Starts on Sunday on ITV1.

Not sure why Pete's funeral was several months after he died Hmm

Obviously 'Natasha' was not Chris's daughter, but just the thought of all these callous murders, and the doc seeming to relish in everyone's pain, was too much for Cassie.

Cannot wait for Season 4.

southeastdweller · 19/08/2018 22:06

I knew the killer would be played by a well-known and experienced actor and Alex Jennings was superb but the reveal feels so obvious and generic. This series was easily the weakest of the three.

Nacreous · 19/08/2018 22:07

I feel very confused by this season. Glad she got back with the dishy detective though!

Flowersonthewall · 19/08/2018 22:07

I wanted to know what the 2nd wife and daughter knew or do you think the look she gave while sat at the table indicated he was abusive to her too?
Very uncomfortable watching he was sick and twisted

ToEarlyForDecorations · 19/08/2018 22:07

I think so.

Chris's new relationship seems to have started to easily.

What's the deal with the son who likes wearing make up and the Dad who will do anything for him ? Was that his mother saying we should let him take responsibility for his own life ?

southeastdweller · 19/08/2018 22:08

^Boyds arch nemesis Linda Cummings popped up a couple of times in Waking the Dead.

This could go a similar way^

But Unforgotten has always been about standalone stories.

buddhasbelly · 19/08/2018 22:08

I didn't think the flashbacks were accounted for in that episode.

The acting was superb but just thought something else was going to happen the whole way through.

mmmgoats · 19/08/2018 22:09

agree @southeastdweller

It's like the getting him in the end was too easy - finding the stuff and then him admitting it so readily.

Especially since there were hints of the daughter and current wife maybe knowing something/remembering something - I would have liked to see where that would have gone.

Kind of felt like too much time at the end was spent on the 'wrapping up' - giving other characters happy endings etc, the pacing of the episode felt off.

I think whoever said the first two series set such a high standard of expectation was right.

Graphista · 19/08/2018 22:10

V slightly anti-climactic due to no impossible to predict twist. The twist for this series seemingly being that it was a serial killer.

My transmission cut at the point where they asked why he'd buried her there, what did I miss? Don't really want to watch whole episode again just for that bit.

I'm not very familiar with the actor concerned - but am I right in thinking he normally plays "good guys"?

Cos he played a blinding "evil bastard" in this.

Violetroselily · 19/08/2018 22:10

Yeah the funeral thing is odd. Obv it can take a while to release a body for burial, but surely not that long when the COD is known and was a medical cause

viques · 19/08/2018 22:11

So sometimes there isn't a twist and a lying murdering psycho is just a lying murdering psycho! I give up on trying to outthink scriptwriters, they are getting too clever, they know we expect a twist so they play it straight. Bastards.

Good series though, hope cassie doesn't resign.

mmmgoats · 19/08/2018 22:11

@graphista he said because he wanted to see if he could get away with it

Inkanta · 19/08/2018 22:13

"I give up on trying to outthink scriptwriters, they are getting too clever, they know we expect a twist so they play it straight. Bastards."

hackmum · 19/08/2018 22:13

I couldn’t quite understand why Tim was always so kind to Chris. Not the behaviour of a psychopath, is it?

QueenOfTheAndals · 19/08/2018 22:13

@Graphista He is best known for playing Alan Bennett, Prince Charles, and the Duke of Windsor! I also saw him as Henry Higgins many years ago in My Fair Lady. I've never seen him play a psychopath before but bloody hell he was chilling.

mmmgoats · 19/08/2018 22:14

@hackmum I know, I feel like I have loads of unanswered questions

mmmgoats · 19/08/2018 22:15

I think it was weird because usually they show you flashbacks to link up with the flashbacks that have been teased throughout but this time they didn't? Unless I missed them?

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 19/08/2018 22:16

I loved it he freaked me out, but did feel he gave up the game to quickly. However I don’t think we’ve seen the last of this cold killer.

Rockyrockcake · 19/08/2018 22:20

I cannot get over the tv broadcast. It added nothing to the story and, in such a meticulously research series, seemed so unrealistic.

Clawdy · 19/08/2018 22:21

I think the ending worked well. Too many twists become implausible, and this seemed terrifyingly real. What an amazing actor Alex Jennings is. And what excellent acting from the entire cast. Glad to see some happiness and closure for some of them at the end, too.

MinorRSole · 19/08/2018 22:24

I don't think it needed a twist - he was so chilling and cold that it had a profound effect without any twists. The way he spoke about rape and murder as if it was an ordinary event was unnerving. Very well acted

TheOnlyLivingMumInNewCross · 19/08/2018 22:26

I think, going on other series, it was a little rushed and anti climatic, but then the poor writers have set themselves up for that. Bit like a band who produce a ground-breaking first album, and then have to follow it up!

I would wonder too if they would continue into series 4. After all, they deal with those who have been forgotten, and if the evil Tim started in his twenties, there are more.

I also don't buy that the other two, especially Chris, didn't know about it or have involvement. Maybe Elliot is the way he is because Tim killed a girl he knew? Or maybe he saw him take Hayley?

Chris' wife also, according to his daughter, left and never questioned the accusations against him related to child pornography, and never allowed him near the daughter again. Was she so willing to believe because she knew what he and Tim got up to but, them both being quick to fly into a rage, she kept quiet but saw that as her opportunity to flee.

I also think both of Tim's wives knew. Is that why the daughters were at boarding school? Not because their mum was unwell but because she worried about them bringing friends home and what he would do?

Anyway bring on more Nicola Walker!

Graphista · 19/08/2018 22:28

Nancy why do you think 3+ months?

Chris' fiancée could have fallen pregnant by him before all this kicked off. She might have not known straight away, or just as she was about to it all kicked off and she didn't feel able to tell him.

Also the funeral wouldn't have happened quickly as Pete himself was a victim of crime. There'll have needed to be an autopsy, plus burial tends not to happen until they're as certain as they can be that they've got all the information they need from the body, plus tons of bureaucracy.

"when the COD is known and was a medical cause" strictly speaking all deaths are 'medical cause' - plus his death was likely as a result of the stabbing, but you couldn't know that for certain without an autopsy. Plus all premature, unexpected deaths have to be autopsied and it was linked to the original investigation too. The sheer amount of paperwork and people who'd have to sign off on that is huge.

"I knew the killer would be played by a well-known and experienced actor" all 4 main suspects fit that criteria though.

"Was that his mother saying we should let him take responsibility for his own life?" - yes it was

Mmmgoats - thanks. That fits, he was so arrogant. I take it we now think he WAS guilty of abusing that patient? Very much street Angel, house devil - well basement devil! Very hidden to most who knew him.

Op thanks - I've not seen him in anything that I'm aware of. Not one for watching stuff about royals post 19th century.

I think he'll be referenced at least in future seasons.

Just in case anyone involved is reading this PLEASE bring cassie back!

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 19/08/2018 22:29

Well I thought it was brilliant and both Nicola Walker and Alex Jennings should be nominated for BAFTAs

Jeippinghmip · 19/08/2018 22:32

What an excellent series. I love Nicola Walker and also Sunny. Great acting by all, especially the chilling doctor.
