German subtitled 10 parter released today. Have just watched the first 3 episodes and am hooked. Cross between Stranger Things, Les Revenant and Twin Peaks. I was mildly irritated by the wilful oddness of it at first but episode 3 is very very good and unlike anything I have ever seen before.

Please people watch, I’m dying to discuss!!

Does anybody find it easier to focus and read the subtitles if they don't speak a word of the language. My spanish is good so when watching something in spanish my reading 'drifts' and then I only realise I wasn't reading when I missed something. I don't speak ANY German so I found it easier to stay focused on the subtitles.

The dubbers aren't acting the lines, they just have an idea what's being said and why so the quality of acting that you hear in the voice is really poor in the dubbed language. Drives me crazy. I was just watching 'la casa de papel', mostly in spanish but the American English dubbing was shit

My French isn't good enough to follow a programme with no subtitles at all, but is good enough that I sometimes read the subtitles and think "Hang on, that's not what they just said."

Just finished watching, loved it and also can't wait for series 2!

Flomper: it’s a few weeks since I watched it. Peter is married to Charlotte who is the policewoman. His father is Helge. We don’t know who his mother is. He was sat waiting in the bunker in 2019 (I don’t know why, perhaps looking for something to do with his father?) when the worm hole opened and Mads (dead from 1986) came through it. He called Tronte and told him to come over because Mads is/was his son.

This is one of the best things I’ve ever watched. It set me off on a mission re time travel and have been reading around the ‘Liverpool time slips’ which is interesting!

I too feel like this is one of the best things I've watched in ages.

The way the time travel is set up though is if you analyse it a closed loop. Everything that has happened already is set to happen again. Young Jonas is now on the path to becoming Old Jonas who sends his younger self into the future. It's cyclical

The writing is so sharp I hope it stays that way.

Re Peter Doppler, it occurred to me that he may not really be Helges son and that perhaps at some point Helge saved him from Noah, as we do know that Helge breaks free of Noah eventually, but, Noah may have known that would happen as Noah seems omniscient

Also with Helge trying and failing to kill his 80s self and Ulrich also failing to kill 50s Helge it all becomes predetermined.

E.g. The what if you could kill Hitler ethical question, becomes what if you could kill Helge?

Answer you can't because in order for him to exist in 2019 he already survived the attempt

To add - that's what makes Michael/Mikkel so tragic

He would have known as a boy that Jonas Kahnwalds father killed himself - then he becomes Jonas Kahnwalds father and knows he must kill himself.

His suicide note is date and time stamped for after his younger self has gone back to 1986 so the course of events can't change.

Hanna is a horrible person and maybe he never loved her, but he had to marry her for Jonas to exist
