Anyone going to be watching the new Doctor Who now it is a woman?
Love Jodie as an actress. Never been fussed on the doctor before!!

I am surprised that people enjoyed the last episode. Me and DH sat and laughed almost the whole way through. So much overacting and just so silly.

Really not keen on this series at all

costacoffeecup · 30/11/2018 09:44

Been watching religiously since the Christopher Eccleston days but have given up on it now, not watched the last three. It used to be appointment viewing and the Christmas special was the highlight of my Christmas tv but I can't get on board with these characters. I think JW is an amazing actress but she just leaves me cold in this and I don't think the stories are as clever or engaging. Don't care about any of the companions. I'm quite sad about the whole thing!

SmallDalek · 01/12/2018 04:29

costacoffeecup me too. They’ve ruined the magic, the excitement and stomped over the whole programme by emotionally manipulating the viewer imo. There have been a few lousy Doctors over the years - Sylvester McCoy and Peter Davidson but never before has it been the total disaster it is now.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 02/12/2018 19:09

Wow. This is dire.

SmallDalek · 02/12/2018 19:27

Judas 🙈. Dire indeed.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 02/12/2018 19:57

I like the Doctor, but the storylines are doing her no favours

SoupDragon · 02/12/2018 19:58

Ugh! Another duff episode. Last weeks had promise, this week was shit.

noodlenosefraggle · 02/12/2018 19:59

That was utter rubbish! And I never say that about Who! I like Jodie. I don't like the poor stories and monsters.

2rebecca · 02/12/2018 20:15

I've given up. I turned on before Strictly when she was talking to a frog and felt I wasn't missing anything. And she seemed to have gained even more hangers on. One assistant is plenty. There doesn't have to be an age/ ethnicity diversity panel. Choose an adult who can act.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/12/2018 20:22

I really enjoyed that episode. It was a little bonkers but in a fun way. Had a nice bit of menace going in it.

My only complaint is that it seemed very warm for the top end of Norway in winter. Though granted, it is remarkably unsnowy across Norway so far this winter.

seventhgonickname · 02/12/2018 20:31

We thought the creature in the cave looked as if it had dropped out of Sarah Jane.
The companions are pointless and not one single storyline would have happened without that sonic vibrator.
So bad.I used to love Dr Who but this is just so bad, they need some decent writers and some real aliens. All the humour has gone out of it too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/12/2018 21:13

The sonic screwdriver is over used now.

LassWiADelicateAir · 02/12/2018 22:31

Yes , too much sonic and too many companions. Yaz continues to amaze me- how can she be so irritating and yet so dull at the same time?

The story was rubbish and quite nasty. The father's behaviour was appalling.

SmallDalek · 02/12/2018 22:48

And Meanwhile Tosin Cole seems to sound more monotone with every passing episode.

LassWiADelicateAir · 02/12/2018 23:43

I thought he was marginally better tonight, but admittedly that's from a very low base. There was actually a point to the scenes with him and the little girl.

I'm beginning to find the Dr's neediness a bit wearing. All that these are my friends! My new friend! I'll always be your friend!

LassWiADelicateAir · 02/12/2018 23:51

But overall I liked this episode - they missed sneaking in the famous description of James I and VI as "the wisest fool in Christendom"

I thought they hinted at it very cleverly. Everyone who knows the description must have been quoting it at that point.

Tonight's story was basically a variation on the same theme. Something powerful and dangerous needs to be kept locked up.

Mrsjohnmurphy · 02/12/2018 23:54

This bollocks has actually made me appreciate moffat who more, so that's good (been watching it in another channel). I hated moffat Grin but this is actual idiocy, at least moffat could actually write, had layers and characterization, sophistication.

MigGril · 03/12/2018 06:27

We have been so disappointed with this seriers, the writing is so poor. Doctor Who has never been so bad that I've concidered not watching it at all 😢.

And I was so looking forward to having a female doctor as well, it needs the tied in story line to keep you hooked. Even the Sarah Jane Smith series was better then this and it was aimed at kids.

CountFosco · 03/12/2018 06:33

I liked this episode. I clearly need aliens. The void was scary with the vampire moths. And Yaz made me giggle when she said 'can't you reverse the polarity or something'.

ladyflower23 · 03/12/2018 07:12

I was quite into this episode until the dire ending where she said to the frog 'I'll stay and be your friend. Actually I can't stay so can you let me go but promise to be bffs 4eva'. Then the frog goes oh all right then. And that's it problem solved. At least she didn't use her sonic screwdriver though. It must be running out of batteries by now. They should have called social services on the dad. Writing is bad, acting is wooden and JW pants way too much. I miss Moffat too and RTD. I am praying for new writers and Dr soon. Miss this show so much Sad

starlight45 · 03/12/2018 07:17

ladyflower23, I agree. That Dad was awful. Poor child.

SoupDragon · 03/12/2018 07:22

The void was scary with the vampire moths. And Yaz made me giggle when she said 'can't you reverse the polarity or something'.

Yes, those were two highlights in the direness.

The basic idea was good - the portal, the other universe... it's just the story that they hung on that framework was poor. The Doctor is so irritating - like a spaniel puppy with no attention span or off switch.

superoz · 03/12/2018 12:31

Dd is heavily into Who and still enjoys watching new Dr.

I’ve started to introduce her to the Ecclestone era and rewatching 2 episodes in, the difference in writing is huge. CE was such a fabulous actor and had a kind of swagger, but could also convey anger, sadness, joy - so easily. Rose actually asked intelligent questions and had a genuine inquisitiveness, whereas today’s assistants just seem to be...coasting. You could tell they had a smaller budget and the effects weren’t as good, but RTD’s writing was on top form, his characters were complex and there was the right level of peril for the viewer- alas, I find JW’s doctor and her assistants very 2D. But I also found this with Matt Smith in the first series he wasn’t in.

drspouse · 03/12/2018 13:38

I do think she's a lot like Matt Smith - being a puppy and making everything super fun.

TheNavigator · 03/12/2018 20:17

Even the Sarah Jane Smith series was better then this and it was aimed at kids.

Erm, Dr Who is a kids programme Grin It always was, especially in the Tom Baker glory days. A bit like the Harry Potter books - some adults may enjoy the escapism but the target market is children. I think some pretentious, overly complex, story arcs shifted it away from that for a time and I am very glad it is firmly back to its Sunday tea time roots.
