I thought it was weird, to be honest, as she's a better dancer than Karen or Janette. She looks a bit like Aliona, so maybe that was why they weren't keen - I recently watched Caroline & Pasha's jive, and I was puzzled that Aliona was a backing dancer, then I realised it was Gordana, so I can see that it might be a bit confusing

Googling photos of Trent, it's struck me that AJ looks like his younger (English) brother
