Lots of doctors do things that are bad for them . We drink too much, some smoke too much and many eat crap food when on call. That's the analogy.

However, I have a couple of fair friends who go bright red in the sun or heat, even with total block, then it fades. It''s not sunburn, more like a flushing reaction to heat. He may just have sensitive skin.

But whatever it is, it is unrelated to his ability to deal efficiently and competently with an accident or emergency.

I don't know why I'm bothering arguing the toss about Alex, because I don't really feel strongly about him. I suppose it's because I'm a doctor and was on a reality TV show many, many years ago- so it touches a nerve!

I don't dispute he's trying to fit in generally.

What I meant was that claiming his poor skincare management was down to trying to fit in was bizarre as the implication is that he's willing to risk psoriasis flare ups and skin cancer just to be like the other kids. Is he really that weak a character?

It does rather imply that he won't be much good at managing someone else's skin conditions if he can't even manage his own.

Fair skinned types tend to flush red when they first go it the sun - it quickly calms down. But Alex has been red for nearly two months. That is not right.

Shambu I'd agree, I also don't get the correlation between not managing a skin condition appropriately and fitting in, the other contestants had to tell him about a higher factor lotion as we saw in earlier episodes.

And yes the implication is if he can't manage his own skin condition how can he manage others.

I still don't get how this relates to living a g&t and being a good surgeon or how anyone with a skin condition would wear a lower factor sun tan lotion than is necessary simply to fit in. The mans 27.im assuming he's been abroad before. He must understand the implications of prolonged strong sun for him.

I don't know anything about the skin condition but I thought he wasn't sun burnt, his skin just goes red and patchy and this can be triggered by sun exposure. I bet he'll speak a lot about his skin when he comes out in the way Ellie wrote a long instagram caption about her hair when she came out!

I know a brilliant cardiologist who smokes heavily, a wonderful GP with type 2 diabetes who is still significantly overweight and any number of doctors who drink more than 21 units a week despite telling their patients not to. This is similar.
Medics consistently look after their patients' health and wellbeing more than their own.

@cathy is right-the analogy is with Drs doing lots of things that are bad for you and that indeed they would tell their patients not to do! Which includes having a daily G&T. He can-and sometimes does-tell patients about their diet and drinking. One of the GPs at our surgery is obese-am sure he probably advises patients on weight management on occasion-hopefully with a wry look on his face.

Just because Alex doesn't manage his own condition well doesn't mean that he wouldn't be able to manage a patients skin condition or save a life in A&E.

There are any number of stupid doctors in the world I don’t think anyone disputes that.

If they did that on TV they’d get flak comparable to Alex.

Hmm, Alex is an a&e doc though isn’t he? Not a dermatologist. I can’t get too het up about this. His skin looks flushed and not burnt to me.

I do worry about all of them. Even the dislikeable ones seem quite vulnerable when you think of the shit storm of unpleasant comments total strangers are making about them on social media.

I think he hasn't picked a speciality yet. His recent placements have been in both A&E and gynae I think.

I don’t think he’s is an A & E doctor. He’s a junior doctor doing rotations afaik.

Not sure Alex 1 shoving Alex’s hand down his pants and her pulling her hand away warrants cheering (not that I can stand do bits cheering anyway). I still think she feels like she should like him rather than actually likes him

I kind of want Alex put but I love when they arenfilmed being forced to run along or go down stairs as if they are so excited and being made to dance as if they were doing it naturally, his attempts make me laugh!

I would agree with that. I was reading the experience of someone called Zara Holland - last year was my first LI season. She was saying how hard it was to deal with the abuse and general negativity.

I do think some of them are very naive about the aftermath, partly because they’re so young.

I think Alex3 is trying valiantly to like Alex in the face of dodgy behaviour.

Can you imagine the amount of mardy drunk people coming up and laying in to Georgia in clubs right now? I shudder to think.

I think Stephanie and that dj guy will be in the bottom. Not sure who else really.

I hope it's not as predictable as those with least votes go, as that will be Stephanie and that bloke.

When she came out she said she had seen so many comments about her hair and that she was rubbish at hair and makeup and usually just gets a blowdry every week so with all the sun lotion and pie her hair had got really bad and she was going to get it done asap.

My predictions for bottom 3 are;

And I hope Kaz and Josh1 go. They're so smug, I think their faces would be an absolute picture.

All I can hear in the background recently is Josh's voice. He's so desperate for screen time it's ridiculous and it's amused me slightly knowing how little he's actually getting. He'll be fuming when he comes out.

But I think you would find that there are quite a number of people of that age who do not have much self-confidence and self esteem and maybe more people not being so judgemental and having awareness, consideration and patience with them would actually improve their confidence and abilities? Who knows? And maybe we wouldn't have the increasing number of young people struggling with mental health issues that we are?

I really don't think Alex has self confidence, self esteem or mental health issues. Maybe you're taking it a little far now.

If anything I'd say the man was over confident the way he dumped Alex to try to get Laura then acted like he didn't know what happened when he wanted her back, and two days later is shoving her hand down his shorts.

Cathy did you find loads of discussions about you while you were on or was it back in the days when people watched but didn’t discuss online so much? Did the comments affect you in any way?
