Handmaids Tale, Season 2: SPOILERS / VIEWING AHEAD OF UK SREENING

I'm starting a thread for those of us watching Season 2 and who want to discuss ahead of its screening in the UK.

So far I've watched the first 3 episodes.

God the 1st episode was grim.

"In Season 1, we left off not knowing what side she was on,” Amanda Brugel, who plays Rita, told V.F. “Was she in an allegiance with Gilead? Was she someone who would fight for humanity, [or] just trying to get by? In Season 2, we truly find out the answer to that question, and it’s shocking to me what the answer is. I felt like I knew where she was going, and then it took a hard left.”

Wonder which way she will go?

Hmm I feel like everyone would expect Rita to be on June’s side after this season especially the ‘godmother’ scene. So I think she’ll go the opposite way and be against June.

Kinda disappointed that when Aunt Lydia said 'Mrs Waterford' that it was only to say that the labour wasn't happening.

Rita didn't turn June in for the letters though, at great risk for herself. If she was fervently pro Gilead I doubt she would have taken that risk. I feel that if she was going to hurt June she would have done it then.

Maybe she reports Eden and Isaac though? Has she had much interaction with Isaac yet?

Or maybe her loyalty to the baby is manifested in a weird decision that she thinks is in baby's best interests in Gileadan logic, I'm struggling to think what though.

I would be surprised if quiet calm obedient Rita turned out to be in the resistance, or fled, or fought back though, I'm hoping it goes that way.

HHer son was killed in the fighting, we didn't fInd out which side he was on, Serena presumed Gilead side and I presumed USA side.

Interesting thought, Hopelessly. But I'd think that if her son fought on the USA side, his family (including her) would probably have been executed as 'examples' to others. Contrariwise, you'd think the mother of a 'fallen hero' of Gilead wouldn't have ended up as a Martha.

I think Rita is for Rita first and wouldn't intentionally involved herself in danger, but who wouldn't be like that? I wonder if something happens that really 'gets to her'.

They didn't show her seeing E and I kissing. But who knows?

Personally, if it IS Eden and Isaac in the pool, I think it'll be because Eden either informs on Nick and June, or threatens to, and Nick drops her in it to save himself and/or June.

Does no one think that Fred set up Nick? Do you honestly think he gave June a “treat” out of kindness / guilt? Haven’t watched the next trailer, don’t want to spoil it.

My current theory:
June manages to escape to Canada with the baby but is recaptured when she goes to get Hannah. It's her and nick in the pool.

Emily coming back and her commander dying is the path to the next story/series - at the Waterfords?

I'd like to say I hope something terrible would come of the Waterfords, but then it would only mean she was passed onto a new set of bastards so there's no winners in that scenario.

I think Eden and Isaac will get caught out while Nick is wherever he is and Eden lets her guard down. They'll get caught out by an aunt or Serena joy. Anyone notice the title of the next episode is "Holly" sounds like a baby name to me...

Or it's Nick and Eden in the pool because Nick was caught out where he shouldn't have been. Fred won't risk sticking up gor him so they'll probably kill him and Eden for been traitors and spys

Oh shit she's bleeding bad !! Will she loose the baby giving birth alone like that ?
Also i don't know why but i find that wolf so comical just standing there looking at June it looks so out of place but i think it's there to signify how close she is to the border

Birth is a bloody business. Especially if your waters don’t break early. Amniotic fluid mixed in makes it look like there’s a whole lot more blood than there really is.

I thought I hadn’t seen him say the one act of kindest. I love how serena acknowledge he raped her despite the fact they been raping continually for years as part of the “ceremony” she did not acknowledge of her act in it, they both raped her, not just Fred more so for serenas need for a child she pimped her out else where. I hope there’s some light at the end of the tunnel and nick managed to get back to the house with mayday and season 3 can focus on getting Hannah out of gilead and bringing them down.

Hasn’t SJ talked about being in season 3? I don’t think she gets killed off. If the actress is pregnant in real life I presume they’ll either write it in to the story somehow or they’ll hide it like loads of shows have done over the years.

I also don’t think they’ll kill June off, there really isn’t a show without Elizabeth Moss/June. I think I remember reading something from one of the producers about how they have a story arc for X amount of seasons and then the show will end. It isn’t going to be dragged out just for ratings.
