Wow well done eastenders! I cried twice!

IStandWithPosie · 29/11/2018 20:18

Kat
Ruby
Stacey
Whitney
Linda

Kathy if she’d been there. Would Ian be so vocal then?

The80sweregreat · 29/11/2018 20:22

Tough to watch.
Nothing has really moved on about this subject at all. Same old judgements.

squirrelonapetridish · 29/11/2018 20:24

What a great episode. Denise talked a lot of sense, Sharon's comment about being thrown against a wall was a bit weird and inappropriate!

IStandWithPosie · 29/11/2018 20:25

They deserve an award for this storyline. It’s so incredibly well researched and portrayed. It’s like watching all the comments on social media being spoken instead of written.

The80sweregreat · 29/11/2018 20:28

It was like hearing a thread rather than reading it.

TetherEnding · 29/11/2018 20:29

I'd forgotten how ace Denise is. Also shed a tear, both for Ruby and actually all of womankind Sad. Love Linda. Martin's a cunt. It was very well done IMHO.

The80sweregreat · 29/11/2018 20:32

Martin also has a daughter but still tends to 'side' with his friends.

IStandWithPosie · 29/11/2018 20:35

It was really shocking to see Martin look his daughter in the eye and say “they’re my friends”. Really Martin? That’s where your loyalties lie? Even standing looking at your baby girl and knowing it could as easily have been her as it Ruby and telling her you wouldn’t believe her if the men were your friends? So friendship is the deciding factor.

IStandWithPosie · 29/11/2018 20:39

And they’re not even his friends. He hadn’t seen them since high school. What she’s really saying is “I’m siding with men, no matter what they did. Boys stick together”

creamcheeseandlox · 29/11/2018 20:40

What a strange episode

The80sweregreat · 29/11/2018 20:43

It was different for EE.
So many different points of view.

WhyAmISoCold · 29/11/2018 21:14

I feel like they are re-writing Martin's personality to fit this storyline. He is a decent bloke who wouldn't think like this, but because they want to show all the sides, they have changed him to fit. I wouldn't expect Stacey to be able to get past this with him as I wouldn't if it was my partner.

Unfortunate to see no men at all could see that no yes = no consent. Ian was particularly abhorrent but then I suspect a lot of men think like him.

IStandWithPosie · 29/11/2018 21:35

I get why they did it for the storyline but I thought it was really awful of Stacey to make Ruby stay in the pub after they saw the two rapists there with Martin. Any decent friend would take their mate straight out of there.

nancy75 · 29/11/2018 21:50

Just catching up, what was Denise’s reaction when Linda said Dean raped her? I thought she sided with Dean?

nancy75 · 29/11/2018 21:55

And what the hell is Saron talking about??

staydazzling · 29/11/2018 22:04

I agree Posie , it was well intended but cringy aswell tbh.

youarenotkiddingme · 29/11/2018 22:10

That was the hardest watch I think I've ever had of a soap.

Well done EE

Oreocrumbs · 30/11/2018 06:37

I thought that was a very clever episode. It's a rare occurrence that I give a soap my full attention, I'm usually faffing on my phone or something while they're on but the phone went down and I sat and watched.

I think the point Sharon was meant to be making was that she didn't want to end up in the situation when men feel like they have to ask for permission ahead of time, and that she likes the spontaneity and a bit of alpha male type behaviour. Although I'm not sure talking about being slammed against walls was the best way to demonstrate that.

I think Martin is playing a difficult situation.

To his mind rape is grabbing a girl off the street and assaulting her. And this is why the consent issue needs to be addressed and made clear in the public eye. For years rape is depicted on tv as a woman being manhandled and screaming no and stop. Or crying or showing visible signs that this is not ok. And now they are demonstrating that there is far more to it than grabbing a woman and dragging her into a dark alley to be rape.

I also think - presuming we are meant to believe these are his friends rather than lads from school he hasn't seen for 20 years until that night that night.... That it must be a very difficult thing to get your head round.

If someone told me right now that my best friend had done something, even something terrible, and she told me absolutely that she didn't. I would believe her. And even in the face of 'a witch hunt' I'd like to think as a principled person I would stand up for her. So I suppose this is the position they have put martin in. It's been very well covered.

puddlesplashing · 30/11/2018 20:20

When did jean become friends with Ian lol

IStandWithPosie · 30/11/2018 20:21

Why does Hayley’s baby look 5 months old?? Grin has she got a name yet?

sockportal · 30/11/2018 20:22

Jean 😂

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/11/2018 20:23

OMG Posie. I was honestly about to say the same thing.
Oh her name is Rose.

cheesydoesit · 30/11/2018 20:24

Yeah, all the characters I can think of off the top of my head who have been raped in EE have been so by men known and trusted by them. Also, yes the Kat storyline can get repetitive but I think it's a good illustration of how she has been affected by the abuse she suffered. Completely agreed with Denise saying she was frightened of hearing Kush's thoughts on the matter. Is so crushingly disappointing when you realise a man won't even listen or try to understand the fear and 'white noise' Stacey described. Linda was brilliant last night and Becks has more awareness than both of her parents.

IStandWithPosie · 30/11/2018 20:30

Oh rose! I didnt think she was sticking with that. I haven’t heard anyone use it except Bev that one time when she suggested it.

So Alfie Is going to walk in and meet his daughter.
