Anyone going to be watching the new Doctor Who now it is a woman?
Love Jodie as an actress. Never been fussed on the doctor before!!

I thought this was a great episode.

And as was wondering the same about the baddies being teleported, surely they will appear again.

ThanksItHasPockets · 22/10/2018 16:54

It was apparently the first episode ever of Doctor Who to be written by a woman of colour.

billydilly · 22/10/2018 17:02

I'm enjoying her humour " I did NOT warm to him!" She has a warmth that's been missing for a long time.

SoupDragon · 22/10/2018 17:07

I don't see her as being any different to any of the recent doctors tbh.

5foot5 · 22/10/2018 17:12

God forbid that a person is honest and comes back to a thread and acknowledges they may have been hasty though, eh?

Hm. But you have already said (unless it was a joke) that the reason you would go back and watch it again fully is because it was written by Malorie Blackman! So if you hadn't found that out would you have continued with your mistaken assumption that they had tried to spin the story as Rosa Parks only being able to make her stand because of the intervention of Dr Who and friends? Because that really, really wasn't the story.

UrsulaPandress · 22/10/2018 17:23

Talk about prejudging.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/10/2018 17:25

Hey, peace-out everyone :) what would the Doctor think about this argument? Wink

AlbusPercival · 22/10/2018 17:36

Bloody hell, 50 years for ab episode to be written by a black woman says almost as much as the episode doesn’t it?

nuttynutjob · 22/10/2018 18:26

Krasko = Skaro K

HiHoToffee · 22/10/2018 18:53

What about the initials on the suitcase, GFB? Anything to do with Krasko or something to look out for in future episodes, a bit like bad wolf?

DoctorTwo · 22/10/2018 20:07

When I saw that Malorie Blackmon was lead writer for this ep. I was excited. The reality was a tad disappointing. Jodie, however, was brilliant. I think she's going to be a great Doctor.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/10/2018 20:22

hmm, clues! I didn't even notice the initials.

FermatsTheorem · 22/10/2018 21:06

Skaro K... ooh, interesting.

(Is Malorie Blackman the first person of colour of either sex to write for Dr. Who? I can only think of white men who have written episodes. I have to say, having just read Noughts and Crosses, I was so excited when I saw her name on the opening credits. And to my mind, she didn't disappoint.)

WhirlwindHugs · 22/10/2018 21:18

Apparently there have only been 4 women writers before this series! "Since Doctor Who was rebooted back in 2005, only eight episodes out of 134 carry a writers credit from a woman. In fact, only four female writers have worked on the series: Rona Munro, Catherine Tregenna, Helen Raynor and Sarah Dollard."

I know Russell t davies worked with Julie gardener as producer for a long time, so at least his run had some female influence.

Not sure the same can be said about Moffat!

Not sure the same can be said about Moffat!

His wife, Sue Vertue, produced the comic relief Doctor Who special in 1999. They also famously worked together on Coupling and she produced Sherlock but doesn't appear to have done any NuWho.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 23/10/2018 10:22

I was v excited to see that Malorie Blackman was the writer, but I found the story a bit heavy-handed, particularly the way the Doctor and the companions kept explaining everything that was going on in front of other people who just made on they couldn’t hear them shouting down the bus and so on - Rosa had met all of them, they were in her bus and they kept shouting things about white seats to each other and to Ryan at the other end, and she supposedly didn’t hear any of it and nor did anyone else!

Also the villain got zapped and the Doctor didn’t do it and she didn’t say a word about it afterwards!

thecatsthecats · 23/10/2018 10:55

handed, particularly the way the Doctor and the companions kept explaining everything that was going on in front of other people who just made on they couldn’t hear them shouting down the bus and so on - Rosa had met all of them, they were in her bus and they kept shouting things about white seats to each other and to Ryan at the other end, and she supposedly didn’t hear any of it and nor did anyone else!

I was HEAVILY eye rolling at that point - Rosa was sat right bloody behind the Doctor! But forgave it in light of the otherwise well-handled story.

Far, far, FAR superior to the 'Peter Capaldi smacking racist Victorian one in the chops' level of handling race in historical episodes.

I’ve just got all caught up on iplayer I was on holiday when the first two were shown.
I’m actually quite liking JW as the dr. Wasn’t sure I would but I say that every change.
Loved the last episode I actually cried at the end the music was what tipped me over. Ds2 was watching with me and was a good chance to discuss Rosa Parks as well.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 23/10/2018 18:44

I don’t mind JW at all (although her clothes are minging!) and it took me a long time to warm up to Peter Capaldi and I couldn’t stand Clara anyway so largely gave up on it because of her. I was v annoyed by the dangerous water in the previous week’s episode that then did nothing at all - you don’t put an element like that in a story and then ignore it! A character should have fallen in or they should have all realised that the boat was sinking or anything, but they didn’t!

ohreallyohreallyoh · 23/10/2018 18:54

Just watched it. It made me cry. Lovely to have something so important to be able to discuss with my children afterwards.

jmh740 · 23/10/2018 21:45

Just watched it with dd and ds was really moving , great to talk to primary aged dcs about Rosa Parks. I only started watch Dr who with capaldi but I'm really enjoying jw

TheFirstOHN · 28/10/2018 18:01

I think I'm going to have to give this evening's episode a miss. I realise that arachnids have an important part to play in controlling the population of flies, but I prefer not to have to look at them.

SoupDragon · 28/10/2018 19:13

Oh
My
God

Scariest monster ever! 😂

StripySocksAndDocs · 28/10/2018 19:21

Might need sedation after this.
