Handmaids Tale, Season 2: SPOILERS / VIEWING AHEAD OF UK SREENING

I'm starting a thread for those of us watching Season 2 and who want to discuss ahead of its screening in the UK.

So far I've watched the first 3 episodes.

God the 1st episode was grim.

The Reddit spoilers for Episode 13 linked above reveal a couple of things about Eden.

Hope ep 13 see's them all escape including June i don't get why she keeps fannying about wasting time like she did in the house in ep 12 and she's probably gonna do the same in this next one too RUN WOMAN!!!

Also, June is in love with nick but has a husband on the outside. That’s gonna be an awkward reunion because it wasn’t just about getting pregnant (I know it’s more complicated but come on, it’s not going to be staightforwRd)

Going to have to get home early Wednesday now in order to start watching episode 13 at 5pm so we can watch the football at 7pm.

If it goes to penalties I won't be able to stay up that late if it's 1.5hrs long.

Small world problems

She won't go back to Luke, flamingo, she can't. Too long, too much has happened, and Luke was too lazy about the formation of Gilead to start with and then has been safe in Canada through her nightmare.

Luke is her rock and they have Holly now. Her goal is to rescue Hannah and get her safe to Luke, but her dream now is to make a family with Nick. Whether they will...

Oh I hope. They all deserve that. And Gilead MUST at leat start to fall in S3.

I’m wondering if the reason they haven’t shown any flashback scenes yet for Aunt Lydia is because we’re going to get a shock about her, that she’s not what we all think she is. Perhaps she was an abortion doctor or gay? And she’s paying for it and saving her own life by being an evil witch to women just like her? Just a theory..

I think aunt Lydia may have been a midwife. Possibly lesbian but secretly so, she would be dead or in the colonies if anyone knew.

The new commander's wife interests me a lot!

By staying (to hopefully free Hannah) could June be in danger of further indoctrination and become a parallel to Aunt Lydia’s character?

Oh god I hope not Bobby, that'd be an awful direction to take things 😕 better to just fill out Aunt Lydia's story...

I think the massively zealous religious thing is a big part of AL - either that stems from guilt (like thinking she caused the baby's death, being blamed and then offered a way of salvation by being an Aunt) or she was a nun or similar religious figure and twisted it into Gilead's thinking to save herself from the wall. Presumably older women wouldn't have been taken from religious roles to become handmaids - they'd have just been killed.

Of course the other option is that she's just a twisted religious nut job and likes the power of her role as an Aunt. I hope it's not that simple though! Would explain some stuff though, because a lot of her cruelty (particularly the mental cruelty) towards 'her girls' has been so vile it transcends just Gilead rules and becomes properly disturbing.

New (final) episode drop (Hulu in US) tonight at Midnight EDT!!

That's 9 pm tonight for US West Coast.

I do hope June gets out. It would be a whole series just for her to try and begin to recover from what has happened.
