Who wouldn't lose it with Lilly, thought it served her right when Stacey chased her.

DameSquashalot · 25/09/2017 23:51

Willmott-Brown looks like Paul Whitehouse.

That's exactly what DH said.

burblish · 25/09/2017 23:52

Carmel just can't help herself, can she - her level of meddling, interfering and shoving herself into other people's business is just ridiculous. I really cannot stand that character. Imagine if she was your mother-in-law - you'd be doing a 20 stretch!

youarenotkiddingme · 26/09/2017 06:44

Carmel is definitely a Mner!

She clearly lives in the world where you should never lose your shit with your kids when they are rude!

The80sweregreat · 26/09/2017 07:42

My Mil was far, far worse than Carmel and still is.
( i wouldnt have minded Carmel as my mil to be honest!!)

Lauren's ' i can be ready in 5' was typical soap reaction to going away for longer than a day or two. - when i had little ones it would take half a day at least to round up all the clothes and toys and general stuff and a family sized car too to get me there, but they just leave with a buggy and a bag on the train!

The80sweregreat · 26/09/2017 08:46

RE: Phil wanting to be Devil child's adopted dad.

Hearing in court:

' So, Mr Mitchell, it says here that your a ex criminal alcoholic in remission, with a history of violence. You've been married three times , been shot twice and have a son who has also been in prison for murder. Also an arsonist. Why do think you would make a good dad?'
yeah , but i love Sharon and Dennis as if he were my own, its fammilly innit' ?
I think you will make a great dad. As long as he doesnt grow up to be like Ben, you'll be fine.
Much as i love Phil, do you think any of this would matter?

Thymeout · 26/09/2017 09:56

Picking up some points from the last thread...

There's a strong financial motive in buying up the square, not just personal revenge - tho' that's the reason minor players like Max are involved. Regeneration is BIG in London boroughs like Walford. 2 mins from the tube? Knock the whole thing down and re-build with poncey million pound flats. A few council ones round the back with a separate entrance to get planning permission. Perhaps a gated low-rise development of fake Victorian cottages round the square and a 'restored' gastro-pub to replace the Vic. It'll be Starbucks and Costa instead of the caff and the chippy. Borough Market-style foodie stalls at the weekend.

If Jay is connected to W-B, perhaps this explains the mystery phone call Phil made before handing the car lot site over to him, instead of Ben.

But I did enjoy Lauren saying, 'I feel as if he's still in the room with me' and the camera focusing on Abi's suitcase, presumably containing the ashes.

The80sweregreat · 26/09/2017 10:02

Hmm, trouble is, the WB's will need staff to run all these new shiny places - half the square work or own the businesses they want! but i take your point that this is happening all round the Eastend and the prices for property is eye watering. I can see why they want to do it.

Abi with those ashes- she really loved him didnt she? if she goes off to see mum, wont they start noticing she is pregnant? how will she deal with all that and the questions that will pose?

The80sweregreat · 26/09/2017 10:12

ps, i know that they can hire any staff' but it could be a big cull coming for all the oldies ( claiming benefits, unemployed and forced out ) and the new blood will be under WB's and Weyland's thumbs!

Thymeout · 26/09/2017 15:01

I don't think it will happen. Too disruptive of the time-warp Eastenders represents. Carmel and Denise, against all probability, will get wind of it through their lowly jobs with the council. And Clark Kent will change sides. Maybe Sadiq Khan will step in. Didn't Boris once briefly appear in an episode?

As for businesses, who owns the launderette now? The chippie's up for sale. Beale's could go under if it's not insured. Ben could get an offer he can't refuse. Dot, the Spams and Karen etc are council tenants. Private landlords will be happy to sell or could be compulsorily purchased.

It's rumoured that most of the little shops along the main road in Catford are now owned by an Eastern European businessman, in anticipation of redevelopment.

Abi - yes. Jack said she was looking pale. Morning sickness?

The80sweregreat · 26/09/2017 15:25

Boris did appear in the Vic with Peggy Mitchell. not sure why or what he achieved by being there , but he showed up one day for a pint.

I can't see Jacob Rees-mogg having a cameo somehow - Philip Hammond might want to give Ian a bit of financial advice ( he could ignore)
There a lot of empty buildings now - the launderette is boarded up i suppose, Beales is a shell, the Arches could do with a makeover, the car lot has gone ( Jay will sell it to Weyland and they did mention that land last night for flats) and the chippy is now owned by them and would make a good little coffee shop. WB has plans for the Cafe.
Maybe this is the shake up they all need though? what people want and all that. maybe Keanu would get a job out of it?

mrswhiplington · 26/09/2017 15:37

Why did Sharon say to Dennis that he couldn't have a curry, it would be too hot? There is more than one type of curry. Such a stupid statement.

I wonder if Abi watches Dragon's Den. There were two blokes on it the other night who, for a fee, will launch a deceased person's ashes into space. Can't think of a better place for Steven to end up.Grin

The80sweregreat · 26/09/2017 15:49

Did any of the Dragons sign this guy up?

mrswhiplington · 26/09/2017 16:21

The80s - Deborah Meaden made them an offer but they turned it down because she wanted a large percentage of the business. But they didn't try to get her to take a smaller share like they usually do and she really told them off. They missed out on a good Dragon there.

The80sweregreat · 26/09/2017 17:17

yes, sounds interesting though. i guess a lot of people would put it in their wills ' do this, rather than scatter or intern'.
i dont like heights, so not for me..

nancy75 · 26/09/2017 19:43

I really dislike Carmel, she is such a nosy busybody

The80sweregreat · 26/09/2017 19:49

Sausage looks like a young Leo Sayer.

woodhill · 26/09/2017 19:54

Surely if Kush has survived this long won't baby be ok?

Stacey is unbelievably rude to the consultant.

The80sweregreat · 26/09/2017 19:56

Lush is doing strictly , he has to be ok.

BlueButTrue · 26/09/2017 19:57

Sorry to pop on the thread randomly, but anyone else think Bernadette wants to try for another baby?! Shock

The80sweregreat · 26/09/2017 19:58

Blue, yes.

BlueButTrue · 26/09/2017 20:01

The80s I feel really sad for her, child loss is unimaginably hard and TTC again is often the only light in the darkness.

Obviously I get her age too

bleedingheart · 26/09/2017 20:59

Haven't posted in ages but recent events have riled me!
Hope I can have a little rant in here!

I really hate that they killed Steven off in such a rushed fashion. Why not let him be scared off by Max or Jane and leave Lauren feeling confused and Abi pregnant still? That character had lots of potential to return.

Clearly Adam Woodyatt thinks the storyline is crap too as he is phoning it in.
Would Ian AND Kathy AND Ben really boycott the funeral? All of them have a past littered with major errors of judgement and/or lies. A man in his 20s dies suddenly and no one except Abi turns up?
What about Wicksy?
Cindy Jnr?
Cindy's sister?
Nonsense.

Also, Max told Lauren that Steven only had 3(?) months after he said he'd been with him to the consultants. Has she mentioned that conversation? Or questioned his role in it? I missed some of Friday's episode.

They signposted that Wilmot Brown entrance with neon lights. So bored of that storyline. The Carters aren't thick. They would know Fi shouldn't be there day after day like some kind of spectre in the corner, clad in Jaeger's finest, talking in stage whispers to Max, and frowning at Linda.

Poor Bernadette! Both actresses have been excellent. I hope they have more scenes together. IRL Shirley would deffo say something about the bra straps. Come on Shirl! Do it for all of us!

Far too much is going on at the moment! Shooting storyline was rushed and unconvincing too.

NigellasGuest · 26/09/2017 21:34

Hahahaah @ "Happy Birthday Special Sausage"

Optimist1 · 26/09/2017 22:08

Love the idea of Shirl doing a bra intervention, bleeding ! If anyone can do it, Shirl can... Grin
