Handmaids Tale, Season 2: SPOILERS / VIEWING AHEAD OF UK SREENING

I'm starting a thread for those of us watching Season 2 and who want to discuss ahead of its screening in the UK.

So far I've watched the first 3 episodes.

God the 1st episode was grim.

Just finished episode 10. That was a hard watch! Any thoughts on what will happen to June? I suspect the baby will arrive any moment whilst she's alone at that house.

Looking at the preview and I noticed in the background was a garage with a car in it but she’s unable to get out of the garage. I think she will try and figure a way out. God knows what will happen to nick now Fred told him to make sure no one saw him so for they know he was up to no good.

Late to the thread but just finished ep9 on showbox and now the wait for 10 as it isn't on yet.

I quite enjoy the different ways they can say 'praise be' - it never seems to be said and genuinely meant!

I shouldn't be looking at this thread as I haven't watched episode 10 (but can't help myself)

I couldn't make out what June was doing at the end of the episode 11 trailer - was she firing a gun into the air or something?

Wow. What an emotional roller coaster!

This episode left me with questions (don't they all). Who are Hannah's 'parents' that Waterford has the power not only to command her presence, but to make them keep quiet about it? Was it just a coincidence that the guardians showed up? Does Nick realize what a powerful 'weapon' Eden has handed him if he wants to be rid of her? All he has to do is turn her in, she's 'Gilead' enough that I'm sure she'd spill her guts 'in confession' about the kiss rather than lie about it.

The rape to bring on the baby was so hard to watch. But I was told that if you wanted to bring a baby on that way, that it wasn't the sex per se, it was the contractions brought on by orgasm. It's been 30 years since my last baby, so I haven't really thought about it for years. In the same vein, I laughed out loud at Emily stomping on Cmdr Whozit's junk. Good for her!

As far as the preview (so SPOILERS) it looked like she was shooting a shotgun in the air, I assume to try to attract attention to be rescued. The way they edited the trailer with the gunshot coming after the car scene, it looks like whatever attempt to run she makes with the car is unsuccessful, but who knows?

Did anyone else notice the wolf in the trailer? If they were to be back in 3 hours, and it was a 10 minute visit. At around 90 minutes @ 50 mph avg she traveled about 75 miles. The wolf's (current) habitat pretty much ends at the Canada/US border so I'd assume she traveled north (unless the habitat has changed.. I'm not sure exactly where the Waterford's live, but I'm hoping she's close enough to the border to make a run for it!!!

Ok Serena. What's your exact address? I can google maps it to the border and give June the route for the GPS in that car!!!

I think they are in or near Boston. If she went 50 minutes north she is still 2 States away from Canada.

Although we don't know the border with Canada is in the same place as before. Only two States stayed USA (Hawaii, Alaska) but we don't know that all the others are Gilead. Some along the border might have joined Canada, others might have formed a separate breakaway state (remember when Serena said "which one?" Re the American official, maybe there are multiple countries rather than just Gilead and USA), some might be disputed, some remote areas might not be under anyone's control. So she might be closer to the border than we think (I hope!) although June probably won't know where she is and where is safe. Unless there is a helpful map in the house :)

Anyone else kind of wish Nick was their Husband 😂 he is such a good man.

Ok watched. And breathe. My eyebrow moment is June telling the commander that he isn’t the father. He pretty much knows this anyway from other suggestions I’ve seen but yet why does he not suspect Nick at all? The only other man with any access to June. Doesn’t seem to cross his mind at all.

Just finished watching. Poor, poor Hannah what must all of those separated kids think, I was in bits. How is this Gods way?

The rape scene was brutal and when Fred kissed Junes forehead in the car I physically shuddered.

Goodness knows where it's going to go next. I was not expecting Nick to be shot!

I don't think Nick is an exceptionally good man. He's just an ordinary man in the face of lots of hideous ones.

He is pretty hot though.

Or a GPS in that car. Plus, she wasn't blindfolded on the drive there. She may not know exactly, but she'd know approximately where she is based on road or directional signs (assuming they still have them). She may also know which direction she traveled and how long the drive.

All of which probably means zip unless she can get that car out of the garage!

Is she actually going to escape? Please let her.

He may very well do. But we don't know what would happen to the baby if it were discovered that he's not Fred's child. Perhaps the child would be taken away, and if so, perhaps his desire for Serena to have the child she desperately wants, and being a father enhancing Fred's own status, is what's keeping him quiet.

Besides, if what we suspect about male infertility is true, the last thing Fred would want would be to be responsible for blowing the lid off that particular powder keg! I mean, if they start looking too closely chances are that they'd find that a great number of Gileadean children were not fathered by the Cmdrs themselves. Remember the doctor who told June he'd 'helped' numerous Handmaid's to get pregnant?

why does he not suspect Nick at all?

He knows it is Nick, Nick told him when they were drinking in the study after Nick's wedding. They were doing some tense word play and Nick said "God willing, I'll have a child of my own soon, Sir", subtext referring to June's baby.
When he tried to transfer Nick away earlier he found Commander Price was protecting him, and realised Nick is likely an Eye.
If he makes it public it suggests Fred is infertile and can't control his household.
If he is clumsy in getting rid of Nick then Nick could report him for Fred's law breaking.
I doubt he suspects Nick was at all involved in June's escape though as he still tells him to drive her around. Perhaps he can't imagine someone taking such a personal risk for a woman.

AcrossthePond55 - They took down all the signs so that woman weren't 'tempted' to read them. Remember June and Mira's first escape attempt from the red centre.Their plan fell apart because they got lost then didn't know which train to take. They were expecting there to be signs but they'd all been removed while they were locked up.

That would be so much worse. There is no way you could resolve all those issues in 10 minutes 😭 I. am. broken.
