I just watched it. Then rewatched that kiss in the garden (for hotness) and the bus stop/finale (for all the feels). Evokes so much of my young/mad London years for me - the way her face sinks into tears after he leaves, and the bittersweet calm when she gets herself up and walks on through the balmy city night. FWB you utter genius.

HunnyCaramel · 08/04/2019 22:38

Ffs its STILL not on amazon. I've PAID for it, i expect to see it in a timely fashion Angry

CurlsandCurves · 08/04/2019 22:50

Just rewatched.

When they have their big snog against the wall before the wedding, HP says ‘I don’t know what this feeling is’ . She replies ‘Is it God or is it me?’

When they meet at the bus stop once they’ve gone through the pleasantries about the wedding she says ‘It’s God, isn’t it?’

So beautifully sad. He loves her, but knows his love for god is greater.

IdblowJonSnow · 08/04/2019 23:00

Ohh that was heart breaking. Had to have a proper cry for them both.
There won't be any more Fleabag. That's it now. I really was hoping to find out her actual name!

Knackeredmommy · 08/04/2019 23:01

I cried! Brilliant series, brilliant end.

SosigDog · 08/04/2019 23:05

I hated the ending. Loved it all right until the bus stop scene, but I wanted them to end up together. He was the only one who really understood her and I feel like she basically went back to square one, being alone and desperate. I know it might seem “clever” not to go for the obvious happy ending but sometimes trying to avoid it is equally predictable.

Mother87 · 08/04/2019 23:12

Can't believe it's over... the series... her and the priest..that godmother got her wedding... so much feeeels in such a short timeSad

Anyone else thought Fox was a stealth reference to The Little Prince?

"That was how the little prince tamed the fox. And when the time was near:
"Ah!" the fox said. "I shall weep."
"It's your own fault," the little prince said. "I never wanted to do you any harm, but you insisted that I tame you...."
"Yes, of course," the fox said.
"Then you get nothing out of it?"

In pieces here of course.

Also, anyone else looked up the route for 176 - it goes to bloody Penge not to that posh sounding road. I know that bus too Grin

ThanksItHasPockets · 08/04/2019 23:19

Ha - I used to get the 176 very regularly! The emotion of the final scene was very slightly tempered by my thinking ‘of course the 176 hasn’t turned up - it runs from Penge to the Tottenham Court Road...’

Fazackerley · 08/04/2019 23:19

I said "goodbye Fleabag" and now dh thinks I've finally lost it.

Vertigoo · 08/04/2019 23:19

I think good old Catholic guilt got in the way.

HP has a stronger relationship with the Almighty that he’ll ever have with a woman. FB was his final temptation and it wasn’t just about sex but love. He fell in love with FB and the experience served to confirm his calling.

In a weird way HP did actually do his job and healed her by loving her and giving her a meaningful physical experience unlike the meaningless sex habit she got lost in. And hopefully it healed her desperate urge to fuck anyone just to feel wanted.

NorthernGravy · 08/04/2019 23:20

The ending made me feel the same as I did at the end of His Dark Materials. I loved it. I feel bereft without it. I know them being together would have been amazing but I knew that they could never be together. I had to watch it twice, the first time the wedding speech he was choosing her, the second time he was choosing Him.

HoraceCope · 08/04/2019 23:23

I think the enormity of the situation has struck her, time will tell what will occur, but we won't be privy to it

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 08/04/2019 23:31

Heartbreakingly brilliant. His tears when he finally told her "I love you too", her look back at us telling us to stay and not follow her, Clare's reveal that it was her miscarriage, and her brisk statement to FB of "the only person I'd run through an airport for is you". Just beautiful. Yes, the soft romantic in me would have liked HP and FB together, but it's not the right time, they knew it, and so do we. Who knows what the future might bring though (PWB, if you ever come up with what happens in their future please share!)

birdsandroses · 08/04/2019 23:37

In the first half of HP’s wedding speech on love I thought he was talking about Fleabag, but then he says you need to be strong to know who is the right person to love. I thought, as painful as it was, this meant he had worked out that it was right for him to give his love to God. He also said finding love is like finding hope and he ends by saying as it says in the bible strength and love to all those who put hope in their Lord. I think Fleabag by the end of his speech had realised he had chosen God.

birdsandroses · 08/04/2019 23:39

In a weird way HP did actually do his job and healed her by loving her and giving her a meaningful physical experience unlike the meaningless sex habit she got lost in. And hopefully it healed her desperate urge to fuck anyone just to feel wanted.

Yes, he definitely healed her by loving her. This gave her hope.

DishingOutDone · 08/04/2019 23:44

birds what a lovely thing to say. I cried, it was so poignant, it was like someone knew all the losses I've ever had and wrote about them. Really affected me. And then when bugeyed upthread said about the fox being a reference to the Little Prince OMG.

God.

howmanyleftfeet · 09/04/2019 00:14

I really was hoping to find out her actual name!

Her name's Pheobe, I think.

Wasn't Flea a NN for PWB when she was little?
So, Fleabag is Pheobe - probably...

DizzyPhillips · 09/04/2019 00:26

I love Claire. I think I am Claire though. Uptight and lacking in self confidence and self belief.

I felt sorry for Jake. He was good at the bassoon

noblegiraffe · 09/04/2019 00:34

When Olivia Colman sent the girls to find their father and Fleabag comes back with him, OC puts her hand to her heart and says ‘Thank you’.

That’s probably the only genuine positive thing she has said. Everything else positive she says is so fake and manipulative but there she just looks relieved.

VeronicaDinner · 09/04/2019 01:06

It's not a bassoon! It's a cry for help!

BlessedFox · 09/04/2019 01:09

Was the bassoon piece “Where’s Claire” or “Where’s Klare?”

I’d like to think it was the latter and the stepson had a insight into Claire’s predicament but do we know if he knew about Klare? 🤔

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 09/04/2019 01:24

Although I'm sad 5omsee the end of Fleabag, I'm looking forward to watching more from PWB in the future. She's got a great knack for dialogue, things you wished you'd said, lines you will blatantly steal.
(I live in hope that one day someone will ask me where I've been to look so well and I can reply Boots....)

EnidButton · 09/04/2019 01:26

I feel bereft sat in the bus stop forever hoping Hot Priest will be chased back around the corner by the fox, declare it an act of God and propose to Fleabag.

Come baaaack!

I know it's not realistic, I know it's not subtle or clever, but I wanted it so much to be a cliche. Just once.

Still loved it.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 09/04/2019 01:27

Does anyone who understands Sign Language know what the deaf man at wedding signed?
It didn't look like "this woman is a patronising bitch" but i suspect it was along those lines
