Am finding it very well written and a departure from other things he's done. Have laughed out loud a few times. Very clever way of writing something moving without being cloying.
Anyone else watching?

Started watching it tonight. Loved it and I’m not much of a RG fan. Def ugly cried at a few of the scenes, especially when the gorgeous dog lay down on the grave

MadisonAvenue · 09/03/2019 22:47

We've binge watched them this evening. Loved it so much and it's rare that I sit totally engrossed in the TV without having half an eye on the internet or my crochet.

AnyFucker · 09/03/2019 22:52

DustyMaiden · 09/03/2019 23:27

Excellent, surprisingly so after watching the film David Brent which was dire.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 10/03/2019 00:31

I ugly cried at his Dad talking about doing the wallpaper.
This was beautifully written and acted.

Thank you for recommending it, I watched the entire series last night. I thought it was very beautiful actually, sensitive and funny and sad and truthful.

Funnily enough, in direct opposition to a previous poster, I am a fan of Gervais' stand up but not usually his tv programmes.

covetingthepreciousthings · 10/03/2019 07:12

Watched 3 episodes back to back last night.
It was different than I expected, in a good way. Thought it's been very well written.

Had a tear in my eye when he was in his wife's arms.

Will probably watch the rest of it tonight.

BitOfFun · 10/03/2019 07:25

Just binged the entire series. As a 45 year old with Stage 4 breast cancer, it was a hard but great watch. Even though I had to listen to my DP chipping in with how he'd be exactly the same

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 10/03/2019 09:49

Oh bit How are you holding up? I'm sorry Daffodil I didn't know you were ill (you don't know me, I'm a prolific name changer but have been here since 2008 and I recognize your name lovely Crown Wink).
That must have been a tough watch for you, bless your DH and his interruptions Smile I also binged it - I need to stop bingewatching things.
Working Moms on Netflix was also very, very good, similar to the Letdown. The first few episodes were very funny if you need a lift.
Take care and wishing you as pleasant a Sunday as possible - it is raining like mad where I am so duvet day all round methinks Xx

BOF : I remember you on the X factor threads with Raahh and the others over the years.
Watching this must have been so hard ; I am sorry. Sending a hug. 💐
Take care

Silversky70 · 10/03/2019 10:41

This is the best thing I've watched for a while, although Fleabag is amazing too. I laughed out loud and ugly cried at the same time: "gay". Wonderful.

BitOfFun · 10/03/2019 11:49

Ahh, thanks gals- it's lovely to know you're wishing me well x

TanteRose · 10/03/2019 12:05

BoF Flowers

Absolutely loved this series- had me blubbing and bellylaughing in equal measures Smile
Tremendous acting by a stellar cast

sackrifice · 10/03/2019 12:10

i like the actress that plays his wife in this, she was in Derek and Bad Move with Jack Dee and is very good

Kerri Godliman. Who also won the last series of Taskmaster.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 10/03/2019 12:24

Made me cry and laugh st the same time.
I really enjoyed it !

The80sweregreat · 10/03/2019 12:24

I am crying at the episode. Be kind is such a true sentiment, but it's not always easy of course.

My dad is in a care home and also says some ( lots) of weird things as well. I found that bit hard.
Life is tough going!

thenightsky · 10/03/2019 17:05

Just discovered this today... on episode 4 already! Love it.

SavageBeauty73 · 10/03/2019 17:24

@BitOfFun sending 💐 and 🍾🍾🍾🍾

ccmrob12 · 10/03/2019 18:03

I like all his stuff, including standup, but I love how he can write serious stuff intertwined with comedy, he has a real knack for that. Darek was especially tear jerking at times.

Brilliant series.

ooooohbetty · 10/03/2019 18:07

liked it. Made me laugh and cry. But the gratuitous swearing and overuse of the c word got on my nerves. Ricky Gervais is clever, he must know more words to express himself.

ccmrob12 · 10/03/2019 18:35

He uses it is a term of endearment....honest!

AnyFucker · 10/03/2019 19:23

I will watch this when I get time hopefully this year

Squeezes to you BOF

GrumpySausage · 10/03/2019 23:00

Just finished watching this and really enjoyed it. Not usually a fan of Ricky Gervais but this has inspired me to watch some of his other stuff.

The series had some really poignant moments but quite a few laugh out loud moments too. Not many programmes that make me do that nowadays.

ccmrob12 · 10/03/2019 23:31

@GrumpySausage if you liked it try Darek. Has a similar warm fuzzy feeling about it.
