Please tell me theres other people out there also still overly invested in TTOI who want to swap theories/swear a lot/discuss trivia? 🤞🤞

Checking in!

My work brings me into contact with Westminster types, and I spend far too much time despairing about how like TTOI it is.

myrtleWilson · 29/06/2018 23:19

yup.... I laughed a lot about DOSAC and woodland fairies (I deal with ODPM/DCLG/MHCLG a lot in real life)

Colabottle10 · 29/06/2018 23:30

I fucking love it. The omnishambles, from bean to cup you fuck up, face like Dot Cotton licking piss off a nettle.

argumentativefeminist · 29/06/2018 23:34

As a future Prime Minister (or more likely civil servant) it absolutely makes me laugh out loud 😂 Just hope I wont be like Terri! My biggest theory is about the child we see in Malcolms house window after his forced resignation (just after "mind the hedge!). Secret son? Nephew? Sam's son and they're living together in blended family blissfullness (🤞🤞)?

The Thick of It was just made for today's politics, with Brexit and Trump etc. I really think they couldn't have made that up. I really wish it was still on - it was perfect television.

argumentativefeminist · 29/06/2018 23:35

Will never stop arguing that Nicola is a feminist masterpiece. So relentlessly relatable and normal.

I quite like Terri. Far more sensible than the spads and takes no shit.

Best line is the minister who's job is as 'secure as a hymen in south London comp'.

And 'fuck off, oxbridge' is a regular insult in our house

affectionincoldclimate · 29/06/2018 23:55

A massive TTOI fan (actually more accurately addict) here. It is the smartest, sharpest funniest thing out there. I rewatched it all last year and the final speech by Malcolm to the enquiry stayed with me forever. Watch it again. Apart from Capaldi basically outacting every actor ever also delivers a blistering and prescient (as TTOI often js) challenge to modern culture and politics. Apart from that, it's hilarious and I use TTOI phrases daily and rejoice in it.

From the one liners like "They'll be on you like pigeon on a chip" to "Fuck it. I'm going for a twix!" to my personal fave which is less obvious but ridiculously funny: "to "put the tiny kettle on, I'm gaspin"

BonnieF · 30/06/2018 00:03

It was wonderful stuff.

The scary thing is that the utter dysfunctional chaos in the current government makes TOI look tame...

RumbleMum · 30/06/2018 00:36

It was just brilliant - I've rewatched it recently and it's frightening how much more realistic it seems now.

Argumentative I don't remember that scene but Malcolm did have a niece that he mentions in one episode and he had kids' drawings in his office which were presumably hers - it's reasonable to assume he might have had a nephew too.

It's not that I'm overinvested in the character, oh no. Smile

RumbleMum · 30/06/2018 00:40

Best quote ever: "Allow me to pop a jaunty little bonnet on your 'purview' and ram it up the shitter with a lubricated horse-cock."

balljuggla · 30/06/2018 00:44

Oh God, I love TTOI! I rewatch it all the time...if I need something on in the background it's usually the one I choose. You can see it over and over again and it's still hilarious. Certain lines have become phrases in our house too..."solid bed of cunts"..."fuck you all up the wrong'un"..."Mr Tick-ELL"..!

TheNavigator · 30/06/2018 00:46

'Christ on a bendy bus, don't be such a fucking faff-arse' is a wee motivational speech I frequently give myself when I am dithering.

argumentativefeminist · 30/06/2018 08:08

"Feet off the furniture, you Oxbridge twat, you're not on a punt now." is probably my favourite and has soothed me through the relentless privileged misogyny of some of the guys on my Politics degree 😂 does anyone think there's actually a something between Oli and Dan Miller? Was watching that episode yesterday.

tribpot · 30/06/2018 08:10

A friend of mine mentioned yesterday he's doing a rewatch of TTOI and I am compelled to join in. Scarily accurate based on my dealings with government departments!

argumentativefeminist · 30/06/2018 08:13

@tribpot Do it!! I genuinely can't watch the last two episodes though because I'm too emotionally invested in Malcolm 😂

God I love it and rewatch every year.
"Tickety fuckety boo" is my refrain of choice. Grin

argumentativefeminist · 30/06/2018 08:19

Julius' "YOU.... are a naughty bastard" is one of my favourites too 😂

I may have to rewatch thanks to this thread GrinGrin

redexpat · 30/06/2018 08:41

I'll be with you in 2 shakes of a crying baby is the line that stands out for me.

BertrandRussell · 30/06/2018 08:42

One of my abiding sadnesses is that dp won't watch it, even though he's love it, because he doesn't like the swearing! I have to watch it with my children instead....

whatashower · 30/06/2018 09:09

Another huge fan here. I am blown away by the endeavour and craft in each and every episode. The flow of dialogue is astonishing. Could watch forever. Huge respect for Armando, Peter Capaldi and everyone involved.

argumentativefeminist · 30/06/2018 09:28

Favourite characters? Obviously Malcolm, but who else?

Fuckety bye

I think this in my head every time I wind up team meetings

peony87 · 30/06/2018 09:44

Fuckety bye is fabulous Jonny. Similarly 'come the fuck in, or fuck the fuck off'. I say it in my head so very often.

I feel so sorry for Glen. I presume he's done nothing outside politics, yet can't make it as an MP. No wonder joining the LDs in coalition seemed like a good career move
