I suspect J*b is a bit like Lord Voldemort - he turns up if you use his name. So from now on, I propose he is referred to as "You know Who", just in case.

Acis · 22/04/2019 09:09

The scriptwriters have been watching too many US law programmes. The lawyer's sidekick would have been either a pupil or a trainee, not an intern.

WhenZogateSuperworm · 22/04/2019 15:10

What’s wrong with Jacob? I actually don’t mind him too much! Especially compared to the 2 new doctors who I can’t stand.

Bring back Lara, and Zoe! And I loved Ethan and Cal too.

grumpyyetgorgeous · 22/04/2019 15:36

*Finally caught up - Charlie was so wrong to do that to DAVID

He must be retirement age by now*

Charlie had a retirement storyline YEARS ago where they were persuading him to gradually reduce his hours. He was bored, casualty was busy and short staffed one evening so they rang him to come in and...... retirement was never mentioned again!
They might have been better to retire Duffy and Charlie when they got married they'd have stood a chance at being happy then.

WhenZogate I don't mind Jacob either really

GertrudeCB · 22/04/2019 18:33

He can’t act. He delivers his lines like a Klingon speaking English phonetically, but with no actual understanding of what they mean.
I've just laughed so loudly st this that I frightened the dog Grin

Isitmybathtimeyet · 22/04/2019 18:49

If not being able to act was a disqualifying factor, the patients would mostly be treating themselves by now.

RedForShort · 22/04/2019 23:20

Thanks for the comprehensive summary Optimist1. Good as watching it (possibly more exciting!!)

Yes I agree quite sad to see him go. Wasn't expecting it either, makes it worse really

Just caught up with this thread and then this popped up on fb Grin

For most people, a decision to take a year's sabbatical involves a lot of thought, planning and discussion. You need to talk to your employers, think about how you are going to finance it, think about whether it will affect your career, consider giving notice on where you live, talk to your family, check out whether you need vaccinations, give notice, pack, etc etc. But if you work in Casualty you just look wistfully at a couple of brochures first thing in the morning and by the end of the day you're all set and ready to go. You only mention it in passing to your supervisor because he actually takes the trouble to come and talk to you about plans for next year.

But then, I suppose they're not too bothered about people giving notice because they don't bother with normal recruitment practices either. You can bet someone will turn up next week who just happened to be at a loose end and a brilliant A&E doctor, so Connie will take him/her on without advertising, interviews, or references.

Fromage · 26/04/2019 17:32

Is it me, or does Holby A&E seem to employ a lot of staff after they bring in a patient, probably involved in some sort of traffic accident?

Next week, we see a couple have a fight over what to do with Doris's remains (in a decorative urn) when one of them will storm out and get run over by a passing motorist, who will frantically call someone. They turn up - they're the driver's ex, a brilliant A&E doc, and they bring everyone back to Casualty where we discover the following:

the person who got run over feels secretly (but wrongly) responsible for Doris's death

the driver/ex of the doctor is still in love with the dr but has married their best friend - there will also be a pregnancy involved

the partner of the person run over will be diagnosed by Dylan of a rare disease

Doris was a fish

lol at Jacob You-Know-Who and his delivery of lines. Maybe he doesn't speak a word of English at all. I just find him incredibly full of himself. He might be a total love in real life but that character is an arsehole.

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 26/04/2019 20:27

Out of that story the only character I'd like to see recurring is Doris.

We need more dead fish in Casualty. They're more interesting, and often better actors, than the current lot!

VioletCharlotte · 27/04/2019 21:19

Really enjoyed tonight's episode. The best one for a long while.

SoupDragon · 27/04/2019 21:22

I thought it was dull and contrived.

purpleme12 · 27/04/2019 21:45

No definitely not dull, really good, tense

SoupDragon · 27/04/2019 21:51

Clearly not "definitely" not dull given I thought it was 😂

Personal taste. I thought the 999 calls were ridiculous - so much so that I thought they were staged by the therapist to prove something to Ian. Actually, I want entirely convinced the therapist wasn't a figment of his imagination at one point 😂

Children abused by a parent, just like Ian. Suicidal police officer feeling responsible for a colleagues injury, just like Ian... not sure where the surprise twins fit in 🤔

No, not an episode for me this week unfortunately.

Defenbaker · 27/04/2019 21:58

The nature of the 999 calls did seem overly coincidental, but despite that, I really enjoyed tonight's episode and thought the actor who played Ian acted everybody else off the screen. I found it quite moving.

PaddingtonBearHardStare · 27/04/2019 22:10

@SoupDragon he has twins in real life, maybe the writers got confused Grin

maxbabi · 27/04/2019 22:17

Thought it was really good tonight.
So many people have very dark thoughts and contemplate suicide. Well done to casualty for raising this issue.

MrsBosh · 27/04/2019 22:20

I enjoyed it. Pretty ridiculous in parts like when Gem brought out the random child. Love the idea it was his imagination though Shock The acting from Iain was fab!

thaegumathteth · 27/04/2019 22:51

It was casualty so obviously it wasn’t entirely beievsble - particularly the first responder losing his leg. Also loved how he immediately took his helmet off after the crash - surely he’d know that wasn’t a fab idea?
