Just found it on Netflix and heard lots of people say they watch it.

Any good?

Gosh was the news of the King’s death really broken on the news before the Queen was told? Shock

I'm a Line Them Up Against the Palace Walls type and I bloody loved it.
I surprised myself by how much I did enjoy it and I'm only about halfway through season 1.
I have found the historical aspects fascinating, particularly the Great Smog episode. Very well acted and the frocks are to die for.

I've been taken aback and by the burgeoning and grudging respect I have felt for young, newly acceded Elizabeth. She was essentially uneducated, sheltered and living in a patriarchal system far more restrictive than today yet she looks like she was able to transcend these obstacles and hold her own with some rather intimidating moustachioed types with lots of metal pinned to their shoulders and mouths filled with plums.
This whole divine right to rule, walk backwards in my presence whilst tugging one's forelock is still a load of bollocks but I have been able to separate the woman from the Queen thanks to this series and for that I am grateful. It's always a jolly good thing to recognise one's prejudices and overcome them, yes?
Won't be rushing out to buy a mug with her face on though any time soon.

I spent a lot of time googling while watching it....in a ‘bloody hell that can’t actually have happened!’ Kind of way. It almost always had....

ash1989 · 09/01/2019 09:58

What a show. Brilliant performances across the board. Historically accurate (so I'm told) too, which helps for someone like me who knows very little about the monarchy. Watch it.

Roomba · 09/01/2019 15:12

I loved it and I'm not a massive fan of the royal family. My mum watched the first episode at mine (she doesn't have Netflix), demanded I bought both series on DVD for her Xmas present, then binge watched it all over new year with my auntie.

Threeminis · 09/01/2019 16:33

I was the same @PeridotCricket
Probably could have watched it in half the time if I hadn't googled everything

RedTartanLass · 09/01/2019 17:33

@PeridotCricket @Threeminis
Same as me!! Googled all through it! The timelines were sometimes a wee bit out but appeared almonds historically accurate!

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 09/01/2019 18:38

Bloody brilliant.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 09/01/2019 18:42

I'm a republican and resisted watching for a good while but was laid up with illness and it hooked me almost immediately, very much looking forward to the next series.

IdblowJonSnow · 09/01/2019 19:29

It's a brilliant series. Beautiful, with substance and great acting. The queen is portrayed very sympathetically. If accurate then she must have been very lonely at times. Matt Smith is brilliant, very charming! Does anyone know when series 3 is out?

Lightsdown · 09/01/2019 21:20

Was fab - it is impossible not to Google around it - i found the just history fascinating ( I'm not English).

HoraceCope · 09/01/2019 21:22

oh yes, historically very interesting

ReggieKrayDoYouKnowMyName · 09/01/2019 21:22

Yes it’s brilliant.

PorpentinaScamander · 09/01/2019 21:25

I'm on episode 8 (or maybe 9). Absolutely loving it!

southeastdweller · 09/01/2019 23:19

Absolutely yes. It's worth the Netflix subscription just to watch it never mind anything else on there.

I'm going to rewatch it all before the new series starts towards the end of this year.

EnidButton · 10/01/2019 02:06

Yes but I found I had to get past the fog episode to really get into it. Princess Margaret is my favourite in it. There's a bit with her that made me cry it was so beautiful. All the cast are very very good.

Really looking forward to the next series. Hope we don't have too long to wait

SymphonyofShadows · 10/01/2019 07:24

I loved it despite not being a royalist. Coleman and HBC really do have a hard act to follow

Rebootandtry · 10/01/2019 10:08

The crown is really good. I do spend a lot of time googling if this happened lol when watching.

I do wonder how the new cast will do as like you mentioned above it is big shoes to fill.

I also loved Vanessa Kirby as Princess Anne. I thought the casting was spot on looks wise.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 10/01/2019 12:22

Yes to the googling! I do this with a lot of shows. Then I end up having to rewind Blush

Just about to put little one down for a nap and might get to watch eps 3 and 4 if I’m lucky.

Churchill isn’t coming across very well.

Series 1 complete Blush

SuperSuperSuper · 11/01/2019 22:29

It's amazing. One of the best things I've seen recently. Netflix is a bloody bargain.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 12/01/2019 20:11

Not enjoying series two as much. Confused

BestIsWest · 12/01/2019 20:37

Loved it and not a royalist. Series two was a bit slower
