Fizz first please. And everyone related to her.

Actually he's going to have get Andy to start digging out an extension to fit them all in.

OP posts:
Wormulonian · 01/11/2017 18:48

Has Johnny's MS been forgotten about? I thought it might have flared up given all the stress the family has been under.

The "strong" women that are brought in are always brought low by the Street (men) just like anyone who aspires to go to Uni - look at Carla, Erica (stood up by Kev FGS), Eileen as discussed upthread, Liz melts if a bloke twinkles at her etc.

Wishfulmakeupping · 01/11/2017 18:59

It's utter garbage ATM hated the Andy as prisoner storyline didn't not think it could get worse until he killed him and Vinnie- no payoff for the viewer whatsoever after months of investing in that :(
Complete waste of talent- Ian Kelsey absolutely love him and storyline potential - how would Andy cope after being freed.
Corrie is the only soap I watch and I think I'll be stopping altogether now :(
Didn't think the producer could get any worse than the last one and remember being quite hopeful about Kate Oates but not anymore complete rubbish 👎

scrabbler3 · 01/11/2017 19:08

Yes. Watching the odd 1986 episode on ITV2 makes me realise how lacking in depth the female characters are these days by comparison.

Bringing back the likes of Julie Goodyear won't do any good if the current crop of writers are penning the lines.

I can't imagine that any of today's couples will be as iconic as Jack and Vera, Stan and Hilda etc. And I say that as someone who likes Sally and Tim together and thinks that both are good actors.

Clawdy · 01/11/2017 20:30

Sadly the new producer is even worse than the previous one. It now needs a complete, drastic overhaul.

Clawdy · 01/11/2017 20:52

And this Gary - Nicola - Sarah storyline is getting rather like the boring Aidan - Eva - Maria triangle. And we know, like that one, it's going to end badly.

LineysRun · 01/11/2017 21:15

Gary could make a three ring circus boring by his mere presence.

eddiemairswife · 01/11/2017 21:20

At one time Gary went to live at Izzie's so that he could help her with Jake. He now seems to have forgotten that he has a son, let alone the need for speech therapy.

Is Nicola planning to move from the flat she has just bought?

theliverpoolone · 01/11/2017 21:28

I've stuck to my word since last Friday pushed me over the edge, and haven't watched since - and judging by the posts above, I'm not regretting it so far.....I actually feel more relaxed, not bringing all that relentless grimness and frustration into my life.

BreconBeBuggered · 01/11/2017 22:32

Not sure what I've missed, but what's the story with Bethany suddenly deciding to stay in Milan?

ellenanora5 · 01/11/2017 22:39

I was wondering about Bethany too, has she left the show for good, I got to like her and she was great with the grooming storyline, she's been doing a great job.

redshoeblueshoe · 01/11/2017 22:44

Brecon - I think that's what we are all saying on here. Stories jump around, so you can't follow them. Then there is stuff that is totally shit or stupid. Good characters that have just descended into rubbish ones.

LineysRun · 01/11/2017 22:51

I feel like there's a missing episode - again.

Eastie77 · 02/11/2017 06:48

I haven’t watched for weeks now and just keep up with storylines via this thread and articles in the press.

It’s such a shame to see how the show has descended into pantomime farce and totally agree that when you watch old episodes the difference in the quality of writing and character development is remarkable. Corrie was created to depict the lives of ordinary people in an ordinary Northern town and for me it was always the antidote to the relentlessly grim Eastenders.

Currently, the completely unrealistic/dramatic storylines, number of superfluous characters (at least half the cast could be axed with no impact at all on current plots and they would not be missed) and lack of continuity is ridiculous. Characters that once had real depth have either completely changed or have to work with storylines that make no sense. How is it possible that David - one of the better actors - was driven to the depths of despair, suicide and hatred following his wife’s murder but months later is happily dating her killers mum?!

But the final straw for me was making personality free zone Toyah landlady at the Rovers. What a joke.

SilenceMeansWhatAreTheyUpTo · 02/11/2017 09:20

Not sure about the new-look David who seems to have sprouted a neatly-trimmed beard overnight. Had to do a double-take - thought it was Billy at first!

redshoeblueshoe · 02/11/2017 09:32

Eastie - I totally agree, and why alter Toyah's personality ? Old Toyah wouldn't have given Peter the time of day, now she wants a child with him - seriously, the guy who cheats on every single woman he dates. Also it used to be family entertainment, I watched this from when I was very young, whereas some of the more recent scenes are not suitable for children.

Wishfulmakeupping · 02/11/2017 10:16

Agree Eastie bad enough putting Toyah with Peter -does not work no chemistry whatsoever.
I quite like Toyah interesting backstory and Leanne is one of the better characters and actors so liked the idea of Toyah coming back but to put her in the Rovers instead of Liz and Steve 🤔 I can't understand why Steve wouldn't have sold off the taxi firm and flat to buy out Michelle but that's one In along list of things that simply don't make sense with Corrie.
I can't actually remember when it was last good now

Wormulonian · 02/11/2017 10:17

Would Seb really have an impression of Anna pushing him because Phelan told him so when he was coming around after the op? Phelan wouldn't have been allowed into the room never mind having magical hypnotic powers!

Poor Joseph stuck with Chesney after living with loving grandparents - like Simon who was wrenched from loving, rich grandparents to live with alcoholic Peter and a revolving door of girlfriends.

Sinead worried about the cost of an extra mouth to feed - Child benefit and child tax credits - no one on the Street seems to have heard of benefits yet again! Anna mentioned them last week when someone had told Seb's mum there were some benefits she could get. Who knew???

SilenceMeansWhatAreTheyUpTo · 02/11/2017 10:32

....and I agree with Eastie. The writers are terribly lazy, they just don't bother to check details. How things actually happen. Since when have election results been announced on the same day as the voting? And if Tyrone had spun me that yarn about his uncle dying and leaving him money, I'd be asking which solicitor was able to sort out probate and get the cash to him fast enough to buy a van on the same day! And why on earth isn't the news of the missing pensioner from the care home making the front page of the Weatherfield Gazette? Hmm

SilenceMeansWhatAreTheyUpTo · 02/11/2017 10:41

...cross-posted with Wormulonian, but those are indeed other examples of unrealistic scenarios. I supposed Phelan could have got into the ITU at a push by pretending he was a relative, but all the stuff about failure to claim benefits and children being passed from pillar to post doesn't make sense. And now it seems as though Todd is going to take Summer with him when he disappears off the scene....

eddiemairswife · 02/11/2017 11:03

Another thing was Seb being against any treatment for HIV, then within minutes of seeing the twins he changed his mind. No time to think about it at all. The whole scene was ridiculous. It was if the director realised the episode was a couple of minutes short and decided to put in a filler.

redshoeblueshoe · 02/11/2017 11:20

It feels like its been written by teenagers on work experience. There would be no reason for Anna to have been in the solicitors office, and if she had wanted to shove Seb off the ladder wouldn't she have just pushed the ladder. But no Phelan hid the earring and lo and behold the police have found it. And her motive ? When she has been emotional and financially helping Seb. And there is never any CCTV, there is where I live.
AND - there is always plenty of places to park !

Sillysausage123 · 02/11/2017 14:15

How on earth would Anna be able to get the twins from foster care just like that?
She isn't related to them so why would the foster family just hand the twins over to Anna for a trip to the hospital to see Seb?

MrsScrubbingbrush · 02/11/2017 14:58

So Brian just goes into Bessie Street school & has a word with the headteacher and miracle of miracles there's a place for Joseph.

Beats all the form filling etc that everyone else has to go through to get their child into primary school!

eddiemairswife · 02/11/2017 15:17

Exactly. As someone said above, it is as if the script is written by teenagers, with no knowledge of how school applications or social services work.
And what is the point of introducing another young child into the cast? There are too many of the poor little things - neglected while their parents are at the pub, having affairs, out at work. No-one takes or fetches them from school unless they are teenagers like Amy, Simon or Faye.

CarrieBradshawsScrunchie · 02/11/2017 19:23

Wishful, agreed, Toyah and Peter as a couple just gives me the rage! He just wouldn’t fancy her in a million years. It also annoys me how alike Seb and Faye look - it’s actually ridiculous.
