Anyone watching new series? Not sure the new vicar can replace James Norton!

They played Race with the Devil, by Gene Vincent.

I led an evil life,
Or so they say,
I’ll hide from the Devil on Judgement Day.

I agree with pp. I think this new vicar is good, less self absorbed than Sidney, and carving out a good role.
Mrs M thinks Leonard will go to hell, and probably should be in prison, so it's natural that she should leave. The shop manager rang true, that was a typical response, probably even kinder than many women would get.
What upset me was the thought of that vulnerable boy going to a remand home and how awful it would have been for him.

diddl · 02/02/2019 15:36

If the boy didn't nothing wrong though-where was he being sent to at the end?

Clionba · 02/02/2019 16:09

He wasn't sent anywhere. If William hadn't worked out it was Grandma, the poor vulnerable lad would have gone to a remand centre. That's the tragedy of those days. Fortunately he didn't, and at the end his father got him a proper signing book. Happy ending.

diddl · 02/02/2019 16:19

Ah good! Somehow the father giving the book made me think he was being sent awayBlush

Still not keen on the new vicar-he's a bit bland to me.

Isn't Mrs C's husband well off-so would she have carried on cleaning anyway?

Bumblebee39 · 02/02/2019 16:34

Glad I watched happy valley after grantchester tbh

Don't think I could have dealt with it the other way round Shock

AlmaCogansFrockFan · 02/02/2019 17:49

I can understand that Bunblebee39, I saw Happy Valley episode 1 first, couldn't face what was likely to be coming, but watched the last episode to see how it ended. Dived straight into Grantchester and loved it, nice to see JN as a better person. I would also say he had his Mr Darcy from the lake moment in War & Peace; in lavish evening dress he approached the Rostovs in the ballroom to ask their permission to dance the waltz with Natasha, and as they took their place on the ballroom floor the camera panned to his immaculately whitegloved hand as it firmly grasped her back to lead her in the dance.

I think she saw it as serving the church.

Also took me a good few episodes of Grantchester to wipe the horrendous Tommy Lee Royce out of my mind every time I saw Sidney.

@AlmaCogansFrockFan
Oh yes I loved war and peace he was great in that

ChoccyJules · 09/02/2019 22:45

Just watched last night‘s episode and really enjoyed it, more backstory for Will and a chance to play ‚spot the grand house‘!

Clawdy · 10/02/2019 20:11

Am getting to really like the new vicar now. Didn't think I would, but he's won me over!

So it's ended. Very unlikely story, and that teacher was so obviously a wrong 'un from the moment he first spoke! But the main characters are all pretty interesting and well-acted.
