Does anyone know sign language, by any chance?

I've been wondering what the deaf guy is saying.

Isitmybathtimeyet · 09/04/2019 01:28

I thought it was so beautiful that she told him she loved him, after he had told her he was choosing God. She wanted to say it, not to persuade him otherwise, but because she needed to say it and she trusted him. The FB from series 1 could never have done that.

EnidButton · 09/04/2019 01:30

Although I think the head shake was in reply to everyone crying "go after him!" at the screen.

"The only person I'd run through an airport for, is you." was beautiful.

EnidButton · 09/04/2019 01:33

A person on Twitter who interprets sign language said it was something like "I don't know why I'm here."

howmanyleftfeet · 09/04/2019 01:42

Haha, cross posts BreakfastAtSquiffanys!

Thanks, EnidButton - makes perfect sense and very funny!

BlessedFox · 09/04/2019 01:45

I wonder if FB’s relationship with HP is a metaphor for that relationship you have in your life where you could have had it all — if only....

Mine was with a man old enough to be my grandfather let alone my father and we would have been perfect. If only....

BlessedFox · 09/04/2019 01:46

We never consummated though, I hasten to add.

Bouledeneige · 09/04/2019 01:46

Perfect. And bittersweet - which is always much more moving than them just neatly together in a happy ever after. That would have been too tidy.

I've had a crush on Andrew Scott for a long time - what a brilliant piece of casting. I loved the fact he was the only one who saw her talking to the 4th wall. And all the humour and deftness of touch - the bizarre random 'friends' and the portrait was hilarious.

Loved it much more than the first series. I think its actually just as perfect as you can imagine TV could be - can't think of anything that I've loved more. I shall watch the whole series all over again.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 09/04/2019 01:47

Makes sense, as it seems that Godmother invited people who she could label "interesting" rather than close friends. Possibly Godmother doesn't have any friends...

HunnyCaramel · 09/04/2019 03:01

Ahhh, it was perfect, far more satisfying than a rounded 'happy ending'.

BitOfFun · 09/04/2019 03:27

Why did she walk off in the opposite direction to the bus she was meant to take?

HunnyCaramel · 09/04/2019 03:35

...i dont know, did wonder? Getting a kebab maybe Grin

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 09/04/2019 03:57

oh the bus stop writing - was it the same? I think someone said on Twitter last week that it translates as "hope"?

Rosa someone on reddit says the scrawled Cyrillic graffiti "животе" in the bus stop at the end is Bulgarian, and it means "life".

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 09/04/2019 04:00

Disclaimer: I don't speak Bulgarian Wink
Google translate first gave me Russian for stomach Grin Chocolate Cake
but when I told it it was Bulgarian, it translated it as ''Live''
which is also nice because FB is going to go on to live her life again.
Any Bulgarians on MN?!

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 09/04/2019 04:02

Getting a kebab maybe Ha! Russian for stomach after all! Wink

crumpet · 09/04/2019 04:33

So many details to love about the whole episode. Lots to unpick.

I did particularly enjoy the Godmother’s trophy friends

rosedream · 09/04/2019 06:01

Is there a connection that FB and her dad don't have a name.
Was it to show that FB was like her dad and that there was a stronger connection than we were led to believe between them.

KittyWindbag · 09/04/2019 06:01

I’m bereft. It ended the only way it could, and the way I think I knew it would. I’m heartbroken but in a bittersweet way. I’ll miss her so much! And the hot priest and Claire and Hilary.

bye Claire.

Fazackerley · 09/04/2019 06:13

Bye Claire

RuffleCrow · 09/04/2019 07:13

I can't get over how alone they both are.

Claire is in Finland
Boo and her mum are dead
Her dad doesn't like her
Stemother actively hates her
HD might visit 'some day'

The priest is completely alone, emotionally speaking, except for God.

"Always you told me of being alone, except for the stories about God and you" as Sandy Denny once wrote. Sad

chocolategivesmehives · 09/04/2019 07:23

Loved it in a kind of melancholic way.

FB realises that HP wraps up the things she wants in one package - previously she had Boo for everything except sex - the flashbacks showed what an amazingly close and loving relationship they had. I think Boo wasn’t evident in the final episode because FB realised she could have the same relationship with HP, with great sex too. HP understood her in the same way that Boo did.

The way HP clocks her doing the 4th wall thing also suggested he ‘sees’ her better than anyone else.

ComputerSaysMo · 09/04/2019 07:33

Yes, Ruffle.

I am slightly surprised at how quickly people are jumping into, “She’ll be fine.” I’m just not sure how much character development has actually happened for her in this series, in retrospect. She was already eating healthily, exercising, avoiding meaningless sex and working at making her business successful. She was even mature with her family in spite of their awful behaviour, right up until Claire needed her not to be.

I am guessing the real development for her was seeing Claire leave Martin so they could improve their sisterly relationship, albeit while living in different countries.

To make myself feel better, I have already envisioned 18 months later: the awful stepmum insisting on the family getting together to attend the very chic baptism of her surrogate baby at the HP church (with tea at the house after), leading to all sorts of awkward moments and asides to camera.

Thirtyrock39 · 09/04/2019 07:47

Am I the only person in the world who wanted her to end up with the bank manager/ dad from outnumbered rather than the priest ??
I really didn't like episode 4 (kneel/ Neil) and went right off the priest after that and knew he would let her down - wish they'd not shagged as well and still could have had the end scene saying they loved each other without feeling like he had used her

Romcomjunkie · 09/04/2019 07:47

I don’t think HP should have slept with her if he was always going to choose God. It’s like he got it all out of his system - well good for him, but if I was her I would have felt quite used.

NorthernGravy · 09/04/2019 07:48

I went to bed thinking of her mum. Why would her mother be friends with such a vile woman as the GM/SM? They’d obviously been friends for years, hence being chosen as GM when Fleabag was born and posing for the statue?
