I was watching this last night. I thought it was very good. The boys from The Doon School behaved very well, they were so polite and had a good work ethic, in relation to the boys from the UK, who seemed to think they can do what they want, and disrespect their elders. They will be in for a shock, when they go into the big wide world.

Just watched this. The moment of realisation on the lad who realised he was making the same mistake in poor friend choices.

I think the three who are getting on with it will do ok. They have ambitions, and it seems they just haven't had the necessary support to get them there.

Jake needs discipline. I think he could go either way.

Ethan is winding me up. He's very immature and self-centred.

I agree Teisan, I think its cultural, same way Asian countries value Education and hard work.

BBCK that is really good, that is half the battle won, same about the other half, which is the real problem.

I agree Teisan, I think its cultural, same way Asian countries value Education and hard work.

I live in one of those cultures and see it day in abd day out.

staydazzling · 30/03/2018 19:20

watching it now, virgin boxxed it. looks interesting so far, me and my DH were surprised they'd taken a very effeminate boy there, is that safe? considering they're less than progressive views towards homosexuality??

TeisanLap · 30/03/2018 20:56

were surprised they'd taken a very effeminate boy there, is that safe?

I think he'll be safe given the environment he's in despite the fact he's doing himself absolutely no favours at all.

I suspect the people around him for the most part will have good manners and treat him as a guest even though he is contrary to all they have experience of.

staydazzling · 30/03/2018 21:35

I certainly hope so

vjg13 · 31/03/2018 07:39

I do think other pupils will have phones/tablets but will be better at concealing them.

salsamummy · 06/04/2018 09:40

As one of the boys said "Jake is a dick"
I sopposed his mother will continue to finance him along with the state. Some poor Indian boy would have given his right arm to have that opportunity.

maxthemartian · 06/04/2018 10:46

Indeed. His attitude is absolutely awful, typical school bully.

TeisanLap · 06/04/2018 10:55

The way Jake entered the first meeting was dreadful. A person can only carry off that kind of Behaviour if they’re a psychopath.

He’s trouble with a capital T.

Chimchar · 06/04/2018 11:09

I've enjoyed watching too.
What struck me is how very lovely the staff are...firm but fair. Kind, gentle. Professional. Fair play to them.

staydazzling · 06/04/2018 12:07

not sure about psychopath just very arrogant maybe.

salsamummy · 06/04/2018 13:01

He just needs to grow up and not be such a mummy's boy. I think he is quite creative but needs to channel it in the right direction or it could go drastically wrong for him.

TeisanLap · 06/04/2018 15:14

not sure about psychopath just very arrogant maybe.

I know someone who's a psychopath and when Jack entered he room and behaved as he did I shivered because the person I know immediately came into my mind. It was like sitting beside him and listening to him. Then there was another bit later on in the programme and again I thought thats just what X would say. Also, a few things one off the other boys said is exactly what is said about the person I know. It was all just too uncanny.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 06/04/2018 17:15

It was really embarrassing watching Jake last night and his mum admitted she had never really disciplined him when he was growing up. And I'm a fairly liberal easy going sort.

How teachers put up with teens like him day in/day out I will never know, they deserve a knighthood. I wouldn't last an hour.

Hopefully he'll mature and turn out alright and then cringe watching this back ... or maybe not!

vjg13 · 06/04/2018 17:22

It didn't show any of Jake's phone calls with his Mum which maybe meant she wasn't exactly saying the right things to him.

I thought the head teacher looked a bit hysterical after the fight at the Pool!

maxthemartian · 06/04/2018 18:01

BigSandyBalls yes when she said maybe she should have disciplined him. You think?? What a disservice she did him with her approach.

errorofjudgement · 06/04/2018 18:32

I really cannot believe Jake’s Mum. Just one excuse after another.

Sadly I don’t think Jake will take any responsibility for his behaviour, and why would be when his mum’s there making life too easy for him.

epicclusterfuck · 06/04/2018 19:45

I think Jake should be taking responsibility for Jake's behaviour, not his mother, he is an adult.

errorofjudgement · 06/04/2018 20:55

Yes, at his age he is responsible for his behaviour. But, he’s a young adult who’s been constantly indulged, and never had to learn to behave appropriately or to take responsibility for his poor behaviour.
That’s down to his mum.

Thehamsterspajamas · 08/04/2018 13:53

Just seen both episodes on catch up. The Indian lads are just so mature and focussed and it showed up the immaturity and self-centred attitude of the uk lads. Jake and Ethan are particularly precious and self absorbed. In many countries and cultures, education is a way out and is highly valued as the Doon boys showed. I was really embarrassed and troubled by the uk lads. I hope some of them grow up and see a bigger picture to life than just them and their concerns and get the results they want. How the head and other staff kept their cool i just don’t know.

LittleRedTerfette · 12/04/2018 21:32

Jake and Ethan are twats, but I think the others lack focus and confidence.

I really am rooting for the young guy who keeps getting bullied

noblegiraffe · 12/04/2018 22:22

FFS after all that! None of them passed!

How can that be after 6 months of lessons and 1-1 tuition? No improvement?

BigSandyBalls2015 · 12/04/2018 22:48

I was amazed at that!!
