Apologies if it’s been talked about before but I couldn’t find a thread.

Just finished season 1 ( late to the party). Loved it. Wondering if it stays as charming and whitty for season 2 or gets repetitive.

I’ve enjoyed it so far. Fingers crossed.

I actually sobbed. The DC who have never lost anyone important to the thought it lovely and pretty perfect. I was distraught when Eleanor asked Chidi to be gone before she awoke. 😭

I quite liked the ending but it would have been much better if Chidi had waited for Eleanor to be ready to go through the door and gone with her. Surely he wouldn't have left her alone .... really sad for a light-hearted show.

I was convinced that some kind of reincarnation was going to feature at some point, and after Eleanor had gone through and the next scene was obviously set on Earth I was certain we were going to get our characters appearing again somehow - and I was completely wrong. It was just Michael and a random neighbour of his.

I think I would have felt more emotionally satisfied by the ending I thought was going to happen. But I see what the writers were doing. We don't know what happened after Eleanor/Chidi/Jason went through the door, just like they didn't know, and we ourselves don't know what will happen when we die. They were ready for it though. Beautiful but sad.

Jason leaving Janet and Chidi leaving Elenor really did feel off but also heartbreaking. I would have preferred all five of them to walk through together but that would have been too twee I suppose.

Agree about waiting for reincarnation, I was waiting for a glimpse.

Loved how Michael embraced even the most mundane on earth.

Glad to find this thread, I can’t stop thinking about the finale. I loved it. And I loved that they all went alone - the idea that you have a soulmate, and friends etc but that ultimately your life (& death) is yours to walk through alone. Sob.

Can’t believe it’s over!

Dozer · 02/02/2020 09:43

Yes, I thought it was realistic that Chidi would’ve waited a good while but then had to go.

Wish there actually WAS an afterlife something like that! As an atheist I don’t believe in it, shame!

Excellent ensemble performance, will miss it.

I think it was right for Chidi to go on his own, it wouldn’t have been his Good Place if he was just going through it waiting for Elenor to be ready and it was right for her to not make him stay because she’d changed so much she couldn’t be that selfish.

For what started out, on the face of it, as a 25 minute almost slapstick comedy about people being in the wrong place and trying not to get found out, it became about so much more.

I also thought it would end in re-incarnation. I predicted a scene in a maternity hospital nursery, showing little black, Asian and blonde babies representing the 3 who went through the door.

Personally I was disappointed as I think my version would have been better!

stealthbanana · 03/02/2020 20:06

@MrsFionaCharming I think they went on nr step further and reached nirvana, the new good place system was kind of like reincarnation - you go through it lots of times. And maybe the green doors too - you can be whatever you want (albeit in a Jeremy bearimy type time line). Then when you’ve done you reach nirvana and dissolve.

celebgoss101 · 08/02/2020 02:44

Loved the show so much. If you haven't listened to the official podcast I highly recommend.

Chidi would have waited for Elanor , but Elanor knew that true love was to let him go when he knew his time was done.

They are supposed to have been there for 1000s of years. Jason knew Janet would be ok, like she said she doesnt feel time the same way.

When they walk through the door, they are basiclsly no more but little parts of their soul live on such as the part that floated into earth and landed in that man who then realised he should take that letter to Michael.

The wave just becomes part of the oxean again.
