Guess who's back?

I am yet to watch the interviews although I did read what you have all said about the interviews. I will try an catch up eventually.

My brother and his girlfriend are visiting today, hopefully they don't plan on staying and I will be able to watch the final with you all. But if I don't, at least I will have a thread to come and read tomorrow.

See you all at 9!

That is absolutely staggering and I find the investment even more bizarre now.
I did wonder how she was turning over so much, so that's my question answered!
I think it might be a good idea to have a look at Facebook before making investments, as they are obviously completely out of touch with what's out there.
I remember a pitch on Dragons Den when the dragons were all bowled over by a woman who made teddy bears from babies' outgrown clothes. They thought it was fabulous and were fighting each other to invest. There are at least three people local tool me who have been doing that for years.
I am just waiting for someone to pitch glitter glasses or carved plaques!

Choccywoccyhooha · 18/12/2017 18:43

Ugh, it was a dull final even by the poor standard of the last few poor years. The only thing that kept me going was singing "un, dos, très, un pasito palante Maria," at Ricky Martin to annoy DH.

Figgygal · 18/12/2017 19:36

I've not even bothered watch it yet

Idreamofalandrover · 18/12/2017 20:21

cathf I know, the investment choices get more questionable with every year. Company check valued her business at 4k last year.

I know it's just a trashy entertainment show, but I don't see why they can't make it more about real businesses doing something interesting or original rather than something totally unoriginal that isn't even doing well.

I think the guy was woorse than Sarah, he hadnt even mentioned cyber security until the other guy mentioned it then all of a sudden he was an expert.

Tools the lot of them.

JAPAB · 18/12/2017 20:49

I don't think I can name an online floral delivery service off the top of my head, even though apparantly everyone can.

ShirleyPhallus · 18/12/2017 20:51

Japab not even interflora?

QuiteUnfitBit · 18/12/2017 20:58

How has the internet affected Interflora's business? I just Google now, whereas years ago, I'd use Interflora, because there were so few options. Surely, if you want to send a present, you'd just Google, rather than be tied to a particular brand. And I'd not choose sweets.

Maybe the future of her business is for corporate gifting? But in my experience, companies don't really give little treats to their staff any more.

Akire · 18/12/2017 21:01

Thing is if you do google interflora it will bring up top 20 then you can look them - faint at prices and go cheaper.

Idreamofalandrover · 18/12/2017 21:09

I don't understand why anyone uses interflora. It's so expensive. You could do a whole weeks Tesco shop onlime and stick in a better bunch of flowers for the same price.

I've hated receiving them because I know how expensive they are. £3 Lidl rose pot is £30!

StripySocksAndDocs · 18/12/2017 21:20

I used interflora once. At 6am I realised a family member's birthday was that day and it was a very significant one. I was abroad.

Interflora could be arranged at 6am online and made it look like I'd thought about it before hand. Cost me though!!

Butterandsugar · 18/12/2017 21:26

Does anyone know why Jade, Sajan and Bushra weren't part of the final?

GoingRogue · 18/12/2017 22:32

WTF. I thought Sarah's company was shite...then I just stumbled upon a business sending personalised potatoes as gifts?! Actual potatoes. The world has gawn mad I tell thee.

www.textapotato.com/faqs

TheAntiBoop · 18/12/2017 22:34

Weren't they on dragons den?

QuiteUnfitBit · 18/12/2017 22:39

Eh? Is that potato business some sort of money laundering operation?

GoingRogue · 18/12/2017 22:40

TheAntiBoop yeah, just seen that on their site. The cheapest potato gift is just under £10. Why?! Just why?

Originalfoogirl · 20/12/2017 00:11

Does anyone know why Jade, Sajan and Bushra weren't part of the final?

It’s quite common for folk not to come back. Plus, they don’t need all 16.

Akire · 20/12/2017 00:18

If you have already had a lot of time off work, or started a new job. Guess you can’t always take 3 days off plus traveling for final.

Akire · 20/12/2017 00:20

Still can’t belive they both won. One dead boring we have no idea if it’s working in IT the other so dull and middle Of the road and hundreds companies doing the same. I could set one up tomorrow buy load of eBay and call in sweets in the suburbs! It be unique and everything no hand finished bow for me, no. It be a feather. What could possible fail

cathf · 20/12/2017 07:19

Akure, you are right.
Usually when someone says what you have just said, I immediately jump on them and say it's not as easy as that, you need accreditation, marketing, branding etc etc etc
But in this case, it looks as if Sarah has nine of these things either and is just the same kind of cottage business that appears on my Facebook page every day.
As I have said before, although it sounds impressive to be stocked in Harrods etc, the reality is she will shift a tiny amount of units there, and I would imagine some of the other customers listed would just be one-offs, although I don't know.
I have met a few people like Sarah in my days of doing good festivals - tiny businesses by the owner (although they usually call themselves CEO/founder) strut around as if they have founded Cadbury's!
She definitely can talk the talk, but after seven years, she either cannot walk the walk or the business has no legs anyway.

DeepanKrispanEven · 20/12/2017 07:40

What irritates me is that, every year, Sugar spends the entire series telling everyone how crap they are, then suddenly by the final they've transformed into commercial geniuses. Do the programme makers really think we don't see through that?

olliegarchy99 · 20/12/2017 07:50

I would unfavouyrably compare this rubbish to dragons' den - can you imagine if either of these two 'entrepreneurs' rolled up and asked the dragons for £250K for a 50% share of their 'company'. They would be laughed out of the door and into the lift sharpish.
I like watching dragons den - which is much more realistic.

Peregrina · 20/12/2017 09:02

I thought much the same - Dragons Den but with silly tasks added. The whole thing has lost its way - since he's no longer offering a job, he no longer needs an Apprentice. Hence he no longer needs to fire them.

StripySocksAndDocs · 20/12/2017 09:06

I'd have thought more of him if he's fired both of them.

JAPAB · 20/12/2017 14:36

Before this fizzles out, could someone explain Bushra's joke to me? It was something like 'we had a Captain Gourmet but Donald Trump took him away.' I don't get what this is meant to be a reference to?

Aridane · 20/12/2017 14:47

Indeed - even Bushra struggled with that one on You're Fired!
