Just watched every episode back to back. Crying and laughing at the same time. Loved it.

DH and I watched the series back to back last night. Absolutely brilliant, scripted so well and as pp said acted well too.

I wonder where he got such real material. Resonated with us on a real level.

@BitofFun Flowers

@drinkswine I thought it had some German Shepherd in there??

TinselAndKnickers · 12/03/2019 14:02

I've just binged it all - not laugh out loud funny but I loved it. The last episode was so great Grin

RitaFairclough · 15/03/2019 09:28

We binged it too. I thought it started stronger than it ended and I agree with whoever said the last episode was just dishing out advice. No one speaks like that. It actually reminded me of a David Walliams book - the way he made things right at the end.

I thought giving Julian the money for the OD was pretty unforgiveable actually. And as a former journo on a local paper, I can assure you none of that is remotely realistic (mostly the fact that they actually have a local paper!).

But it was sweet and funny and I loved the cast, and the dog. And the setting - where was it filmed? It looks gorgeous.

Didn't Ashley Jenson's husband take his own life? I wondered how much of the subject matter had been inspired by her experiences.

blighter · 15/03/2019 10:16

As if anyone would think that the office format in the show was a true representation of reality in the office of a local paper 😐 chill out

foxyknoxy30 · 17/03/2019 19:04

Absolutely loved this so heartbreaking and funny at the same time

ladybird69 · 17/03/2019 19:22

I haven’t got Netflix is there anyway I can watch it on something else? Tia

Samind · 17/03/2019 19:29

Binge watched it. brilliant!

FranKatzenjammer · 17/03/2019 19:34

I enjoyed it overall, but it was very bleak indeed. Three of the six episodes ended with one or more characters taking heroin Sad.

BackInAtLast · 17/03/2019 20:03

Watched it all in one go last night...brilliant! Am not really a RG fan at all, but honestly amazing script, excellent casting, and just every emotion. Loved it.

dontdoxmeeither · 17/03/2019 20:18

Loved it too, especially the stain that looked like Kenneth Branagh 😂😂

The characters were excellent. He's a very clever writer

drinkswineoutofamug · 17/03/2019 20:20

Rice pudding made from breast milk. I was gagging too 🤢 and bread made from vaginal yeast 😂

PrincessScarlett · 17/03/2019 23:26

Just watched the first three episodes. This is RG at his best. So raw, so funny and so real. The bit on the beach was so moving. Can't wait to watch the rest.

supermodel · 17/03/2019 23:30

I thought it was best thing I've seen for a long while. Also wondered where it was filmed.

@RitaFairclough I wondered whether he wrote this for her iykwim.
Really resonated with me. I lost my dad when I was 15 and acted in exactly the same way; was actually quite liberating and ultimately very good for me.
The heroine overdose, I agree, was distressing. He was given a choice, however, by being given the money, not advised or counselled to do anything. It was ultimately his decision.
This and Fleabag my favourite dark comedies

Springisallaround · 18/03/2019 14:14

Ashley made a mighty glamorous carer with her highlights and American teeth.

Also found the OD the most disconcerting aspect of it all. Pity he didn't get to the bit about valuing life, everyone's life, and give his homilies to the heroin addict guy instead of a wad of cash to kill himself (indirectly).

Otherwise, really enjoyed this a lot in a crying/laughing kind of a way.

notacooldad · 02/04/2019 11:13

I binged watched yesterday afternoon after being recommend it by DS1.
I enjoyed it even though the last episode was predictable.
The least realistic character to me was the therapist. There again Ive never had therapy so I dont know if he was particularly odd!!!
