Reasons "despite his protestations, has clearly done this before"

sorry if I misunderstood your post, but he says he has been down this road, "many many times" I think he said. So he's not actually protesting anything? Also when he says to Fleabag "it'll pass" - he says that because it's a well trodden path and he knows it will pass.

RuffleCrow · 29/04/2019 06:42

Sorry to be so blunt - i so wanted to like her. I thought Jodie Comer was amazing, actually, and made a completely 'out there' character somehow believable. And there was PWB's brilliant trademark wit to save it too. I just felt the 'male gaze' still lurked on in what was ostensibly a very female-focused series.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 29/04/2019 09:37

Yes- I thought that about KE a bit. I hated the murky ending, too. I think it should have had a clear cut ending and stayed as 1 series, before it gets ludicrous.

I thought Jodie Comer did a great job with Villanelle- you did believe in her somehow - but I actually wanted her to put Eve out of her drab misery and just win, so she could skip off in her ridiculous Violet-Elizabeth Bott party dress, physiologically torture small kids in ice cream parlours, eat cake for ever and run a female assassin agency (which she'd no doubt call cunts for hire). Sandra Oh was great, I just found Eve annoying.

RosaWaiting · 29/04/2019 10:39

this is interesting...I didn't see Eve as "drab misery" at all, though I would like her to get rid of that husband.

ByeClaire · 29/04/2019 12:15

I agree that Jodie Comer was amazing. I wasn’t blown away by Sandra Oh but i do think that’s the character. And I really don’t think the 2 female leads have chemistry. Again, partly down to the character of Eve perhaps. I completely buy that Eve would be obsessed with Villanelle but the other way round? Nah mate.

Much preferred Fleabag to Killing Eve.

RuffleCrow · 29/04/2019 13:10

I could sort of buy into Villenelle looking for a warped sort of sexualised mother figure to replicate her relationship with Anna. And Sandra Oh does have a smoking hot figure.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 29/04/2019 13:37

I think Villanelle gets turned on by the idea of playing with her hunter, who happened to be female. Plus PWB was working with material originally written by a man... so I think there's some gratuitous lesbianism there, or certainly the hyping up of Vilanelles interest in women (I think she fucks who she wants and has a confused attraction to Mother figures) as opposed to a character who is coincidentally a lesbian.

EleanorReally · 29/04/2019 13:45

Yes I loved the Cromer part, so impressive imo

RosaWaiting · 29/04/2019 13:48

I think Vilanelle is just so amused by the idea that someone is determined to stop her, she's decided to see if she can make that person love her instead.

RuffleCrow · 29/04/2019 16:21

Also i was quite pleased to read on wiki that Jodie Comer is from quite an ordinary Liverpudlian background. So many celebs these days seem to be minor aristocrats!

Singasonga · 29/04/2019 18:54

I was quite fond of Bill (the colleague with the wealthy Japanese wife) in Killing Eve and thought his character was being set up to contrast with Eve. She was one of PWB’s rule-following girls, and hence had a stable but boring life and the “right” husband. Villanelle is clearly an agent of pure chaos who stirs Eve up. Bill is a glimpse of what Eve might have been - he appears to be old, boring and stable, but it’s revealed that he actually has a dramatic, professionally & sexually adventurous past and has settled down for love only in middle age.

I was sad that we lost Bill just as he started to become interesting!

ByeClaire · 29/04/2019 20:54

Bill being killed was one of the reasons I went off the series. Loved him, And o love the actor - have dove since 4 Weddings and a Funeral. He was a great sidekick to Eve and she was far less interesting without him.

Loopytiles · 01/05/2019 08:15

Watching series 2 of Fleabag with DH: last night the “kneel” episode! Think it’s even better than series 1. I want Fleabag’s wardrobe (in a larger size) and Claire’s bet workwear and massive office.

Agree with PP that the Priest is a dick, but hot, and his appeal is the challenge. Good chemistry.

Has led to some dark discussions with DH as his family, sadly, has many parallels, and some family occasions we’ve attended over the years could rival the bloody restaurant engagement meal episode for high drama and the funeral for people “overstepping” and having an agenda SadAngry He thinks PWB has got lots of it bang on about grief and dysfunctional families.

RuffleCrow · 01/05/2019 09:02

So true loopy, speaking as one from a messed up family myself.

It somehow manages to transcend class etc in that respect imo.

Fleabag coming to West End for final outing!!!

RosaWaiting · 02/05/2019 16:12

Rosemary did you get a ticket?

if anyone's still trying, apparently the Soho Theatre website is better than the Delfont one.

I don't have a cat's chance in hell as have to go out shortly and I imagine only the pricey ones are left.
