Fizz first please. And everyone related to her.

Actually he's going to have get Andy to start digging out an extension to fit them all in.

Oh that was sad, Hilda at Stan's grave with the last bunch of flowers, telling him about her forthcoming holiday. I think the episodes are around 1986 or so. Ivy, Brian, a very young Nick or Nicky as they called him then, are in it, Stan has died, Mike Baldwin is getting married to Susan Barlow ( (Adam's mum) tomorrow!

scrabbler3 · 24/10/2017 22:17

I don't think that Phelan is worried about Daniel now. His concern was that he'd gain access to Vinnie and unearth the truth about the scam, but he failed to do that. I think that underestimating Daniel is unwise though.

mapie · 24/10/2017 23:57

Phelan needs a bigger cellar.

SmileSunshine · 25/10/2017 00:12

JustDanceAddict there's lots of examples of characters disappearing over night on corrie. Grin

  • The actor who played Zeedan's Grandfather was sacked on the spot in RL after the actor posted some very racist comments online and was out of the show immediately.
  • Actor who played Lloyd was also sacked immediately when the actor had a bad addiction problem in RL and needed treatment.
  • Deirdre, Betty and Blanche's characters died on the show sometime (weeks/months) after they had passed away in RL.
SergeantFredColon · 25/10/2017 08:26

Tommy Duckworth was sacked too after some stupid YouTube videos he made and just disappeared off the show.

eddiemairswife · 25/10/2017 17:07

Just watched one of the old episodes on ITV3. What a difference; people having proper chats, bit of humour from Jack and Vera; no bed-hopping, no baddies eavesdropping, no-one in hospital with tubes up their nose, no police. Has life changed so much in the past 30+ years?

AnneEyhtMeyer · 25/10/2017 17:27

Watching some old stuff now and it is the general chatting that is the big difference, you're right eddie.

I don't think the writers can actually write dialogue now.

Lovely to see Alf!

I do hope ITV notes the fan comments on the way they are moving the show. Plot-driven is all very well and good, but not at the expense of character and dialogue. The way they write for Mary (pre MIL syndrome) shows glimmers, but really the last bits where there was just good chatting was Steve and Lloyd (to my recollection).

Smile Craig Charles was suspended, then returned after rehab

ToEarlyForDecorations · 25/10/2017 18:26

Craig Charles wanted time off to film another series of Red Dwarf. They had let him off once to do a series then he wanted to do another series. That's when he pretty much chose Red Dwarf over Corrie.

(Watch him in conversation with John Bishop, he comments on that among other things.)

I don't think the writers can actually write dialogue now.

I agree. They’ve got obsessed with the “drama” and keeping the drama up ^^there when actually that’s fine once or twice a year but not every fucking episode!! We don’t need and eastenders style “duff duff” moment in every episode. Especially when it’s on a gazillion times a week.

NoCryLilSoftSoft · 25/10/2017 21:54

And also they seem to have lost how to do relationships. They have made every character become their character but little thought for how those characters interact with each other so when they throw a couple together or a new friendship it doesn’t work and we are all sitting Confused because of course the people have zip all in common and there was no gradual getting to know each other etc. It’s all just a street of characters bumping into each other on a daily basis rather than actually engaging in a natural way.

SergeantFredColon · 25/10/2017 22:18

I'm really noticing the lack of 'duff duff' moments in the old episodes. They just seem to end when the 25 mins is up and could be just people talking int Rovers or whatever.

cakietea · 25/10/2017 22:37

And the old episodes - the wedding tonight in one episode of Susan Barlow and Mike Baldwin - this would have taken about four episodes these days!

SergeantFredColon · 25/10/2017 22:40

And nothing went wrong! They just got married!

theliverpoolone · 25/10/2017 22:52

How did Sally know there was anything to report to social services? I thought Anna hadn't told anyone - and even Nicola said tonight she hadn't known Seb's home circumstances Confused.

What was Anna thinking, going to see Phelan??

BeaLola · 26/10/2017 00:26

Can î ask what was the small metal like thing aphelion picked up after Anna left his office ?

I do hope we are not going to have a Steve and Tracey rehash. I have been watching one or two episodes a week whilst "multi tasking" just to keep up in case it improves. Finding it ridiculous. Faye so totally against Anna despite her saying she didn't call SS. Seb's turn about in attitude to Anna. The whole Phelan dungeon thing. Absolutely no nuance or subtlety.

In the most recent classic corrie (ITV3) Ken and Petr (different actor to now) had a long scene just talking. Peter explained at length how he and Susan felt unwanted by Ken when they were sent to Scotland to live with their GP's (neither have scottish accents though) and Ken listened and didn't say much - it felt more heartfelt and real than all the shouting and drama llama stuff atm

eddiemairswife · 26/10/2017 09:45

I actually enjoyed the chat between Steve and Tracey. Perhaps, because they are such well-established characters, it felt perfectly normal and natural; and no histrionics!

runningtogetskinny · 26/10/2017 09:53

Just catching up with last night, for God’s sake will someone point out that the ambulance crew who attended to Seb’s Mum would have a duty to call Social Services as there were children present?! Surely someone on the street would know that???
