Ahh I think people are being really hard on Alex, I don’t see the arrogance personally. But that might be because I fancy him.
I don’t particularly like Rosie but I do feel for her. She was left with no choice but to pick Adam at the last recoupling, after he’d been a dick to her once. He made an effort to act like he really liked her after that, and she shouldn’t have fallen for it but hey she did. She had literally just had the wanking/fingering night with him which again, probably a bit stupid of her but I think he probably pushed for it. Then literally the next day a new girl walks in and he’s instantly an arsehole to her, gaslighting her and telling her it’s her fault, she’s being arsey, she’s pushing him away etc, and Zara’s there egging him on with the ‘nasty Rosie, pushing you away like that’ conversations, then he’s all over Zara right in front of her, ignoring the fact she’s upset and just blaming her for it, acting like her understandable upset is further justification for him to be like her. He told Zara and others it was over with him and Rosie but didn’t have the decency to have that conversation with her.
I wished he’d picked Kendall the first time, but don’t think it’s comparable. Kendall had known him a couple of days, only had a couple of snogs with him and still very much had her guard up. Yes Rosie was a twat there too, but he was the bigger twat. And he’s just been so cruel and almost amused by her being upset and hurt - I don’t think she’s overreacting necessarily because that smug smirk and gaslighting would send me insane too.
This is my first love island experience (apart from the first celebrity one of which I only remember Calum Best being HORRIFIED at Rebecca Loos farting and Bomhead from holly oaks going completely batshit for some reason). I’m loving it but I’m also feeling a bit sick after each episode, it’s like compulsively eating junk food - knowing you’re going to feel gross after but not stopping yourself! I hate the way the men seem to have all the power, even when the girls get to choose it doesn’t seem like they get a real choice (maybe only Megan when she picked?) and if a girl doesn’t give the boy in her couple exactly what he wants and be all over him she’s punished for ‘holding back’ but it’s fine for the boys to be all full on and ‘I’m falling for you’ yet the second a new girl comes in it’s supposed to be totally understandable and fine they get their ‘heads turned’, hey it’s only naturL innit? Poor Wes being forced to spend all that time with Laura, and her being so ancient and everything (!!) not like he knew her age when he was telling her he was on the same page, wanted the same thing and could see them living together is it? Obviously he’s entitled to drop her like a ton of shit and ignore her when a younger model comes in.
We need some decent, older, viable options of men to come in and give the girls a bit of choice and power back. Is it always like this - very much in the boy’s hands, or is it likely to change over the series?
Also Samira seems much more fun on the highlights shows, and in general there seem to be more interesting/general conversations shown there beyond the constant ‘where my heads at’ navel gazing we get on the main show.
