Phew just found this thread, I bloody love this show even though I know absolutely nothing about sewing, despite my late dm who was extremely talented seamstress efforts to try & teach me.
Love love Joe & Juliette lives about ten minutes from me
Loved the wiggle dresses & definitely some of those jumpe suits were bum hungry & chichy inducing

Boulezvous · 13/02/2019 12:32

I loved the show. Been waiting for ages for it to return so was really pleased when I happened across it yesterday. I thought Joe L was great and not a compromise in any way (and I'm usually quite a Claudia fan so that's saying something).

I love the judges - what's not to love about Patrick and Esme? Patrick is a work of art himself. And it makes a welcome change to have real experts as judges on a TV show (unlike Cheryl Cole on the greatest dancer). And let's face it we don't often see brilliant older women like Esme on our screens. I love hearing their technical insights and critiques of the finished items.

I thought the wiggle dress was a pretty tough challenge for the first week and was surprised by the fabrics people chose which made it even harder. Juliet was brilliant though it was interesting that she wasn't so creative in the denim up cycle challenge. I loved the winning denim dress. Was it Mercedes who made the weird front pocket denim dress - the idea sounded good till she inserted the short panels. I was pleased too that Alexei who didn't rate himself creatively came second on the denim challenge. Juliet's final dress was stunning!

Ah it's so nice to have the Bee back!

SoupDragon · 13/02/2019 13:20

I wasworried about Joe being the host but he was really good. He didn't look like a replacement at all if that makes sense.

5foot5 · 13/02/2019 13:21

Ah so happy!

Joe seems to be just the right personality for this show.

MinesaPinot · 13/02/2019 13:28

I'm so glad this is back - I absolutely love it!

And I think Joe was great.

Even better, Mr Pinot starting snoozing on the sofa as soon as it started, so I had a whole lovely indulgent hour in peace and quiet Smile

FawnDrench · 13/02/2019 15:47

Well - what a lovely lovely programme - the first time I've ever seen it, and I only watched because of all the positive comments on here.

Simply fabulous- so so reminiscent in style and quality of how GBBO used to be with all the support and "gentleness".

Really looking forward to next week.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 13/02/2019 15:48

I really like this year's lot. They all seem quite good.

SileneOliveira · 13/02/2019 18:13

Just caught up today on iPlayer. Loved Joe. He did an amazing job and struck the perfect balance of supportive and funny. Patrick and Esme fantastic too.

I sew - a bit - and have done dressmaking in the past. It's not easy. A dress in under 4 hours with hidden zips and pattern matching and frou frou sleeves is TOUGH. Would take me about 4 weeks and then it wouldn't fit properly. Proper skill among that lot. Agree that I would have gone for a plain cotton. Bubblegum pink or mint green.

Love the repurposing thing too - fast fashion is something Patrick tweets about a lot and I think anything which makes people think about reusing old clothes and giving them another lease of life is a good thing. I volunteer in a charity shop and we have a regular customer who buys up old jeans and turns them into amazing bags and purses. Very clever and very usable too.

Loved Juliet's jumpsuit, very professional. Think the right person went home. Juliet, Jen and Ben in the final.

SileneOliveira · 13/02/2019 18:19

In fact, it would take me 4 hours just to choose the fabric.

FuzzyPuffling · 13/02/2019 18:19

boulezvous I agree completely on your assessment of the judges. Proper experts with a very engaging way of getting that knowledge across.

Fontella · 13/02/2019 18:20

The Sewing Bee.

Easy, lovely, nice, friendly, laid back telly. For those of you who can sew, I'm guessing it is a must view. You understand the problems, the technicalities, the darts, the mishaps, the mistakes ... and probably watch it in a completely different way from the rest of us.

Smile

For those of us who can't sew, it's like watching masters of their art at work. It's like watching Michelangelo painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. We are in awe. We are not worthy.

And these are just ordinary people, mums, dads, sons, brothers, sisters of all ages and backgrounds who love to sew, and are really, really good at it (otherwise they wouldn't have got on the show in the first place).

And the judges are nice and the presenter is nice, and they help each other, and they have a laugh, and we might miss Claudia but there wasn't any great fall out or money changing channels involved, (she apparently wasn't available for filming) and the new presenter is just fine.

It's all still lovely, perfect, mid-week, put your feet up, no stress, no strain telly.

I don't go for all the liking or disliking this contestant stuff. I think they are all incredibly brave to put themselves forward in the first place and I wish every one of them the best of luck. But I do have a favourite and it's Jen. Dunno why .. but on the first episode she's the one I found myself silently rooting for.

So if I get a bit partisan on this thread as the weeks go by, forgive me in advance!

FuzzyPuffling · 13/02/2019 20:12

Lovely post fontella. I completely agree that they are all so brave for doing it...I'd love to be at that standard and level of confidence. But it does inspire me to have a go (again, I used to do a load of dressmaking, but not for years). I WILL make something soon!

MiceSqueakCatsMeow · 13/02/2019 20:22

I was worried that I wouldn't like Joe as much as Claudia, but I did. It was so good to have Sewing Bee back because I love sewing. I really enjoy the whole programme. Mainly the people on it are so talented. I loved Chinelo. She is so good at design. I don't know what season she was.

dontcallmelen · 13/02/2019 21:01

Yy fontella it’s like having a nice cuppa & a cuddle & a joy to see such lovely talented people.

IStillMissBlockbuster · 13/02/2019 21:53

Yay, I really enjoyed sewing bee 🐝 being back. Lovely telly.

TokyoSushi · 13/02/2019 21:57

Late to the party, just watching on catch up - absolutely loved it!

Huntlybyelection · 13/02/2019 23:56

I hadn't realised how much I had missed it until it started. I loved it. They are all my favourites. Joe Lycet t was a very good addition to the magnificent pair that is Patrick and Esme.

My happy programme

SchadenfreudePersonified · 14/02/2019 09:53

Monkseal has spoken!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 14/02/2019 10:08

Thanks for the link Schaden - I enjoyed that read!

MinesaPinot · 14/02/2019 13:59

Did anyone else do 'On your marks, get set, sew' in a Noel Fielding-type voice?

Just me then.....

northernstars · 14/02/2019 14:07

Bugger - forgot this was on and can't use iplayer as am in forrin. Shame as it sounded great.

ElspethFlashman · 14/02/2019 15:13

Well if Monkseal is in, I'm in!

I liked Joe, he seems sweet and relaxed.

It's so bizarre watching them all in their summer gear (with fans!) when I'm sitting there watching in a grubby fleece in front of a fire. But they all looked terrific I have to say!

Isn't it interesting how many of them have engineering /architect/very systematic careers?
