I wonder were they eating out a lot because no way could he survive on 1000 cals a day, he'd be exhausted surely.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/07/2018 21:33

They had a really nice dog though. They might not want kids.

jay55 · 19/07/2018 22:24

Iโ€™m sure on the days he was having a ginsters for lunch he was having more calories.
Plus when he said one packet of crisps on his food diary he probably meant 5.

pennycarbonara · 19/07/2018 23:23

Liked these two - they are both childlike rather than the situation where one partner is childlike and the other is annoyed by that. They've known each other since school and they still look like they have fun in each other's company. It seemed like they were finding joy in experiencing new things rather than feeling embarrassed, and surely that has to be good.

The baked eggs seemed like a bit of a faff, baking paper and the oven - just chuck similar stuff in a frying pan and make a Spanish omelette. But it did look nice.

I'm sorry is there anyone in the whole world who sees chopping fruit and veg as a joy

Yes, it can be quite meditative. Not onions though! I know quite a few people who enjoy cooking as a process. Don't think it's that unusual. Can be a chore if you have to every day though - better to batch cook and freeze.

sproodlemummy · 20/07/2018 08:40

@Graphista thanks for your reply, maybe I was being a bit sensitive, but having heard all of the "have you just tried this" over several years I've come to the understanding that there is very little you can actually do to control what goes on inside you. Yes a good balanced diet will help anyone, but I don't think it alone will cause/solve any fertility issues.

Also I'm sorry to hear about your prior 2 mc's that must have been very hard Flowers

Unfortunately no we haven't got our family yet, however this 4th cycle has given us 6 frozen embryo's whereas our other cycles i've barely been able to create 2 good embryo's worth transferring, so we're far from getting our family but we're not out of the game just yet
xx

I want to like these programs but they always feel so dumbed down! One of my biggest bugbears too is when chefs or food experts ask really basic questions to the tv show โ€˜expertโ€™ or on other shows when a medical doctor asks another โ€˜expertโ€™ a really basic question. Would love to know if they truly stick to it or if they slip back to old ways quickly

pennycarbonara · 20/07/2018 13:04

It's to make it sound less patronising to the public I think.

Is the dietitian new on this series? The earlier ones had more screen presence and made things seem a bit more fun.

Ingurr · 20/07/2018 15:43

I think for people who work long hours it's easy to live on snack food. I remember a female MP saying she had received a letter from her gas supplier because she hadn't used any gas. She had never used her gas cooker.

Graphista · 20/07/2018 17:36

Sproodle - no problem! You're allowed to be sensitive! It just honestly wasn't my intention to upset anyone. Nutrition is but one factor in many.

I wish you all the luck in the world in getting your family, here's hoping 4th times the charm Flowers

raisedbyguineapigs · 20/07/2018 17:53

I'm one episode behind. I was surprised at how well the dad was considering how much coke he drank. They weren't a rich family despite being on 4 wages. The boys had quite low paid jobs. The ยฃ21k they spent on food would probably be more than a kitchen porters wage. When if they leave home they'll be stuffed financially if they don't believe stick to the home cooking. The parents were doing them no favours at all not making them cook in the first place. From that one episode they do seem to be concentrating a bit more on health as well as cost.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/07/2018 19:47

Finally seen the end

So the water and bubbly fooled them ๐Ÿ˜‚

They should have tried Lidl bubbly. Bout ยฃ6

They did seem happy and in love and enjoyed each otherโ€™s company

Diet and ivf. I do have to agree. The 4 rounds that I was so good as in lots of protein and veg - no drinking - Brazil nuts - eggs - pineapple - as many say on ivf boards And worked for them

Did bugger all for me

The last /5th ivf we did straight after holiday where we drank tons every day - ate lots of cheese and fish as well as crisps and chocolate and pudding most days - was the one that worked

So yes diet can help with ivf and concieving - but not the be all and end all

I find it quite therapeutic actually!

longwayoff · 24/07/2018 20:13

No way that guy was living on 1000 calories a day. She is air crew presumably she eats at work. Dont recall his job but I expect a ginsters or something and chips featured daily. I assumed that was why there were pretty much only snacks in the house.

raisedbyguineapigs · 24/07/2018 20:36

I'm watching this now. He must be eating 1000 calories but just in crap because he wasn't obese. My mum is very slim and eats crap, but she won't actually sit down to eat a meal. If he was eating a ginsters and a meal dh he would be much bigger I would think. He must be incredibly constipated though!

longwayoff · 24/07/2018 22:11

But 1000 calories isnt enough to sustain weight is it? Especially for an average sized man? Surely he should be absolutely scrawny?

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 25/07/2018 00:25

I agree if he was on 1000 calories a day over a sustained period of time he would be seriously underweight, he is not he is just normal as this picture shows, so he must have either been untruthful or forgotten to list what he had eaten,or did not list the food he was eating outside of the home. I enjoyed this episode, they seemed a genuinely nice couple, clueless but nice!

Licencedtodrill · 25/07/2018 06:36

I completely agree- there's no way he was consuming as little as 1000 calories a day- they mentioned that was the normal intake for a toddler and yet didn't challenge him on that at all! The presenters and dietitian should have picked that up immediately.
Also, was slightly confused as to what their new weekly spend on food was at the end of the episode? I thought Greg said ยฃ70 something- is that average for a couple or higher than normal?

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/07/2018 06:42

I feed us both from waitrose for ยฃ40-45 a week, All fresh, no junk food.

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/07/2018 06:43

I buy f and v in aldi though.

mydogisthebest · 25/07/2018 07:43

Me and DH spend about ยฃ40 a week. That's all fresh and no meat or fish as we are vegetarian.

We mainly shop in Sainsburys but occasionally in Tesco or Asda. We buy masses of fruit and veg but try and buy as much of that as we can in local market

BarbaraofSevillle · 25/07/2018 09:01

Licenced I think they said it was slightly above average (ยฃ70 vs ยฃ65 maybe), but as long as they can afford it, I don't see an issue. They weren't like all others previously in the show, who had been spending well above average levels and not being able to afford what they were spending and perhaps wasting a lot and relying on brands too much due to a misguided perception that they were better, when the champagne example and the show repeatedly shows, often aren't so people are just throwing money down the drain.

I suppose it was interesting that they varied the format slightly, but their cluelessness was slightly unbelievable. Fair enough not cooking because you don't want to, prefer takeaways and ready meals, or in her case, being air crew, maybe eating at work a lot, but no-one is that clueless surely?

Hopefully being on the show will get both of them cooking more, so they enjoy their food more - a lot of ready made stuff really is grim compared with home made, and are healthier in the long term.

raisedbyguineapigs · 25/07/2018 09:17

Actually yes you're right. He be thin if he was eating 1000 calories. He must be only slightly over the RDA

Licencedtodrill · 25/07/2018 09:18

I completely agree- we eat entirely home cooked food, my children don't like the taste of ready meals!
And the money really wasn't an issue in this episode.
I do enjoy this series but find myself wondering why the families featured seem to be completely blind to the issues that are glaringly obvious to everyone else!

raisedbyguineapigs · 25/07/2018 09:22

I think you must just get into a habit. I'd imagine her being air crew their time together is erratic If she's v away and he can't be bothered to cook for one is easy to get into the habit of eating takeaways. I kind of see how they have got into that habit more than families with children, as having children usually involves change in terms of priorities and finances.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/07/2018 18:59

Can jo and DENISE make home cooked meals in tonightโ€™s episode
