@ShowofHands- you cannot tease us with Olivia insight and not give details! MN demands! Grin

ShowOfHands · 26/04/2019 09:54

Not sure I can/should really. Only because it's not my place to quote her when she was off record iyswim.

Singasonga · 26/04/2019 10:01

Tease. 😜

RosaWaiting · 26/04/2019 10:02

Show of course, totally get that.

Country yes, it must be nice to discover it and then binge watch it. In fact some shows makes more sense that way. I watched Killing Eve like that.

Found Crashing on All4. Not sure what I think of it. Wondering to what extent PWB puts herself into her characters Grin

LucheroTena · 26/04/2019 10:17

I think she should make a series based on the priests life going forward. Where we’ll get to hear about his troubled background and what led up to him going into the vocation. And his perspective into what happened with Fleabag, how he moves forward, etc. It can be called Hot Priest or Kneel.

Countryslices · 26/04/2019 11:14

I'm vaguely recovered and so glad I got the chance to binge it! My only regret was DH getting into half way so I couldn't binge entirely to my schedule! Next up is finishing catastrophe (another underrated piece imo)

RuffleCrow · 26/04/2019 11:20

Oooh, glad this thread's still going: I had a dirty dream about PWB last night and there's literally nowhere else on MN i could put that without fear of judgement Blush

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 26/04/2019 14:32

I am still in awe of the talent in Andrew Scott and PWB.

CountFosco · 26/04/2019 18:14

I think Crashing would be a perfectly acceptable above average sitcom if you hadn't watched the genius of Fleabag. Plus PWB looks so much better with her bob so I spent large chunks of it getting annoyed at Lulu's hair!

RosaWaiting · 26/04/2019 19:53

I don't think of Fleabag as a sitcom....more of a drama in the way S&TC was a drama with funny moments.

that probably makes no sense, sorry.

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 26/04/2019 23:26

I'm watching it again. Ready now Smile

RosaWaiting · 28/04/2019 10:35

Rosemary what does being ready involve?

Finished Crashing. Interesting how it's set up. I thought Kate was probably the sanest of them all.

I loved Melody and Colin. I don't normally care if anyone ends up together, but they should. Aww.

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 28/04/2019 11:22

Haha I was ready to watch again. It took a while to be able to go there because of the hurt of it all ending. I loved it that much!

merrymouse · 28/04/2019 15:08

Have started watching Crashing.

A common thread in all 3 PWB TV seems to be contrasting female characters who obey/don't obey the rules. Both Kate and Claire are set up as opposites to the PWB character, but they aren't unsympathetic.

Is that true in Killing Eve as well? It might just be that in so many narratives the Bechdel test is either failed or barely passed so you don't often see two or more fully rounded characters. Conversely, would Fleabag even pass the reverse Bechdel? That would make it quite unusual.

RosaWaiting · 28/04/2019 17:01

I'm also thinking they're just fully rounded characters, considered properly as part of a cast.

merrymouse · 28/04/2019 19:13

I think it’s true in Killing Eve as well. Villanelle does exactly what she wants, while Eve, although not a Claire or a Kate, starts off as a government employee with a fairly mundane job.

ThanksItHasPockets · 28/04/2019 19:35

Fleabag can’t pass the reverse Bechdel test because the narrative perspective is so limited. We never see or hear anything that Fleabag herself isn’t party to, so by definition there’s always at least one woman (her) in each conversation. It’s very like Jane Austen in that way... Wink

RuffleCrow · 28/04/2019 19:37

I think PWB made the best of a bad job with Killing Eve tbh. Vilanelle was so obviously a male wank fantasy of a female serial killer and Eve was quite two dimensional imo. Not surprising as the book was written by a man. The dialogue was good but she was really "working with the master's tools" from a feminist perspective i feel. Bond will be similar, I suspect - silk purses out of sow's ears and all that.

merrymouse · 28/04/2019 19:50

I think she is script doctoring the Bond film, not writing the script. Carrie Fisher sometimes did this:

RosaWaiting · 28/04/2019 23:45

Ruffle "Vilanelle was so obviously a male wank fantasy of a female serial killer"

oh no!! I luffs her.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 28/04/2019 23:51

I agree actually, Ruffle Crow. DP was hooked on Killing Eve. I initially found it compelling but it dissolved into a muddle. I think PWB did a good job with what she had.

RosaWaiting · 28/04/2019 23:53

I can't watch Bond anyway. My dad told me the newer ones were different...nope.

Haven't even seen Andrew Scott in them and I've been a fan of his forever. Ditto Judi Dench.

ByeClaire · 29/04/2019 00:43

RuffleCrow
THANK YOU. You’ve just perfectly articulated why I didn’t fully rate Killing Eve - I hadn’t really thought about why but that’s exactly it.

I did love the character of V and I adore the performance, but yeah it’s a wank fantasy. And I do think that PWB brought some of that to it as she apparently fleshed out the characters a lot.

I really liked some of Killing Eve bit never got round to watching the last episode.

Reasonstobeearful · 29/04/2019 00:50

I haven't read all of the thread but the priest is obviously a wanker. Anger issues, alcoholic, deflecting shame at his emotions onto other people and, despite his protestations, has clearly done this before.

This is what we're supposed to take from the series, isn't it?
