Escape to the Chateau: DIY

So, is anyone else completely addicted to this?
I loved Dick and Angel’s original series so decided to start watching the series where they help out others who have bought or are in the process of buying chateaux in France.
I’ve watched 8 episodes in 3 days Blush Anyone with me?

Thoughts so far: I love Jonathon and Michael and their absolutely stunning castle. I’ve been willing them on throughout these episodes and have even googled prices to stay at their castle. I hope the show brings lots of bookings their way.

I wasn’t keen on the male half of the first couple featured - the artist guy. I’m intrigued to see how they get on but was astonished that they were able to go so far above their initial budget. I wonder if the termites will be a bigger problem than they have so far envisioned.

The young married couple are lovely and very hard-working, but what were they thinking leaving the loo until the very last minute? Stress city.

The single mum was very impressive in her property development skills but i did think it was very disappointing that she still can’t speak any French even after living there for 5 years - the Mayor asked her to learn some French and she didn’t even attempt a tiny “Oui”!

I’ve spent the day googling properties to buy in France. Not even chateaux but 5 bed properties - oh my! Now to persuade my husband!

I’ve got very behind, just caught up with Monday’s show this morning. I was astounded at the foolishness of the ex-pop star. Firstly with the tractor battery and then with the bees - he’s just desperate to be on telly and show off his “wacky” personality.

How hot is Stefan the architect? And he managed to fix the big digger - ex-pop Star could learn a thing or two from him.

I missed Gwendoline and her 2 English boys this episode - I really, really hope they manage to make a huge success of their Chateau. She’s still clearly grieving deeply for her mum and I’d love all her hard work and investment to pay off.

I really hope they’re getting high enough viewing figures to continue for a few series - I love the thought of revisiting the chateaux over a few years and seeing exactly how they’ve been brought back to life.

readingis I missed the beginning of this series with Gwendoline and 2 boys? Some of the families disappear , the ones with the wild boar in their forest have gone!

Sorry Ppeat Gwendoline and the 2 boys are the wild boar ones. I can’t remember the blokes’ names and they seem quite young! She’s only early 20s and the brothers are a similar age, I think. And their chateau was the highest price I can remember Dick mentioning. (£1,000,050 - cos the 50 quid is the most important bit! Grin)

Oh Reading Funny how we see things! I thought that the wild boar family was a couple with the blokes's brother !

That ex pop star guy was very foolish to try to get rid of the bees himself, I'm not sure if he was killing them which is illegal in England I'm don't know about Fr. but they have banned nicotinoids because it's killing bees so they are aware of the problem.

Thanks flopsy Annoyingly it seems to have finished now , I was hooked! I missed the first few. Oh well hopefully they'll repeat it, they repeat everything!

We like the young couple and his brother. They are very sweet. We call them the 12 year olds with the chateau as we are old and jealous

Hello Katie thanks for that ! We live in a 'normal' sized house . Made in the medieval times with stones from the local chateaux. It's a bit of a money pit but no more than any other house!!

Are there going to be repeats of the DIY programmes? I did think with the Windsor wedding there would be plenty of people wanting to get married in a chateau (so great for the owners!) .

Ophelia Have you watched the programmes? There is a gay couple , a single woman with her mum and various other couples who aren't married or maybe if they are they don't make anything of it.

Well it's shorthand isn't it? Ophelia She didn't think about whether any of us are married or not , or to whom or whether we're trans or not etc. etc. a little nit picky IMO. See I'm assuming she's a she Grin

It's not being picky really...it's just annoying that the producer is assuming we're all married women on this site and that we'd need to persuade our husbands !
