Did anyone catch this this morning? Same old format and a bit boring. It is long overdue a makeover.

However, I love it Blush

Jools There's always an update on the website and Facebook page. Even if they are going, as they film in the summer they rarely have everything in place to actually have gone by the time the episode shown in January, so the updates are usually fairly boring.

ooh thanks! I didn't know that.
I had a friend years ago who emigrated to aus. she had never even been there!
Her DH wasn't keen but he went.
They are now divorced, he lives in UK and she lives in NZ

Butterymuffin · 01/02/2018 11:11

Today's family are the kind that frustrates me. Lovely home, happy in their jobs, close family nearby, but she feels it's all gone a bit daily-grind with small children. That won't go away in a different country! However, the kids will get older and it won't always be like this.

The Merthyr Tydfil couple.
They only wanted to escape the welsh weather.why didn’t they move to Kent?
Did it look like they would make the move?

Butterymuffin · 01/02/2018 20:12

Website updates page says:

The Jones family update
Claire has worked hard studying for further qualifications and remains hopeful they can make the move to Australia.

Jason is no longer against the prospect of moving down under, with the early sunsets being his only minor draw back. Rio would love to take the plunge...providing he can take his Manchester United curtains with him! And Rowan being Rowan, is still saying he is in favour of the opposite but really couldn't care less.

Unfortunately, the family's beloved fur baby dog, Harry, has passed away after 11 wonderful years together.

AnneWiddecombesHandbag · 01/02/2018 20:41

I got the feeling the littlest boy wasn't happy about it. Not that he couldn't care less. His little face was so sad and his body language as we saw them walk away was really despondent.

LillianGish · 01/02/2018 21:38

I find the obsession with having a better house slightly bizarre - they could probably have a better house by moving to a cheaper part of the U.K. - they need to ask themselves why they wouldn’t consider that. The idea that friends from home will be coming round to admire it makes me laugh. Then they go to say Melbourne - and look at houses in a suburb which is and hour from the centre - so not actually in Melbourne at all. They might be working shorter hours in the job they are allegedly being offered, but fail to factor in the huge commute. Or the Mum, who has not been working in the U.K., suddenly gets enthusiastic about going back to work (to get closer to affording the out-of-budget house they’ve been shown) with no mention of how they might sort out childcare. And no one ever factors in the cost of flights back to the U.K. when looking at cost of living. Can’t get my head round it at all. I’m willing to bet a large proportion of people on the programme aren’t really considering moving, but just fancy an all-expenses-paid trip to Oz. Must admit I love it too though Blush

Anyone watching today?

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 02/02/2018 11:07

Me. This lot are bugging the shit out of me already.

Scorbus · 02/02/2018 11:08

The names are a bit different

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 02/02/2018 11:10

I may be missing something but why move to the other side of the planet to live in an “accepting community “
Surely you would move to anywhere in the UK that has a latge gay community

Scorbus · 02/02/2018 11:13

Brighton for example but house prices are insane there

Backingvocals · 02/02/2018 11:16

I just hate the idea of the kids leaving their extended family and in this case their dad. Never normally watch as I find it too sad.

Butterymuffin · 02/02/2018 11:20

Watching. At least they've said they wouldn't move if one of the kids was dead against. Kids will feel pressured to go along with things though.
Yes, there would be more accepting places surely that aren't just in the SE? Manchester, Hebden Bridge, other northern cities?

BrownBiscuitBarrel · 02/02/2018 11:27

So far I'm liking this family - they are very smiley.

Butterymuffin · 02/02/2018 11:30

They're a nice family. I just hope they stick to their promise to honour the kids' preferences.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 02/02/2018 11:38

For once very sensible friends and family

Butterymuffin · 02/02/2018 11:45

Website update says they've moved! Settling in well and much better work life balance. Hope it continues to go well. The kids were great.

CaptainHammer · 02/02/2018 11:45

I liked this family and it’s nice to see one where they’ve actually made the move!

NancyDonahue · 06/02/2018 11:19

Revisited has started today. I remember this couple and liked them. I wish they'd get on with the update and not show so much of the old footage 😩

Reality bites. This episodes really demonstrates some of the struggles of achieving the dream.

NancyDonahue · 06/02/2018 11:46

Such a lovely couple. There's an update on facebook. I actually had a little weep at this one 😭

OP posts:
SandysMam · 06/02/2018 11:49

I just missed the end! What happened? Did they go or stay?

LIZS · 06/02/2018 11:59

They went but because he needed to sponsor her for the visa they were forced to live separately while he established himself.

Terpsichore · 06/02/2018 12:55

I actually watched the episode with the Donlons, having seen the discussion on here - the family from Yorkshire who lived in a beautiful house with a tennis court and seemed incredibly materially comfortable.

I’m just baffled as to how on earth they could even contemplate leaving the grandmother behind after she'd moved in with them to her own purpose-built separate annexe (and the dad was her only child). And their two late teen/early 20's children who patently did not want to emigrate to NZ......I genuinely didn’t see what they'd have in NZ that they couldn’t have in the UK. As if going off-road biking was unique to NZ - pretty sure you can do that in Yorkshire too Hmm

This is such a frustrating programme sometimes!
