I've not watched last weeks yet, need to catch up and I'm WAY behind on extra slice - 3 episodes I think.
As a veggie the vegan aspect I find fascinating! Point of order though - honey isn't vegan. Some vegans will only use certain types of sugar too - I remember it's beet sugar rather than cane but I forget why. (Sorry vegans).
I'm glad pru and Paul holding them to usual high standards on quality and flavour, just because someone is veggie or vegan doesn't mean they've lost their taste buds! I wish ready meal developers, and certain restaurants and cafes would learn this!
"Random news but if there any Scots on this thread, my Facebook feed tells me a vegetarian Square sausage has just been launched" details please!
I live in hope of a veggie scotch pie - I know I should try and do my own but I don't think I could do the pastry right.
Love beetroot - good source of iron and magnesium among other things.
I used to love spam fritters too! (How the hell am I veggie??) I also miss tongue, and oxtail soup.
"The only thing I remember about school dinners was the desserts" I was very lucky that my introduction to school dinners was excellently made food from scratch. Yes spam fritters but we also had (and bear in mind this was early 70's!) spaghetti bolognese, Hungarian ghoulash, hot pot, freshly made fish and proper chips on Fridays (sardines and salad in summer), corn beef hash, as well as more traditional fare such as pork chops, gammon. Sausages and mash. Puddings included cornflake tart (mentioned on extra slice I think?), gypsy tart, banana custard (custard made from scratch NOT powder), Jam roly poly, spotted dick, Black Forest gateau (special occasions), excellent Victoria sponge - the only pud I didn't like was jelly and ice cream as I've never liked jelly texture. Bff and I used to swap as she didn't like ice cream 😱 we even had fresh made from scratch coleslaw and potato salad. I firmly believe that the head cook from there should have been cloned!
