Anybody else watching it? I really want to like it but I am really not feeling it.

OP posts:

The garter thing was very subtle. I'm assuming her getting caught shoplifting will be a future storyline.

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/05/2018 09:06

I only caught up with ep 1 last night but enjoyed it, though it was a bit odd.

The matriarch is what I imagine MN's Xenia to be like!

Hannahs husband is employed by her boss to do some specialised work - neither her boss, her 'friendly blonde stalker' never mind her actual husband even tell her she has to find out by walking in on him. Doesnt she ever talk to her husband at home?

Her husband told her in the morning that he was coming to her office that day, Willow.

I love the messy house, it makes me feel right at home. People with families and immaculate houses in TV series make me feel totally inferior.

The80sweregreat · 03/05/2018 09:50

Maybe now the children are older Hannah hasnt any need for help at home anymore? her house is lovely though, i would want that place if i ever won the lottery.
i didnt notice the stealing - wonder why she does that when she isnt short of money - for the thrill of it i suppose, or mum kept them short of money as kids whilst building up her empire! they are all a bit unhinged.

Optimist1 · 03/05/2018 10:44

Thanks, Dulra - can't bear to miss anything that might prove to be significant in the future!

Dozer · 03/05/2018 16:12

The younger DC would need childcare, but perhaps they go to breakfast and after school club and the parents take turns mornings and evenings, on different days of the week. I know a “power couple” who do that 2 days each and have a nanny on a friday. On the days they’re not doing after school club pick up they often work late or attend work related drinks events and meals

Gwenhwyfar · 03/05/2018 20:17

" I also noticed the bit where she said she'd agreed to use his surname because he'd "worn her down"."

I thought that was a lie and she'd done it to differentiate herself from her mother and the family firm.

HasAnyoneGotAProblemWithThat · 03/05/2018 21:05

I’m not loving it. too many inconsistencies & stereotypes for me. If NW gets together with the Dutch guy or make him dad of the oldest I will probably switch off as it’s not imaginative. Loath Oscar, can’t make the mother out yet but not particularly likeable. Sister 3 is very damaged. Hope Meera screws ST over.

Gwenhwyfar · 03/05/2018 21:50

""unless they are his children and not hers? not been made clear about that has it? at first i thought she might be step mum set up maybe? "

I didn't see any indication that the kids weren't hers. "

Miss Eliza - 2/3 glasses of wine a day isn't good for you, but isn't indicative of a drink problem!

Davros · 03/05/2018 22:57

You wouldn't necessarily need blinds in NW's office as I think some of those buildings have some "treatment" on the windows.

GnotherGnu · 04/05/2018 07:30

I once worked in a newly converted office building with large windows which had supposedly been treated against glare. It was absolutely hopeless, particularly when the sun was low: the office was open plan, and people facing the windows had the glare straight in their eyes whilst those with their backs to the windows couldn't see their computer screen due to reflected glare. They ended up having to get blinds installed at great expense because the windows weren't a standard size.

Dozer · 04/05/2018 07:34

Xenia is on this very thread!

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/05/2018 08:00

Is she?? Oops...

Christie Carmichael is not the most Dutch name is it? But he's very attractive nevertheless, although the actor playing him is called Barry, which takes the shine off s little!

mirage937 · 04/05/2018 08:36

I searched the actor Barry and he looked very different on his ig when shaven and wearing glasses, I'd never believe it was the same person

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 04/05/2018 08:48

Yes, the father was just awful with all his wanky new age quotes, baby names for the youngest and “fully cooked” shite, and is only after the law firm. Unrealistic that a divorce lawyer would build up a firm for 30 years in which her ex had a massive stake.

I’m thinking that he will turn out to be not as bad as he has been made out and the reason he has a huge stake is a some kind of payoff tied to why he really left 30 years ago. IE he isn’t the baddie, the mother is, had an affair maybe and/or he found out the eldest daughter isn’t his.....or something like that Grin

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 04/05/2018 08:50

.....and the mother gave him the stake on condition he didn’t see the girls again......betcha

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/05/2018 09:19

@mirage937 you're right, I definitely prefer bearded Barry!

Id never believe they were even the same person

Jux · 04/05/2018 12:52

Judas yes, there is clearly a Big Fat Lie which has something to do with the dad's departure.

The mum seems to have completely dominated the girls, I had expected NW to say something awful but truthful and revealing when she made her speech at the birthday party, so was a bit floored when she didn't. For a few minutes I believed that the 4 of them really were a normal happy and successful family that they presented as (despite knowing damn well that they weren't anything of the sort).

HasAnyoneGotAProblemWithThat · 04/05/2018 13:24

normal happy and successful family
On a tv program- never Grin

The80sweregreat · 04/05/2018 14:06

Gosh, he does look different without the beard!

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/05/2018 20:31

Figured out where I've seen Nina before - she spent a lot of time shagging in Britannia!

Purplemond · 04/05/2018 20:43

she was in the film walking on sunshine too, it use to be DD2 favourite

The80sweregreat · 04/05/2018 21:47

Oh yes, walking on Sunshine a poundland Mammia Mia.
I still watched it tho..
