Aridane · 03/05/2018 12:09

I'm starting a thread for those of us watching Season 2 and who want to discuss ahead of its screening in the UK.

So far I've watched the first 3 episodes.

God the 1st episode was grim.

Sorry meant ep12!

HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 04/07/2018 15:51

I tried the fb link and it isn't working. Has it been taken down, or just my computer?

Cannot wait for the finale Grin

OohMavis · 04/07/2018 17:40

What the FUCK is wrong with Serena?! Why does she blow hot and cold like this?

Why did Eden's death affect her more than helping her husband rape someone?

Ugh ugh ugh.

autumn57565 · 04/07/2018 18:25

I suppose Serena sees her 'daughter' in Eden and fears for girls' futures after seeing the true brtuality of the Gilead she's created.

I've just read the spoiler for next week. Holy shit.

autumn57565 · 04/07/2018 18:31

Also, many parents say something changes when they become a parent. I'm not one so I wouldn't know, but I've heard people say things which never affected them before really made them think and even upset them after having a child. Maybe that's what's happening with Serena (even though Holly isn't hers, but you know).

AcrossthePond55 · 04/07/2018 19:00

The scene with Eden and Nick where he was practically begging her to give an excuse to save her life was so,so sad. And I was wondering, when the judge kept saying 'Ask for mercy' (or whatever it was) do you think he was offering them a real 'way out'? For Eden, perhaps the chance to become a Handmaid? I mean, as yet her fertility is unknown, why would Gilead 'throw away' a potential 'useable womb'? They could aways send her to the colonies should she prove 'unfruitful'.

And it looks to me as if Cmdr Lawrence does regret his role in Gilead and trying to make amends by taking in those he can who need saving. Emily, on her 'last chance' and his 'mouthy' Martha, who appears to be 'less than capable' of performing her duties. And although we haven't seen Gilead's attitude towards mental illness, I have a feeling he's also trying to protect his poor wife from being 'dealt with', Gilead style.

I don't know what's going on with Serena. I'm beginning to think she has some sort of multiple personality disorder the way she changes her attitude towards June. And I'm sure June knows better than to trust her!

Fred 'coming on' to June made me want to puke! But I do like the fact that he knows Holly/Nichole isn't his and that he doesn't dare say anything to anyone, including having to keep the charade going with Nick. Fred knows his entire position, and probably his life, depends on it. He's truly caught by the 'short hairs'!

I can't wait for the finale! I'm not ready for 'spoilers' yet so I'll be reading this thread with one eye closed for awhile. We'll see how long I can hold out!!!

I’d always been a feminist but not really to any huge degree. After having my DD my perception of the world changed completely and I saw/see the divide and the dangers for our young women much more clearly now. And it terrifies me the sexism and misogyny that’s still rife today. I know loads of other Mums have felt the same thing.

I guess they wanted to show this happening to Serena as well, that huge change a baby makes in you. The baby might not be here’s biologically but she has sure as hell tried hard enough to convince herself it is.

autumn57565 · 04/07/2018 19:31

Promo for next week

BG2015 · 04/07/2018 21:14

Emily's Commander seems a bit weird. Can't work out how that storyline is going to pan out.

Gilead is a totally fucked up place that murders kids just for being in love. I so, so want it the regime to fall.

Decided not to watch any of the major spoilers. One more episode Sad

MynameisJune · 04/07/2018 21:27

Just watched the latest episode. Such a good episode, I like Emily’s new set up I think that’s going to provide an interesting storyline.

I think the Eden/Isaac thing is the catalyst to finally waking Serena up to what she has helped create. She’s finally seeing that other women aren’t her competition/enemy. The men are.

autumn57565 · 04/07/2018 21:53

What actually happened to Nick?

Aridane · 04/07/2018 22:42

Cmdr Lawrence seems a sick fuck

Aridane · 04/07/2018 22:45

Oh, Eden, Eden, Eden - finally Nick wishing he had shown her some kindness.

Would their lives had been spared if they had asked for forgiveness? Or does the regime just want confession before execution?

Aw - Eden’s Mum and younger sister

And June rolling her eyes when Eden spoke about love

Aridane · 04/07/2018 23:04

Fuck me, gu - just read the opening post of the reddit spoiler thread!

Anyone have any other trailers- like the Israeli or Russian ones for previous episodes which show additional scenes?

OP posts:
WitchSharkadder · 04/07/2018 23:21

They’re not released until about 9pm (UK time) tomorrow, Aridane

Aridane · 04/07/2018 23:34

Thank you

And June rolling her eyes when Eden spoke about love

She did, Aridane but then she also told her to 'grab love wherever she could find it' or words to that effect. I wonder if it will occur to June that those words might have been the catalyst to Eden and Isaac's escape attempt?

FairfaxAikman · 05/07/2018 06:04

God, that scene of Serena trying to feed Holly/Nicole herself was creepy.
If someone tried to do that to my child I'd tear them apart.

Snappedandfarted2018 · 05/07/2018 07:07

She roll her eyes in horror when she meantion love as she told to get it where she could and the next day she was gone. June felt particularly responsible.

HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 05/07/2018 08:08

Would their lives had been spared if they had asked for forgiveness?

I think they would have got a lesser punishment. Eg the adulterous wife in the colonies. I don't think they would have escaped some kind of serious punishment

SerenaWaterford · 05/07/2018 09:40

Does it come out tonight?

lalascribbles · 05/07/2018 10:00

Gosh that was difficult viewing.

Does any one else never cry watching it, I feel sick to my stomach instead. During the pool scene I felt physically sick.

Think that Emily's story is becoming more interesting, definitely looking forward to seeing what happens with her (have read Reddit thread) and to hopefully see her in season 3. I'm a massive Gilmore Girls fan and I mean obsessively so. I think Alexis Bledel has been excellent, and it's not been weird at all seeing her in such a different role.

Helloflamingogo · 05/07/2018 10:09

Loved this episode - finding the whole “real Mum is best” thing a bit...odd though. Clearly rape and forced surrogacy is horrific and beyond comprehension. But the breast feeding thing, well I “got” it. The scene was terribly sad, not creepy for me. Serena is realising she can’t fully provide for the child she calls hers.

I guess though I can’t helpnbut wonder about adoption and the like - because the show is making it seem like birth Mum is the only way of being a mum?

I guess I have to suspend that sort of thought for watching it as it’s so clearly not like adoption.

Does that make any sense? I can’t quite articulate it.

Eden made me cry.
