He was an arse on the music thing!

The who do you think you are prog was really sad. He never knew his mother because she spend a lot of her life comminted to a mental institution.

They couldn't know for sure, but there was strong evidence to show that she had some form of break down following the birth of a baby sister, who died at a few days old.

The family never mentioned any of it, and he was totaly unaware that he ever had a baby sister. And he was never told why his mother became ill.

cathcart · 08/05/2007 21:31

he is an arse that is true, my dh once had an online row with him about a kingfisher, oddie knew he was wrong but wouldn't back down. I rofl. Feel sorry for Kate whatserface when they present springwatch together

Blandmum · 08/05/2007 21:32

I'm gonna regret asking this, but how can you have an argument over a kingfisher????

cathcart · 08/05/2007 21:32

They need to get out more! PMSL!

cathcart · 08/05/2007 21:37

Well, its not very interesting as you ask but here goes - on that springwatch programme Oddie stated that you can only see kingfishers in such and such a place in the uk. My dh is a bit of a nature boy and at the time was working in edinburgh as a gardener and he had seen one flying near a canal or river somewhere. Soooo (asleep yet?) he got on the BBC website and posted in the aftershow forum which was inviting q's to oddie himself. Oddie argued the toss and la de da de da... I sticking with dh's story!

DumbledoresGirl · 08/05/2007 21:38

I don't know why this comes as a shock to some people. You can tell by watching the nature programmes he does (the live ones) that he can be extremely rude to some people. When they linked Springwatch to CBeebies and one of the CBeebies made a typical child comment to something, Bill Oddie was openly scathing towards him and he was only a puppet!

I did find him interesting though on Who do you think you are? One of the few celebs featured with a genuinely interesting story to discover.

Blandmum · 08/05/2007 21:39

LOLOL!

cathcart · 08/05/2007 21:39

I know MB - I couldn't even believe he was arsed to go on the forum about it.

Blandmum · 08/05/2007 21:39

I thought that Stephen Fry's was very interesting and so sad.

As was David Badiel's

KathyMCMLXXII · 08/05/2007 21:39

ROFL @ 'Bill Oddie was openly scathing towards him and he was only a puppet!'

Blandmum · 08/05/2007 21:41

I just spat my coffee out over that!

and now I'm coughing uncontrolably!

the thigs you learn on MN eh?

DumbledoresGirl · 08/05/2007 21:42

Yes, they were interesting too MB, but often the tale they unravel is of a more general nature than particular to the individual, whereas Oddie's research revealed loads of stuff he had not known about his own mother. Maybe it was because he was unraveeling stuff of such immediate concern to himself that it was interesting, I don't know, but I sort of warmed to him then (but not on the nature watch programmes when he is rude to co-presenters, even if they are only fluffy puppets).

NotanOtter · 08/05/2007 21:42

I used to sell him and his family parking permits whilst working for LBCamden(they live in Hampstead) - wife and daughter are both actresses and really lovely - him miserable - I did once get a papercut whilst writing on his permit so bled on it which was quite satisfying though painful (should add I have no infectious diseases).

pointydog · 08/05/2007 21:51

dg

cathcart · 08/05/2007 22:02

dh has asked me to point out that he is not a 'twitcher' just someone who loves nature and who hates bl'oddie and, as a guitarist himself, had he watched him trying to play we may well have needed a new tv!
