They will know what the public perception of Alex is, and hot on the heels of him dumping Alexandra they show him telling jack it would be his dream to walk out together and jack downplaying it to leaving the same day. I've also noticed jacks pdas to him are a little more distant now, more hands off. Still happening but more awkward. It's Alex going in for them and jack doing the pat and release thing.
I do wonder if the other islanders are also suspecting he may be gay, the convo a while ago with the girls saying they thought they'd fancy him but when you met him you simply can't imagine being more than a friend, and Laura's expression of surprise about the way Alexandra talked about him.

I'm wondering if they aren't articulating it but also thinking something isn't right.
