OP posts:

How come ‘action man’ drives the same car as the Palestinian who was lured by the pretend hitchhiker?

Also, weren't we told he was some sort of 'terrorist mastermind'? What 'terrorist mastermind' picks up a hitchhiker - however fit she might be - while on his way to pick up explosives? I suppose the same 'terrorist mastermind' who cavorts with his accomplice in front of wide open windows.

Charlie seems to be incredibly smart

She seems incredibly naive and annoying to me.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/10/2018 22:55

I'm pretty sure that was London's Brunswick Centre estate standing in for the Olympic village in Munich...

HoleyCoMoley · 28/10/2018 22:55

I got confused. Do all the women recruited wear yellow or am I over thinking it.

Wingedharpy · 28/10/2018 22:55

I'm confused too but whats more, I don't care !
Doubt I'll be back for part 2 etc.

Flaskfan · 28/10/2018 23:00

I wondered about the yellow thing. And why wasn't Charliee totally weirded out by him buying her a dress? I've been married 15 years and still f I'm nd it eeird if dh bought me a dress!

thenightsky · 28/10/2018 23:02

QueenOfTheAndals

I thought Brunswick Centre too, but googling images of Munich Olympic village shows very similar buildings, so probably filmed there.

VenusInSpurs · 28/10/2018 23:02

“I'm pretty sure that was London's Brunswick Centre estate standing in for the Olympic village in Munich...”

I thought that!

TheLastMermaid · 28/10/2018 23:05

Loved it.

Hope it lives up to what I hope based on this episode.

makingtime · 28/10/2018 23:05

*“I'm pretty sure that was London's Brunswick Centre estate standing in for the Olympic village in Munich...”

I thought that!*

And me! But it turns out while it actually was filmed in London, it wasn't the Brunswick Centre but the Alexandra Estate in Camden:

Too much to be concentrating on on a Sunday night. I switched off after 10 mins and watched Pru and Tim instead.

PrincessScarlett · 28/10/2018 23:07

The colour yellow kept jumping out at me. The girl who delivered the bomb at the beginning was wearing a yellow cardigan, the pretend hitchhiker was wearing a yellow top and Charlie was given a yellow dress to wear.

I'm intrigued. It would appear that Charlie has been recruited for something and has been watched for a while.

AlessandroVasectomi · 28/10/2018 23:10

In my experience anything written by Le Carre is difficult to follow - seemingly perversely so. I watched with a half anti mood, waiting to be proved wrong, but this seemed true to form. At this rate I won’t be watching many future episodes. Me and the Signora like to sit down to a good drama but not when it’s this obtuse.

beanaseireann · 28/10/2018 23:14

I found it boring.

AnyFucker · 28/10/2018 23:28

It was crap

BitOfFun · 28/10/2018 23:35

Get off the fence' why don't you, Anyfucker? Grin. I'm sending you a PM, btw x

WipsGlitter · 29/10/2018 08:02

It was very slow.

Charlie was a right pain in the arse. But in that "I'm 20 and think know everything" way.

And a "benefactor " paid for them to go and lie on a beach?! WTAF.

LadyPeterWimsey · 29/10/2018 08:26

Well I enjoyed it - mostly because it looked amazing and didn't mess with the book too much, and the book is one of my favourite novels which I read about once a year.

I noticed people on Twitter thinking it odd that she would just wear the dress he gave her, and it is odd in that context but makes more sense in the book because it happens slightly later in the story.

And yes, it is slow and confusing, but that's because it is fairly faithful to the book which does a brilliant job of showing you random pieces of the puzzle and then slowly putting them together to make a tense and humane thriller.

LadyPeterWimsey · 29/10/2018 08:29

VenusInSpurs You have hit on all the key points, and those things should make much more sense in the next episode or two. Please keep watching!

Clawdy · 29/10/2018 08:42

Not sure. Will probably watch the next, but there are so many espionage dramas at the moment.

VenusInSpurs · 29/10/2018 08:49

Yes, I will be watching’

beanaseireann · 29/10/2018 08:51

Who paid for the troupe to go to Greece ?
Was it the Israelis ?
The empty jewellery box - what was that about ?

PrincessScarlett · 29/10/2018 09:13

I think there is some link between the empty jewellery box Charlie had and the identifying necklace that girl delivering suitcase was wearing at the beginning. They made a big point of the necklace making her identifiable. Although why you would even deliver a bomb when you stand out like a sore thumb makes me think the girl was a double agent so the Israelis could recognise their mole.

MissMarplesKnitting · 29/10/2018 09:18

Le Carre plots are always lots of threads that have to be established. Then they get woven together.

I'm heartily saddened that so many (see the daily mail!) are complaining it's too confusing/too hard and haven't the patience to let the plotline build.

Part of the joy in these types of story is in watching all the threads come together.

thenightsky · 29/10/2018 09:20

I thought it was good.

I assume it was the Mossad who paid for the troupe to go to Greece?
