Anybody else watching it? I really want to like it but I am really not feeling it.

OP posts:
mydogisthebest · 24/05/2018 14:32

oldmum, I agree with your DH that Hannah was the first to have an affair. Of course that doesn't make Nathan having one ok

VanGoghsDog · 24/05/2018 14:36

Well, Hannah did have an affair - it's just as bad even if you're not married (whether you intend to marry or not), you don't "decide to commit" on the morning of your wedding!

Rollergirl11 · 24/05/2018 14:38

How did Rose manage to arrange that silent disco and venue for the same evening and have that amount of people available to make it at such short notice??!

Rollergirl11 · 24/05/2018 14:39

I know completely missing the point here but that vexed me! 😠

Loopytiles · 24/05/2018 15:17

Think the silent disco thing had already been booked.

The London transport system is super speedy and walking routes short in this show!

Hannah did have an affair first, which was obviously wrong, but Nathan is unaware and was years and years ago! Relevant that she’s still flirting with OM though.

BurningTheToast · 24/05/2018 15:43

I suspect that Nathan has spent much of their marriage knowing or suspecting that she settled for him even if he didn't know she'd slept with Christie.

And as he'd had this affair - assuming it was the first time he was unfaithful rather than just the first time he got caught - he'd also know that he wasn't in a position to kick off when she said that she was taking the job at Noble and Hale working with Christie when she left Defoes.

I still think eldest daughter might be Christie's although it's too late to introduce that to the plot now with one episode to go. But I can imagine the writer having that up her sleeve if a second series is commissioned.

I can tell I have a deadline as I'm spending my time analysing this rather than working!

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 24/05/2018 16:21

I did some googling to check how many years ago Wonderwall was released (since Christie danced to it with Rose the night before Hannah and Nathan's wedding). Sadly it doesn't help as it is 23 (23!)years old so it doesn't mean they were married 9 months (minus one day) before Liv was born

GnotherGnu · 24/05/2018 16:30

I'm rooting for something mega to emerge about Goldie's husband so she ends up with at least £100 million. I suspect Defoe's will fold and be taken over by Noble & Hale.

VanGoghsDog · 24/05/2018 17:10

Maybe Goldie will buy Defoes?

FawnDrench · 24/05/2018 18:00

Their father's looking increasingly frail - he might have a serious medical episode or even die in the last episode.
Or the mum might.
That would shake them up a bit..

I think it will be left open and not all the ends tied up (too many anyway) and leave us all dangling until the next series.

Purplemond · 24/05/2018 18:36

there seems so much to tie up in one episode

Gwenhwyfar · 24/05/2018 18:44

"The kids being upset brought back some painful stuff for me too."

Well it made me think because my reaction was why were they so upset at quite a normal argument with no terrible name calling or threats or anything?

Loopytiles · 24/05/2018 18:45

I interpreted it that they’d overheard about nathan’s infidelity.

Serial123 · 24/05/2018 18:47

That's interesting Gwen. For me that seemed a normal level of upset, growing up we always hated my parents arguing.

cherrytrees123 · 24/05/2018 18:48

There were a couple of lawyers on Woman's hour recently who said the whole thing is patently ridiculous. Many of the scenarios are not based on fact in law terms, they would never be allowed and would never happen. All these family members fighting for clients, one lawyer sleeping with her client , lack of disclosure , unprofessional behaviour and just procedures that aren't based on fact. You'd think the script writers would check wouldn't you? Lazy writing and production.

Loopytiles · 24/05/2018 18:51

Fun though!

cherrytrees123 · 24/05/2018 18:54

Yes...

Gwenhwyfar · 24/05/2018 18:56

"For me that seemed a normal level of upset, growing up we always hated my parents arguing."

Oh good, I'm not the only one then.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/05/2018 20:11

There seems a fair bit to wrap up in one episode.
So Christie has rejected Hannah, so she has a choice of making it work with Nathan or being single
What will happen to the Defoes debt?
What will Goldie discover about Davey?
What’s the story between the Mum & Anthony Head Dad. ( I think she paid him to stay away at every major event. Birthdays & graduations were mentioned.)
Big finale will be Rose’s wedding

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 24/05/2018 20:21

I'm still not convinced about Rose and James getting married.
She seemed pretty upset at him ending the engagement but didn't seem that interested in him, more in love with the idea of getting married.
There doesn't seem to be any passion, they are like good mates.

sayhellotothelittlefella · 24/05/2018 20:49

I didn’t think eldest DD was Christie’s but wouldn’t it be a plot twist if she was and when Nathan said ‘ you’ve been lying the whole time’ it was because he has known all along.
And the reason Zander wants to meet Hannah’s Mum all of a sudden is because he’s buying Dafoe’s. Also the comment about bdays and graduations was definitely to hint the dad had been paid to stay away.

HalleLouja · 25/05/2018 15:59

SM and NW have been married for 20 years I think and their DD is 16. So I don't think she is Christie's.

I am quite enjoying the show. Am sure its not a realistic representation of life as a family lawyer but I can suspend belief.

auntyflonono · 25/05/2018 20:21

Christie not wanting children with anyone but Hannah is a massive hint that the eldest daughter is his! Also, isn't Christian quite a Danish name?

Peartree17 · 25/05/2018 20:41

On a different telly addict point, watching Nicola Walker in this prompted me to fish out Unforgotten on Netflix. Fab! have only watched two episodes so far, but love it. Absolutely stellar cast. And has had me sobbing already (that might be hormones as well, though). Recommend it for those who don't know it.

Harrumph. As you were. Sorry to derail.

Never derailing to make telly addict recommendations!
