Slightly copying the old thread's title...

Come on Corrie writers! Get a grip! This is the thread to moan about the utter tosh that we end up watching, or in some cases to praise the actors because some of them are actually pretty good! Let's discuss!

So another non wedding in Corrie and Chesney was wearing bright red lipstick Confused
Poor Jemma. What a scumbag leading her on. She is going to get with Chesney eventually- it's been obvious from the start.

SymphonyofShadows · 13/01/2018 08:22

I think Bethany is working somewhere with the other girl. The new friendship and the way she was dressed when Craig arrive suggest it. Corrie isn't very subtle lately.

Of course Gemma's bloke is a wrong 'un. They couldn't possibly do anything that wasn't a complete cliche could they?

Clawdy · 13/01/2018 09:27

The Gemma thing doesn't make sense really. Friends bet a good looking wealthy man can't get a plain, gullible girl to go out with him?

Akire · 13/01/2018 10:23

I imagined she turned up at Party and friends had a joke about trailer trash and bet him he couldn’t get laid or something. Imagine once they have done deed and he’s taken pics then he wins the bet. Still at least into Chez arms.

Still don’t get why Carla happy live in flat smelling of chip fat and tea when she laid rent for brother to get flat in VC. Surely she could live with him or on own. Still have Roy close enough for support.
Love how people with complex illness can move across country and change doctors and teams and not a problem at all to wait months and months to be seen.

welsh26 · 13/01/2018 10:55

I'm sure Gemma was involved in a "grab a grot" story line before. If it wasn't her it was a character very similar to her.

IIRC Eastenders did it with 'Hev' when she was first in it, but it wasnt dragged out so long.

eddiemairswife · 13/01/2018 12:30

I wonder what Eva has done with her cat.

MyBeloved · 13/01/2018 13:48

"Pigging", smeaton?

Do you think this is what Eva is constantly referring to?!

southeastdweller · 13/01/2018 14:11

When I was at uni, I knew a couple of girls who used to play this ‘pull the pig’ game. Funnily enough they weren’t exactly the most attractive themselves...

Clawdy · 13/01/2018 14:37

Never heard of that game, Smeaton , it sounds horrendous but it does make more sense now you've explained the storyline. And yes, how weird that we've all been discussing Eva's annoying use of the word "pigging" !!

Grunkalunka · 13/01/2018 15:20

I always thought Eva saying "piggin" was an invention of the writers so that she didn't say a swear word. Like nice girls when I was young sayin "sugar" instead of "sh*te".

In the comedy, Porridge, the writers made up fake "swear" words for Fletcher such as "naffin" as you would expect a con to swear but couldn't back then on the BBC. Or the way people say "feck" instead of "f*ck" to avoid swearing and having to confess it.

I thought the "piggin" was a nod to one of those.

Grunkalunka · 13/01/2018 15:23

eddiemair the writers have probably forgotten about the cat - now you will have alerted them. Expect a mention in 6 weeks time.

ShowerGel9 · 13/01/2018 15:40

It's like when the actors always saye

"Flamin!" Or "She's a cow!"

Clawdy · 13/01/2018 16:14

Yes, it's a sort of replacement for swear words. Years ago there was a comedy series called The Dustbin Men ( one of the actors was Graham Haberfield who played Jerry Booth in Corrie ages ago). The bin men said "piggin" and "bog off" all the time, and the writer said it was because swear words weren't allowed in comedy shows at the time. I wonder if the Corrie scriptwriters have been watching old comedies! Perhaps Tyrone will start saying "Bog off!"

GrooovyLass · 13/01/2018 18:46

Steve McDonald says flipping all the time when irl the character would be saying fucking. There's a fab outtake where he's shouting at Karen and accidentally screams fucking at her instead of flipping!

I'm caught up now and I'm wondering if Bethany and Sam are doing some sort of outreach work, trying to get young girls off the streets or something. Sam said her mum knows what she does and is fine with it.

millimat · 13/01/2018 19:49

I'd like it if that's what bethany was doing groovy but why was she all dressed up?

GrooovyLass · 13/01/2018 20:10

I was thinking to fit in with street girls, although that doesn't explain the lingerie does it. Nope, I'm stumped again!

AnneEyhtMeyer · 13/01/2018 21:02

The whole non-swearing policy seems a bit ridiculous when they are allowed to show murders.

cloudyweewee · 13/01/2018 21:14

I remember being shocked when Mike Baldwin called Ernest Bishop's murderers 'bastards' Shock

GrooovyLass · 13/01/2018 21:20

I'm sure that there's a swear quota - they're allowed so many of each word per month or something. Jack Duckworth used to say bloody every now and then.

millimat · 13/01/2018 21:35

I'm thinking pole dancing for Bethany.

cloudyweewee · 13/01/2018 21:58

I loved Jack and Percy.

honeyroar · 14/01/2018 00:05

Never have your wedding reception in a pub, nobody ever gets there with a marriage in tact, it's always a case of "well we might as well eat the sandwiches anyway!"

Bethany is doing some exotic dancing, I reckon. Not sure why though. She's seemed pretty together lately.

Come on Eileen! Get this jigsaw done so we can get rid of Phelan.

Sidsreadingdiary · 14/01/2018 11:04

I think you are right honey. It is a real shame that they are doing that story with Bethany after everything she has gone through. I know that her past experiences may make her more vulnerable and likely to make poor decisions, but I would love to see a bright, kind and decent young woman allowed to get an education and a positive future.
