Surprised there's no thread on this. Did anyone watch it last night or has the series reached its natural end and is no longer attracting viewers?

In the sixties working class women all had a shampoo and set every Friday or Saturday.
They also put rollers in and went to bed and older women had perms

My mum & nana didn't. I'm not sure my mum's ever had a shampoo and set. Smile

It was the cost of hot water that was often the issue, which is why most of us could only have a bath and hair wash once a week.

ppeatfruit · 27/01/2019 12:21

And those huge geysers we had in the bathrooms! Ran out of hot water quickly !

Clionba · 27/01/2019 20:10

Phyllis is even looking at teal wool at Violet's!
Teal does seem to be a popular colour in this series!

Clawdy · 27/01/2019 20:10

" Farst things farst! " Even for Trixie, that sounded ridiculous!

Clionba · 27/01/2019 20:11

Don't get me started on Trixie's voice Confused

LIZS · 27/01/2019 20:14

Cleft lip baby Sad

Clionba · 27/01/2019 20:26

I like Valerie. She's a good character and very plausible.

Doobydoobydooyeh · 27/01/2019 20:43

Where is the dad of cleft lip baby?

OddBoots · 27/01/2019 20:46

On a boat in Newfoundland I think they said.

WeaselsRising · 27/01/2019 20:47

He is on container ships. She said at the beginning.

Doobydoobydooyeh · 27/01/2019 20:50

Thank you. I must have missed that.

DaveCoachesgavemetheclap · 27/01/2019 20:51

Baby Dawn is very cute.

Clionba · 27/01/2019 20:55

What a touching episode. They're always moving, but this was beautifully done. So much love and care.

Soubriquet · 27/01/2019 20:56

Oh bless her....I welled up as soon as the husband started to clap at his wife

Aragog · 27/01/2019 21:01

That episode really got me.
When the husband clapped his wife.
When the receptionist brought the rose tree.

jessstan2 · 27/01/2019 21:08

It was a lovely episode, very moving. Oh that dear little baby, Kirk; would be nice if we saw him grow up fine and dandy which children do when operated on for cleft palate Bless.

The beach was a great idea and very successful.

I love everyone in the series, feel as though they are my friends. I'm a sad case

DaveCoachesgavemetheclap · 27/01/2019 21:08

Agreed- a beautiful, touching episode.

Clionba · 27/01/2019 21:12

They're a proper community, aren't they?
We've lost that.

MrsJamin · 27/01/2019 21:13

Ah this ended up a very nice episode. I still can't stand the doctor and his wife, they are such bad actors! The incidental actors easily outshine them every episode! It brought a tear to my eye, the woman who'd lost a son and didn't manage to say goodbye. I liked seeing the softer side of the receptionist.

Clionba · 27/01/2019 21:15

Yes, it was good bringing out her caring side.

ChesterGreySideboard · 27/01/2019 21:17

The ending had me in tears.

It was the cost of hot water that was often the issue, which is why most of us could only have a bath and hair wash once a week.

I still have the urge to have a bath on a Sunday night. I’m itching for one now, I can’t the cat is sat on me so I can’t get up, even though I had a shower this morning and every morning.

CoolCarrie · 27/01/2019 21:20

Operation Smile and Smile Train repair cleft palates, it costs about £150 per operation. They are working all over the world.

jessstan2 · 27/01/2019 21:44

Yes, Smile Train is a worthy cause indeed and one I support.

I've never thought of Dr and Mrs Turner as bad actors, they seem to fit those parts very well and speak as people spoke back then (which I remember being old :-) ).

MrsJamin · 27/01/2019 21:47

The way they deliver their lines is so wooden. It's been pointed out before that the doctors real life wife is the Call the Midwife creator Heidi Thomas. Hmm
