Started watching GOT last week & now at penultimate episode of season 3 & I'm truly traumatised! Not sure if I'll be able to continue with it but also don't think I'll be able to stop! Also don't want to google as don't want to see spoilers but feel like I can't stop myself!

Anyone else late to the party like me & in a similar position?

Oh it gets so much worse than theon's torture! but it does most definitely does get so much better!

Duckee · 27/03/2019 15:00

Oh I'm so jealous that you get to watch it as a newbie. I've rewatched GoT about 6 times now and still love it just as much. The shocking parts are still shocking no matter how many times you watch them and there are certain things that happen that I find so sad even though I know they're coming. Don't give up on it because it's sometimes a tough watch. It's well worth sticking with it.

oldowlgirl · 30/03/2019 23:39

I'm up to season 5 episode 6 now & the only scenes disturbing me are the Theon / Reek scenes. I really struggle to watch any scenes they're in (whether together or separately) & find them disturbing.

What I don't understand is how the Bolton's are at Winterfell? I thought Theon burnt it to the ground but it looks completely in tact?

Theon / *Ramsey scenes.

Just fast forward through Theon/Reek. That's what I do. I thought it was unnecessarily graphic and didn't move the story on at all after a certain point.

However, please keep going, the later seasons pack a powerful emotional punch as people's stories are resolved. I cannot wait for S8. For me the characters have kept me going; the CGI battles etc, meh!

I know not everyone shares my view and I do admire the work which has gone into creating what we see on screen.

BlackCatSleeping · 31/03/2019 04:27

They burned the wooden structures in Winterfell but the stone structures were still intact. In the Winterfell scenes you can see and hear them rebuilding in the background.

I hate the Ramsey Bolton scenes too.

oldowlgirl · 31/03/2019 10:36

Thanks for explaining re Winterfell. I will fast forward those scenes then - I was always afraid to in case I missed some crucial plot point but if that's not the case, then I definitely will.

I just find Ramsey so disturbing anytime he's on screen, no matter what he's doing so think I'll forward all of those if I don't need to watch - he's obviously a great actor as I loved him in Our Girl.

I seem to remember series 5 sparked a lot of complaints when it came out. People felt it was too brutal and the Dorne scenes weren’t great. I think season 6 is a lot better.

Brienneoftarthiloveyou · 31/03/2019 19:45

Up to Season 6 & have name changed Smile

Brienneoftarthiloveyou · 04/04/2019 00:23

Just finished it - OMG - thank you all for convincing me to stick with it! Amazing! Want to watch it all again from the start, now that I have more of a clue as to what's going on (& will definitely forward through the Theon torture scenes!).

So are Jon & Daenerys cousins? Aunt & nephew?

Loved Hodor's story & loved Littlefinger getting his comeuppance! The whole thing was brill!

When does the new series start?

BlackCatSleeping · 04/04/2019 07:15

I think Daenerys is Jon's aunt, but there is something odd about Daenerys' childhood in the books as she clearly remembers a red door and a lemon tree. There are no lemon trees in Braavos where she was supposed to have been raised, but there are lemon trees in Dorne. I'm not sure what this all means though.

I loved the idea of Tormund and Brienne as a couple.

youngestisapsycho · 04/04/2019 07:16

In 11 days!!

Balloondog · 04/04/2019 07:36

Where have you been watching it @Brienneoftarthiloveyou? Is the series on Netflix or Amazon Prime?

OneInAMillionYou · 04/04/2019 08:33

It is only on Sky Atlantic and Sky Catch Up. I think maybe Now TV too?

Ive also rewatched ready for S8. It was the premiere in New York last night with the cast reunited. I will be amazed if there are no leaks from that.

Brienneoftarthiloveyou · 04/04/2019 10:17

@Balloondog I've been watching on Sky catch up. All episodes are still on there.

TeaForTheWin · 05/04/2019 11:33

I watch on now tv (it's in in the 'entertainment' section), saves signing up to sky. Think its only like 6 quid or something a month and you can cancel any time. Been using it just for those months of game of thrones every year xD

Think it is only on now tv or sky as it is a sky only production.

Gonna be an awkward moment next season when Jon discovers he's been sleeping with auntie dearist xD

SaskiaRembrandt · 05/04/2019 12:54

The torture of Theon made me wonder if I wanted to carry on watching.

Brienneoftarthiloveyou · 05/04/2019 13:48

That's why is started the thread @SaskiaRembrandt - If id been watching in real time I would have given up then but the lovely people on this thread convinced me to stick with it & I'm so glad i did. Truly amazing show!

TheQueef · 05/04/2019 13:52

Hodor, you needed to see that. Grin I cried

TeaForTheWin · 05/04/2019 14:24

I must be the only one that didn't care about the Hodor stuff much xD I have been rewatching and have skipped everything related to bran and the forest ppl this time round as I just find it a bit 'meh'. Same with the Dorne stuff. I don't think I've been sad about any deaths in game of thrones tbh...well maybe Margery as she was an interesting character...and Tomiln. Poor summer child wasn't meant for this world xD

TheQueef · 05/04/2019 14:35

Tut, Heathen.
💖 Hodor.

Lungelady · 05/04/2019 14:40

I do find Bran very dull.

BlackCatSleeping · 05/04/2019 14:45

I suspect Bran will be a lot more interesting in the next season.

9 days to go!! Grin

RedForShort · 05/04/2019 14:54

The torture of Theon was by far the worse part in all of it for me. I mean there's a lot more blood and horriblenes. But those scenes were so torture intense and intended they turned my stomach.

I watch the rest though OP and nothing else got to me as much. So you could also be ok.

Brienneoftarthiloveyou · 05/04/2019 14:58

I find Bran dull too - not helped by the fact he's grown so much during the seasons when everyone else looks pretty much the same.

I cried at Hodor too & also thought Shireen's death was awful - she loved her dad, so to know he betrayed her by burning her at the stake was so cruel. Agree that all other deaths haven't bothered me too much. I quite like that in fact there isn't one saviour (when at the start I thought it would be Ned, then Robert etc) as to me it's about everyone persevering & fighting for yourself rather than sitting back & waiting fir someone. That said, I love it when D swoops in on her dragon & saves the day Grin
