Nobody was home to babysit I suppose.

That scene was horrific. I never liked Isaac and I thought Eden was going to be trouble when she arrived, but I never expected this to be so awful. I cried.

All those other weights at the bottom of the pool. They both looked so young.

And that prayer Eden said, I've heard that at weddings. It's like she was taking her last chance to make a commitment to Isaac.

What a total fucking waste of people. Gilead claims to be all about boosting the birth rate and wanting babies, but god forbid those babies grow up to be anything other than state managed robots.

Have we discussed Serena attempting to breastfeed the baby?! Wtaf

Also glad Serena looked horrified and shocked...
Nick overwhelmed with guilt
June ditto.. She told Eden to take love were she could find it.

Eden never better acted... Sounded and looked just like a rebellious teenager in love for the first time.
That line 'I love Isaac and he loves me and we want to be together'... How many thousands of teens have uttered those lines..

The way they use “normal” things in the way they do is just chilling. Swimming pool for execution in the same way that the mock mass hanging at the beginning of the series was in a football stadium. No need for these things in Gilead.

On a separate note, the whole thing with Nick & Eden was very The Crucible (fave play) but with Eden as John Proctor and Nick as Elizabeth - Eden asking him to forgive her and him saying it was his fault for not treating her kindly, then her taking what she felt was the just punishment because God knows what is in her heart and she can’t lie to save her life whilst damning her soul.

Is Serena on the turn?

Oh my gosh. Extra cuddles for my children tonight.

Trouble is... Serena turns just like that.

Next week they'll sow the seeds for insurrection setting up season three!! Serena can see it's gone too far...

How does June find it in herself to offer any kindness to serena?

Serena is not on the turn, she is living vicariously through June breastfeeding the baby. Because she can’t. Just like the fake labour/birth, serena will be telling herself she is feeding the child. It’s nothing to do with being kind to June. It’s all about what serena wants.

I hate serena. But at the same time I know that overwhelming desperation for a child. But I hate her.

I am totally conflicted at the moment.

I wonder if it’s a symbolism thing. Women together.

I wonder if serena will help June escape and go with her and they raise the baby together!

Serena won't turn really. She's a narcissist. She hates June even when she's tender to her. Especially then.

That's a bible verse (Corinthians) that's often used at weddings - we had it at ours & I've a print of it up on the wall.

Oh gawd. Keeps making me cry.

Very worried about Emily. And poor Eden.

Maybe now that Serena is a 'mum' she can see just what a horror Gilead is? She could put herself in the place of Eden's poor weeping mother who she sat next to?

Serena has disappointed us before though, so I'm not getting my hopes up just yet.

I really swing between hating Serena and then wanting her to be good and liking her a bit!

Sometimes when she does something in anger and turns against June or whoever I think part of it is because she feels guilty, and knows that what she's doing is totally wrong.

I just think June is an inherently good person.

Adultery aside

I agreed with everything said about Serena but dear god did I feel sorry for her in that last scene. The look on her face was just heartbreaking.

I don't think you can describe June's behaviour as 'adultery' given that she may never see her husband again, and she didn't even know he was alive until recently. And in their previous life, Luke was the one committing adultery, not her.

sister i disagree. As an earlier poster said she thought a baby would make her happy but it hasn't. I think she is starting to realise how powerful the mother baby bond is and she will never have that with holly.

I think serena is sympathetic having just seen Edens death, and edens mother (I assume?) shouting out to Eden in desperation. I think serena has softened a bit.
I agree serena thinks Gilead has gone to far. I think she'll start to question if she wants 'her' baby brought up in that world, having recently been reminded of the life before in Canada. Before Nichole/Holly, serena was just out for herself, but I think the baby has forces her change of perspective.

She's so conflicted though, I agree she can turn quickly.
