I'm starting a thread for those of us watching Season 2 and who want to discuss ahead of its screening in the UK.

So far I've watched the first 3 episodes.

God the 1st episode was grim.

Thank you Ham

It does make sense that the family were caught and questioned to find out who the people smuggler was. Maybe that's why the guardians didn't go to their home to catch Offred - they just went straight to the air field to bust the operation red handed.

Horrible ending anyway.

AcrossthePond55 · 04/05/2018 13:30

But we don't know that they didn't go to their home, do we? There's enough time lapsed for them to have done so. June started her journey in the afternoon and it was dark when the catchers showed up. Plus they probably sent a party to the home and a party to the airfield.

My cousin says she thinks the man in the plane with June was the Eye who fathered her child. I say it wasn't.

Aridane · 04/05/2018 14:45

Oh, I thought it was. But was watching in an iPad so probably am not best placed to judge

Ariadne I put it down to the fact that they didn't act like they knew each other. June was visibly nervous when he appeared out of the dark, she never relaxed once she saw him clearly, and she didn't say anything to the pilot like 'I know him' or whatever. There wouldn't have been any reason for them to act like they didn't know each other at that point (IMO).

I was watching on a TV and they did look alike. He said he was a 'driver' for some other name (not Waterford).

Now you're making me doubt myself Grin

Off to look up a synopsis!

macnab · 04/05/2018 15:08

No it definitely wasn't Nick in the plane with her, she'd have made eyes with him etc. It must have been some other person who'd arranged to escape.

sonjadog · 04/05/2018 20:04

No, it wasn't Nick. I was a bit disappointed by the end of episode 3. I would be more interested in her escaping and working to rescue others from outside. I think it will be a bit tedious if its back to the same old at the Waterford house.

FrankiesKnuckle · 04/05/2018 20:16

Sorry to jump on this but could anyone tell me when it starts on UK tv please?

Aridane · 04/05/2018 20:20

I think someone said October

OP posts:
Aridane · 04/05/2018 20:20

Ah, that was Praisebe who said that

OP posts:
HamAndTomato · 04/05/2018 21:12

According to Google it starts in May in the UK, so not too long to wait for UK people.

Praisebe · 04/05/2018 21:29

The guy on the plane definitely wasn't Nick but whoever he was i wonder why he wanted to escape ? Maybe he committed a crime against his employers and fled ? He met such a gruesome end though

andadietcoke · 04/05/2018 21:42

I'd hoped she'd escape and then the rest of it will be about trying to get Hannah out. I'm not looking forward to what they'll do to her in the next episode.

sonjadog · 04/05/2018 21:44

I'm hoping there will be a twist somewhere and they won't take her off and lock her up/ torture her/ etc. If they do, I might stop watching as I find the violence is getting a bit tedious tbh. I want more storyline, more drama.

OohMavis · 05/05/2018 10:03

I think we're all expecting her to be horrifically abused so they won't go down that path.

We know so so little about the world she's in that anything could happen at this point.

AcrossthePond55 · 05/05/2018 23:22

I think the Waterfords will have a great deal of say in what happens to her. Cmdr Waterford (IIRC) is a 'person of importance' in Gilead and he has an emotional bond with June. Won't go so far to say he's 'in love' with her, but he certainly had an attachment. Serena Joy will have no choice but to go along with what her husband says despite her personal feelings.

I'm thinking there will be threats to put the fear of God into June and perhaps some type of imprisonment, but that she will be 'rescued' and 'taken home' to the Waterford's.

Spamalotta · 05/05/2018 23:24

Ah! Where are you watching it? I loved series 1 and can't wait for 2. I'm in UK but haven't seen a start date??

HamAndTomato · 06/05/2018 06:07

I think most of us are not in the UK Spamalotta. I’m in NZ and we’ve had 3 episodes streamed here so far. It starts in the UK sometime in May I think.

Aridane · 06/05/2018 07:41

Am in UK and watch from, ahem, streaming sites

I think the driver worked for a Commander Wells.

Horrid that June got so close to escaping. Can't see them just letting her go home to the Waterfords. Also they may well be blamed for not making her obedient enough. He's important certainly but there are bound to be the usual political goings on.

RowenaDedalus · 06/05/2018 07:56

There's a trailer for the next episode which....

Shows her locked up at speaking to aunt Lydia and also shows her back at the Waterfords and tellingMrs Waterford 'if my baby is safe, your baby is safe'. I'm so gutted that she's back to square one and also really sorry for that nice family who took her in who are now probably god knows where.

sonjadog · 06/05/2018 08:27

I´m watching on HBO Nordic.

Ugh that she ends up back at the Waterfords. Although I do have a bit of a soft spot for the Commander, as wrong as that is.

hushnowthanks · 09/05/2018 10:29

I think Season 3 will focus on June’s escape and a subsequent war between Gilead and Canada/the UN. Part of me is excited that the series has been renewed for yet another season, but I’m hoping they don’t drag it out for the sake of viewing figures. I love it when a series ends but leaves you desperate for more!

Any predictions on Aunt Lydia and her back story?

MynameisJune · 09/05/2018 10:52

I’ve loved the second series so far, was half expecting the ending of episode 3 as it was too earlier and too easy.

I’m expecting some twists within Gilead, there are previews around Serena Joy and her back story.

It’s very intense watching though, the whole team from actors to directors and production are doing a fab job.

I do hope they don’t drag it out though, that the story comes to a natural end and not just years of the same stories dressed up differently.

andadietcoke · 09/05/2018 15:29

I wonder if Nick is still at the Waterfords'. I hope so, because surely he'll be able to help get her out again given his position.
