Anyone else watching... I need to ask something.....?

OP posts:
CaptainMyCaptain · 15/03/2019 19:28

Haha! I think we'd all forgotten about the dissertation by the end. I think she did, it was her way of provoking Leah to start things off.

Scotslasslivinginfrance · 15/03/2019 19:32

Ah see I was wondering if it was the opposite, she wanted Leah to be impressed by her and when she was accused of cheating she turned on her and wanted to punish her as she couldn't cope with another abandonment. They were all from the same family so every chance that Rose could be as intelligent if not more!

ALemonyPea · 15/03/2019 19:44

Sorry, my post didn't make sense. I know that Rose stabbed him with the second knife after Ben told her. I thought the twist might have been Leah doing the second stab I thought that that was where it was leading to.

StripeyChina · 15/03/2019 20:22

Just finished it.

I think Rose's head being messed up by her past - Mother commits suicide (leaving her in Cafe) after real Father dumps mother having promised a 'new life' in France. Real Father ignores Rose.
Rose's dead Mother's husband loathes her and blames her for Mother's suicide whilst shacked up with her Aunt. It's not a happy childhood...

I thought Leah was not credible as a Lecturer (tho some recent ones i've come across at Newcastle Uni leave a lot to be desired).
I also thought her H was a bit too easily reeled in by Rose.
But it was a distraction from the JRM thread i guess Grin

ColdCrumpetsandButter · 16/03/2019 10:05

The clip about "you don't think we got the right one?" I didn't even see in the series only in the promos. Did I miss it?

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 16/03/2019 10:12

It was the end of episode One, I believe, ColdCrumpetsandButter

The female PO and the male were looking at photos of Rose and Leah side by side .

NannyPear · 16/03/2019 14:45

Funnily enough I was thinking about that clip. It was the end of episode 1 indeed, but the rest of the scenes regarding the investigation were focussed more on the female investigator having her suspicions about Rose and wanting to follow them up with her boss not being as concerned. That particular clip didn't really fit.

DarlingNikita · 16/03/2019 15:18

I agree, Nanny. It set up the whole thing as being a question of 'was it Rose or Leah?' and until quite near the end, I thought there might be a revelation that Leah had started the murder and Rose finished it, or vice versa. But the 'which one was it?' thing just became meaningless when it turned out that Rose was just damaged, vindictive and murderous, and had a willing helper in Ben who could commit her crimes for her when she was in prison.

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/03/2019 15:36

The trailers suggested there would be doubt as to who was innocent and who was guilty but there was never any doubt in my mind.

Gwenhwyfar · 17/03/2019 13:05

"I'm enjoying it, far-fetched as it is in some parts (dissertation - pp who said it would be regularly supervised and commented on by a tutor is correct)."

Not necessarily. When I was at uni "dissertation" was also used for a longer than usual essay with the only supervision being having to send in a very basic plan.

Gwenhwyfar · 17/03/2019 13:20

"I think Rose's head being messed up by her past - Mother commits suicide (leaving her in Cafe) after real Father dumps mother having promised a 'new life' in France. Real Father ignores Rose.
Rose's dead Mother's husband loathes her and blames her for Mother's suicide whilst shacked up with her Aunt. It's not a happy childhood..."

Yep and there was also the 'is it nature or nurture' question. I think the stepdad said Rose had been a monster since birth (of course you can argue that's because he saw her as a result of adultery). Did Rose's mum kill herself partly because she knew from an early age that Rose was a monster so when her lover jilted her there was nothing left for her. Or there were attachment issues between mother and daughter.

Bottomplasters · 18/03/2019 07:50

Loved it! Where was emerald bay cafe? It looked really nice!

CaptainMyCaptain · 18/03/2019 08:37

I did a search and it looks like Worthing.

Bottomplasters · 18/03/2019 11:16

Bit far though to meet!

mydogisthebest · 18/03/2019 14:11

I quite enjoyed it although I agree it was pretty far fetched.

I hated Rose. I would so liked Adam to let her go when she was leaning out on the roof stupid girl.

Oh and a poster asked how Rose would have got Adam's pin code for his phone. Well I don't lock my phone, neither does DH

CaptainMyCaptain · 18/03/2019 14:26

Bottomplasters Although the university looked like Cambridge I think it was meant to be fictitious so could have been on the coast. You have to suspend disbelief quite a lot with this drama.

SpanishFly · 18/03/2019 15:35

I binge watched this morning. Not sure why I watched beyond episode 1. Acting was appalling and I had no sympathy for any of them 🤦‍♀️

merdde · 18/03/2019 15:42

The acting was perfectly fine Hmm The script was a bit shite however

theliverpoolone · 18/03/2019 16:14

The acting of the two female leads was spot on. The guy playing Adam was a bit wooden though - he played a very unlikeable character, very badly, IMO.

SpanishFly · 18/03/2019 16:42

Yes maybe the script didn't help. But the acting really wasn't good 🙄

BringMeTea · 19/03/2019 15:21

I enjoyed it. Thought both female leads were very good. Eyebrows did not register, i.e. normal and perfectly nice. My biggest gripe is that we are supposed to believe Ben's devotion to the point of murder. I mean seeing Rose in her undercrackers must have been nice for him but still... Also, wouldn't he have been done for his part in the murder cover up?

DarlingNikita · 19/03/2019 15:28

I have a theory and a backstory about Ben I don't have a life
I think he has a dubious past and also a higher intellect than maybe his job as a porter requires. The past means a) he can't do a more demanding job as he needs to stay under the radar and b) he is adept at tracking people, advising on how to cover up murder scenes, killing dogs etc.
The intellect means he is frustrated, resentful and bored in his porter job. Any diversion is welcome, and one in the form of an attractive female student who flatters him is the most welcome sort of all.

And yes, I think it was a plot hole that he didn't seem to have been punished for his part in the murder cover-up. Or maybe, as it was a couple of years later, he was fined/got community service or a suspended sentence?

BringMeTea · 19/03/2019 17:39

I salute your investment DarlingNikita Grin

DarlingNikita · 19/03/2019 17:48

Thanks! Grin
