Can't see a new thread??

OP posts:
bonfireheart · 22/10/2017 02:19

Brian looked like a bad holiday rep!

MrsJamin · 22/10/2017 07:48

I didn't like. Debbie's rumba, I thought she was too stiff, lack of fluid movement and hip action. Joe's paso was fab, my favourite dance of the night. Voted for johnnie, Gemma and Susan. AB was good but really forgettable. She's on at the end of prevent the x factor audience from leaving strictly, it's just for ratings I think, but biases the audience vote.

BalloonSlayer · 22/10/2017 08:39

Brian looked like a bad holiday rep!

He was supposed to! They were doing a hi-de-hi take off.

Anyone else think they had originally planned to do their jive to the hi-de-hi theme tune and changed to Tom Jones because it's slower?

MissEliza · 22/10/2017 08:51

Place marking

ppeatfruit · 22/10/2017 10:15

Marking my space. Iam catching up with last week's shows. Thanks for the new thread hepzibah

NumberEightyOne · 22/10/2017 10:17

My favourite dance was Anton and Ruth's. It was hilarious.

MrsJayy · 22/10/2017 10:33

I loved Anton and ruth he was hilarious 😀

DuckOffAutocorrectYouShiv · 22/10/2017 11:11

Watching it on catch up.

Love Claudia in bold red lipstick (too much highlighter though). I really don’t get the judges walk on bit. They all look heinous. WTF was Darcy doing?! It looked like a shop mannequin doing a drunken paso Confused

Davood - just not exciting. His moves were a bit numb for me. It didn’t look sharp.

Mollie - Looked lovely. No idea if it was technically good but she looked comfortable and confident. Ballroom is definitely more her speed.

Simon - HORRIBLE outfits. Slow. Zero swivel. No synchronicity. Time to go home.

Debbie - Bless her with the Paul thing. Some people have been harsh about her appearing to enjoy herself so soon after husband’s death but who are we to judge or deny a grieving person a bit of pleasure? What business is it of ours? As for the rumba, it was a bit clunky for me, but i’m really not keen on it as a genre anyway so maybe I’m biased. The judges loved it but I don’t see it. As for Craig’s pantomime bit... [cringe].

Brian - Like Simon, he’s a total dad dancer but unlike Simon, he appears to love it and give it real personality. So he gets more points for me.

Susan - I love her. Very Stampy but infectious joy.

The boyband one - I fast forwarded, it was boring.

Ruth - Forgot half her steps. Hilariously bad. It looked like they were improvising.

Gemma - Another one I like. Weird ballady Cher song. She looked a bit like she wanted it over though. Not much soul in it.

Joe - I like the campy Paso. I thought he looked great. Loved the choreography too. Fab.

Alexandra - Gorka must be chuffed to bits to have been partnered with her.

Jonnie - He is astonishingly fit. Lol at the smoulder at the camera thing, he had the right camera but dopey whatsherface is pointing him a different one. Love Oti too. They make a good partnership.

HOW did Ruth get the same no of points as Susan? She forgot half her bloody steps?!

I think it’ll be a Ruth Simon dance off.

bonfireheart · 22/10/2017 11:27

I only watch on YouTube without all the yakking, VTs, the judges or Tess, so missed the Hi De Hi bit. Still naff and pretty sure he will be going. Simon, Ruth & Anton have somewhat of a fanbase but not sure about Brian.

Redcrayons · 22/10/2017 11:52

Featherstep - thanks for the info, regulated tempo music makes sense. I was thinking about how much I prefer it when they use traditional music for tango and paso on Strictly which led me to consider how they get on in competition if they suddenly spring a 'rock tango' on them. I suppose a good pro could dance a waltz to the hokey-Kokey if it was the right tempo.

CeeBeeBee · 22/10/2017 12:01

Just looked at the Radio Times poll on who should leave. The obvious bottom 4 have got the most votes bit in one place behind them is Alexandra. Why do people not like her? If they hadn't previously seen her in X Factor, would they feel the same? Anyway, I reckon even if she ends up in a dance off, she's good enough to be saved but the judges.

awaynboilyurheid · 22/10/2017 12:20

Oh please let it be Ruth that goes but I doubt it due to Anton hamming it up She really is deluded "We are climbing up the leaderboard" You really are not!! She is super smug with really no reason as she is awful.
Loved Joe's paso so pleased Shirley recognised it and gave it a ten.
johny and Oti always so watchable, couldnt see much difference in Gorka and Alexandra's dance to last week seemed very similar. Loved karen;s choreography but Simon times up as he is on a par with Ruth.
i really missed Bruno as Craig was allowed to drone on and on a bit with criticisms far too long for me.

CeeBeeBee · 22/10/2017 12:34

I hadn't realised that Bruno was one of bananarama's dancers. I used to be a fan on the 80s and that's him on the WOW cover!

SauvignonBlanche · 22/10/2017 12:45

I didn't miss Bruno at all.

Would like to see Simon go tonight.

TheLastPeg · 22/10/2017 13:06

CeeBeeBee Bruno was once on Would I lie to you and his truth/lie was about causing a fire whilst cooking pasta for bananarama. I think I remember him being quite funny actually.

RhiannonOHara · 22/10/2017 13:26

Some DREADFUL outfits last night1

Dancing:
Davood. Meh.
Mollie was boring. She and AJ are dull together. I feel like they give them 'old-lady' music and routines. Don't know why.
Simon looked a fright. Somewhat entertaining though.
Debbie was massively overmarked. No real hip action; too balletic and pulled-up. And NO ONE mentioned the massive stumble in her rumba walk at the end; anyone else would have got massacred for that.
Brian was a bit shit after a good start.
Susan was charming, although not her best.
Aston was show-offy.
Ruth. I just loved Anton's outfit Grin Great song too.
Gemma was OK but overpraised IMO.
Joe had good shaping and nice pulled-up core and forward hips. Surprisingly good.
Alexandra was quite good, I thought. Will accept the experts' opinion on her technical flaws but it was entertaining and I liked the routine and the music.
Jonnie was overpraised IMO. Boring routine, which is surprising for Oti, who's usually excellent.

Craig was hilarious. I love him anyway but I love him more now.

Davood and Brian or Simon in the dance-off and Brian/Simon will go.

ppeatfruit · 22/10/2017 13:28

Yes I remember that on Would I Lie To You (I love that show, it's such a good laugh) . I think he won too. I may be wrong Halloween Grin

soupforbrains · 22/10/2017 15:35

CeeBeeBee I’ve never watched X-Factor but I don’t like Alexandra. I appreciate that she’s good at the dancing but as a person there’s something that makes me just think ‘Ugh not her again’ when I see her. I think it’s because she’s quite vacuous and vapid? Or at least that’s how she comes across. (As an aside despite the fact I don’t particularly like her i don’t agree with the people who skated her for shedding a few tears the other week. Grief is different for everyone and if she was doing it for the sob story either she’d be doing it every week or she’d be waiting for a week when she’s in trouble) that said, I don’t think she should go this week.

I would love a Ruth and Simon dance off, but Ruth has an enormous following as does Anton so I can’t see it. I’d like Simon to go this week.

CeeBeeBee · 22/10/2017 15:36

Never seen "Would I lie to you" but I can see him being a laugh. I may well youtube some old Bananta videos to see whether I can spot him!

CeeBeeBee · 22/10/2017 15:41

Thanks soup. It's just that she seems to have a lot of negative comments under every article I've read in strictly. With the Gorka/ Gemma rumours circulating in the tabloids, she's being painted as a jealous diva. I think the tabloids hate her.

I agree that Simin should go. He is not improving and doesn't really have any sparkle to make him entertaining. Love Susan and I think she's this year's Ed Balls.

ShirleyPhallus · 22/10/2017 15:42

I met Alexandra Burke at an event a few years ago and she was a right berk then. As unlikeable in real life as she comes across on TV

TheDrsDocMartens · 22/10/2017 15:49

I agree on so much better without Bruno. I think Craig has to balance him out too much normally so he can’t be himself.

ppeatfruit · 22/10/2017 16:20

I was working out why Craig gets booed so much ; it's because he BEGINS his criticisms negatively and ends nicely , whereas Darcey starts with something lovely to say. THEN she puts the knife in. The audience don't listen to the end of the judgements.

AmericanPastoral · 22/10/2017 16:26

Shirley How was Alexandra unpleasant?

I thought Craig's impersonation of Bruno was one of the highlights of the show.

Davood - I thought he was quite heavy on his feet.

Mollie - lovely routine. The judges seemed to be making a point of their "chemistry "??

Simon - dreadful. How could Shirley say he and Karen were synchronised when it was painfully obvious he was often out of time? Have had enough of his excuses. "It's only the 4th time I've danced" etc. We don't hear Ruth and Susan trotting out this excuse. Loved Darcey and Craig pulling him up about the tendon comment - "What about your other foot?" Hopefully he will be in the bottom 2 against whoever and Darcey and Craig will get rid of him.

Debbie - okay, she was a bit stumbly but I don't care as I quite liked the routine considering I normally hate rumba - it seemed faster than usual - and I love their relationship.

Brian - not great but I've warmed to him as he's trying and does have rhythm.

Susan - not great dancing but I enjoyed the routine.
Aston - thought he was overpraised but always good to watch and I love Janette.

Ruth - not great - by either Ruth or Anton - but hilarious and memorable.

Gemma - looked good to me and Aljaz is so lovely.

Joe - always forget him. Good routine but he quickly fades from my memory.

Alexandra - great to watch. I can see what people mean about the seeming false modesty but it's awful to hear of people having a go at her for being tearful when her mother died in August at the age of 53.
Jonnie - good but I never find his routines memorable. When we're trying to remember who is still to dance we always forget him (and Joe).

So, Simon (and Tim Lovejoy - saying Simon brought "entertainment" to the show????) to go - please, please, please.

ppeatfruit · 22/10/2017 16:40

Yes it does seem that Shirley is blind to some faults (Simon is always clumsyish) and too heavy on some others. I thought that they should be neutral.
