Am finding it very well written and a departure from other things he's done. Have laughed out loud a few times. Very clever way of writing something moving without being cloying.
Anyone else watching?

GoldenFlaps · 11/03/2019 09:35

BoF Flowers

Lenny looks like what Tom Hardy would look like if he let himself go Grin

The80sweregreat · 11/03/2019 17:41

Golden, which one was Lenny?
The drug dealer?

cheesenpickles · 11/03/2019 17:52

Really enjoyed this and having suffered losses lately it really hit the right note.

The advertising exec with her feature ideas is SOOOO true to life as well Grin

cheesenpickles · 11/03/2019 17:53

Side-note for anybody unsure, I usually HATE Ricky Gervais.

The80sweregreat · 11/03/2019 18:09

I liked Roxy ( I'm a sex worker ) !
She was funny.

Me too! But I’ve laughed out loud at this.

He reminds me of DH (apart from the sadness emotion, DH is never sad). It’s hilarious as we both keep seeing the likeness

MadisonAvenue · 11/03/2019 23:30

The80s Lenny was the photographer at the newspaper.

mooncuplanding · 11/03/2019 23:49

I too found this such a delight to watch. Made me feel all possible emotions every episode- fantastic TV

I've read some terrible reviews for it from the Guardian and the New Statesmen (and I think the NY Times) but almost every viewer comment I've seen has been positive so shows just how pathetic 'certain sections' of the press are

My favourite scene which I think I will laugh about forever:
"What's your name?"
'Pat"

@bitoffun So sorry to hear about your illness. I've been here for fucking years and you always bring a bit of fun to proceedings. Please god, be well

cheesenpickles · 12/03/2019 07:52

@mooncuplanding I think a lot of the reviews are quite scathing because of the representation of journalists in it. Although there are definitely local free sheets like that but the amount of staffing was extremely skewed. It was still however surprisingly accurate in parts.

And yeah, a lot of journalists are that grumpy in real life too. Grin

The80sweregreat · 12/03/2019 08:27

The Guardian are probably not keen on it as Phoebe Waller Bridge isn't involved in its making somewhere.

DinaCaliente · 12/03/2019 09:23

I loved it, I think it dealt with the reality of grief very well.
I was still upset hours after finishing it.

Costacoffeeplease · 12/03/2019 09:41

I watched it yesterday and must have a bit missing as I didn’t find it emotional, or that funny but a bit obvious and heavy handed, this is the funny bit, this is the sad bit, this is the message behind it all. Meh

CaptainHammer · 12/03/2019 10:01

I thought it was brilliant.

rage me too with the wallpaper part and the “you’re my boy” line 😭

WhiteDust · 12/03/2019 14:23

You have a heart of STONE!

lagerthaslovelyhair · 12/03/2019 14:26

I didn't like it as much as I thought I would.

NameChangeNugget · 12/03/2019 14:27

I thought it was utterly brilliant and so funny

The scenes with Penelope Wilton were beautiful.

lagerthaslovelyhair · 12/03/2019 14:30

Bitoffun I'm so sorry about your illness. =p

HoundOfTheBasketballs · 12/03/2019 14:33

The external shots outside the newspaper office are filmed in Hemel Hempstead old town.
I grew up there, so that was a lovely surprise to see RG outside some of my old haunts!

EntirelyAnonymised · 12/03/2019 14:41

BOF, i’m another longstanding oldie name changer. We’ve chatted many times over the years, we have DDs of a similar age. I’m gutted to hear of your illness and like the others, wish you well and send you Wine Gin & Flowers. All the best to you and yours.

TeaforTwoBiscuitOrThree · 12/03/2019 14:44

Binge watched it. I liked it a lot. Laughed out loud, wipe away a little tear every now and then. Stuck with me whole weekend.

Costacoffeeplease · 12/03/2019 14:57

WhiteDust

Probably

user122397743 · 12/03/2019 15:09

Absolutely loving the mix of pathos and dark humour. Also that he's brought most of the cast of 'Derek' along for the ride!

The80sweregreat · 12/03/2019 15:26

Penelope Wilson was good : nice to see her in things on tv. Those chats on the bench were lovely.

Considering what happened to Ashley , this must have been hard for her to film and appear in.

CaptainHammer · 12/03/2019 15:36

Penelope Wilton never seems to age, I’m sure she looked exactly the same in Shaun of the Dead!

the80sweregreat oh god I’d forgotten about Ashley’s husband. It must have been really hard.
