I don't know if Raahh is around to start a new thread and I couldn't post on the last one because it's full! Hope you all find this!

Trying to place the umpire's accent.

PrivateParkin · 06/07/2018 20:34

Sorry to hear about your day Raahh. Glad to hear the mere sight of Goran is cheering you up though. I love it how he's always back at Wimbledon either as coach or the invitational doubles!

Raahh · 06/07/2018 20:36

Private it is helping Grin

Raonic needs to go back to plan 'a' for a bit. Forget coming to the net- and just whack a few serves in. Grin

PrivateParkin · 06/07/2018 20:37

Yes I think so. If they go off soon, he might feel differently tomorrow.

OneInAMillionYou · 06/07/2018 20:39

See, Fred, told you you'd get Rafa AND Djokovic/Edmund

(Outs self as member of Order of Play Committee 😀)

Raahh · 06/07/2018 20:39

It's a bit rubbish when they have had to wait all day, and then they will have to go in because of light.

And tomorrow will be such a heavy schedule - fitting them in to finish the match won't be easy.

And yes- they should have been on court one, and were shoved out on court 12- which is a bit rubbish really. Not much atmosphere.

Raahh · 06/07/2018 20:40

One Grin

GrouchyKiwi · 06/07/2018 20:46

DH (who is a linguist) and I think umpire might be some kind of weird French. Belgian? Quebecois? Frenchman living in Cockney London?

Raahh · 06/07/2018 20:51

Grouchy it does seem a mixture.

Some times I hear a bit of Australian.

Then I think it is Afrikaans.

Then I just think my ears near cleaning.

GrouchyKiwi · 06/07/2018 20:56

Dick van Dyke attempting an accent, most likely.

I do sometimes hear a Kiwi twang as well. Maybe he is just a World Citizen.

Raahh · 06/07/2018 20:58

Oh, shame.

But 9pm isn't too bad.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 06/07/2018 21:03

That’s fascinating OnlyBoy

Surely to goodness they wouldn’t put her on the board as Mrs. A Ohanian if she won, even Mrs Williams is wrong if that isn’t her preferred title Shock

Raahh · 06/07/2018 21:10

Mr you would think they would at least compromise with 'Ms'.

Especially as she hasn't taken her husband's name.

Raahh · 06/07/2018 21:12

Pat Cash on TAW looks like he has just woken up Grin.

Raahh · 06/07/2018 21:17

The scheduling people at Wimbledon have been kind to me- Nadal's match starts at 1pm tomorrow. Grin.

Now, he just needs to do his bit, and finish before the football, so I don't have to fight with my husband over the telly.

Raahh · 06/07/2018 21:19

(I do like De Minaur a lot though- he has a good future. Just not the fourth round at Wimbledon this year, I hope . Sorry Alex).

Ah phew here you are, thought I'd lost you all!
I've had a brief foray onto the World Cup boards, got scared and am rapidly retreating back here. This thread is so much gentler :)
Is it just me or have there been less really thrilling matches this year? They all seem to have been a bit one sided even those where there's been a upset. I was hoping Struff could at least have taken a set off fed today but no.
Tomorrow's matches look great but we have a family party and as the favourite aunt Wink I will miss all the sport on sandpit and teatime duty. Wimbledon timings have not been working well for me this year.

Raahh · 06/07/2018 21:27

Lady Grin Stay away from the football!

Wimbledon timings are going to be all wrong for me next week. So I will make the most of tomorrow.
I was hoping Struff would put up more of a fight but it was not to be.

We got a bit caught out by the last thread, so couldn't link. Sorry.

(will be more organised in future).

Raahh · 06/07/2018 21:31

I know Claire Balding is not everyone's favourite person, but I love how much she loves Monfils Grin.

I wish TAW had shown the clip of Mannarino giving the towel to the fan, but of course, it focused, as usual, on Serena. Why? The top players don't really need the highlights programme to be all about them- it should show things that people (who don;t have access to the red button ) didn't see. IMO, anyway. No doubt others disagree.

Grin
JaneJeffer · 06/07/2018 21:34

lady yes it's much safer here. There seems to be an awful lot of aggressive people around lately ready to jump down people's throat for the daftest things. I've given out to two of them on another thread because it's just so rude Blush

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 06/07/2018 21:36

Raahh I'm sure they used to do a round-up of funny/sweet bits before. They don't seem to bother anymore.

OP posts:
Raahh · 06/07/2018 21:42

They did show Miranda playing swing ball. Which was funny.

I remember the Sport relief(or was it Children in Need) thing that Miranda did , where she ended up with Goran- that was funny.

But of course, no -one likes Miranda on MN either .Grin

JaneJeffer · 06/07/2018 21:48

I remember that Raahh Grin

Raahh · 06/07/2018 21:50

Jane if my memory isn't playing tricks, I think they filmed it at the 02. But I'm not sure . It was very funny. I liked the Andy Murray 'outnumbered' one as well.

And he is now, with a wife and 2 daughters Grin.

magimedi · 06/07/2018 21:59

BBC have to show the top players on the highlights as the program is aimed at those who have not had a chance to see any of the matches all day.

I'm going to give a 'YAY' for Serena. Shock

There is a lot about her I don't like, such as her altercation with the line judge at the US Open, but there is a lot about her I do like.

She didn't ask to be seeded but was. So she has set a precedent for women returning from having children and making it equivalent to maternity leave. Good.

She had a child (& a very difficult birth) only 8/9 months ago & has come back to the top level of her career.

Should we not be celebrating some of her achievements rather than always putting her down? Is she not something of a role model for women?
