Janes leaving do was the Albert wasn't It?

iknowimcoming · 22/10/2017 16:19

I was just baffled by the inappropriateness of the surprise leaving do! Nearly died in a fire and leaving your husband with no real future plans? Surprise! Have some champagne! Errrrrrr Confused

50Sometimes · 22/10/2017 16:31

Stopped watching EE for a few weeks - found the whole Stacey hospital stuff annoying. More hospitals! If I want to watch Casualty I'll watch Casualty!

Tuned in during the week and was disappointed. The script awful: "Abi knows who the father is - she's not a tart!" The acting wooden and patchy. The storylines all continually creepy and dark. Is the fair chap looking for a job now an escort - saw him sitting next to a toilet with a drunk middle-aged woman. I couldn't bring myself to turn the sound up!

Only Jane driving away in the taxi did any real acting.

Intomyarms · 22/10/2017 16:41

I thought that too re Jane’s leaving do.

It must be quite hard for the actors. The soap is being ridiculed. Maybe it always was? I’ve watched it a long time and while it was always seen as dark and somewhat depressing g, it is now being sneered st. I don’t remember that being the case before.

50Sometimes · 22/10/2017 16:41

iknow, yes champagne party was a surprise! perhaps the most inappropriate surprise party ever!

More bonkers EE script.

Another one Lauren turning up with big pram (as someone commented earlier) and zero charm - yet gets her job back. again. I mean how many times has she resigned and come back to it? Very realistic. Though Josh did seemed to take a good look at her bigarse in leggings as she left.

50Sometimes · 22/10/2017 16:45

Jane actually did look genuinely surprised. Maybe the actress is actually surprised in real life to be at that particular scripted party, it was both bizarre and ghastly and as a mere viewer I had no idea what was going on!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 22/10/2017 16:51

At least it was at the Vic, Mick and Linda organising a "hastily leaving your husband without a reason" theme party.

youarenotkiddingme · 22/10/2017 16:52

Ben suggested meeting at Bic for passport and she said no - she agreed to Albert. So I guess Ian (in his not so wisdom!) decided to surprise her with a leaving do.

I'm sooooo glad someone finally decided to tell Kathy to stop forgetting she pretended to die and thinking she mum of the year.
But it was too much of a co incidence she suddenly connected James face to it being true for her too.
I mean - who in RL automatically assumes that?!

The80sweregreat · 22/10/2017 17:14

The actors can only work with whatever script they get , maybe they do not have a huge amount of time to learn the lines and plots, so they just go along with it ? They have had bad periods before when they lost viewers and it became bogged down, but they nearly always turn things around with new producers and writers. I think its looking up a bit lately, maybe once this revenge story has concluded it will be even more on track? Who knows.

dingdongdigeridoo · 22/10/2017 23:43

Yes, Wonder Woody definitely needs to join the team. He has the ability to turn around shit east end pubs.

I think everyone who comes out of a coma should get a surprise parry. Kathy needed a slap for moaning about being forced to fake her death. Gavin was the least meanacing bad guy ever.

50Sometimes · 23/10/2017 11:27

Possibly 80s. There is good acting at times. Abi. Jane. Mr Beale.
Plus a few others. But at the moment things seem very disconnected. The storyline lurches from one thing to another and the actors often look punch-drunk from it all! Maybe they have to "believe" their own character for it to work, and have the time to actually learn their lines properly. I saw the pub landlord Mick actually fluff a line at the corner of the bar when Linda was asking him to clean the windows - they obviously didn't bother to re-record it.

Perhaps its just one of those phases. I enjoyed it a couple of months ago and looked forward to it in the evening (to relax). But at the moment it just seems back to being grim, hapless and unconvincing. I especially find Stacey annoying - they'll drag that out forever. The same for Abi's baby. Who knows once thats over maybe things will pick up and we can have some grown up storylines !

The80sweregreat · 23/10/2017 11:40

I agree the ' goodbye to jane' was ridiculous and its obvious a lot of the actors were on holiday in the summer so many had to be written out. The willmott brown crew are unconvincing.

Stacey has had too much bad luck, i know all this happens in real life, but all to one person? Where is her mum too?
Ill stick with it though! Lol.

Redcrayons · 23/10/2017 13:18

Ian throwing a going away party for his wife who is leaving him, is not even the most unrealistic part of Max's revenge storyline. wish they would just end it.

The80sweregreat · 23/10/2017 13:55

I was hoping that the new guy might end the revenge story - however, i doubt he will as there is mileage in it , what with Ben now 'involved ' with creepy Luke and Kaff yet to know that James WB is back.
The Carters are now being asked for loads of money to keep the Vic , so that will drag on I guess and we have yet to see if Ian gets that phone call message and works out that Jane is being blackmailed and who is doing it all. There is still the Jay parentage 'mystery' and why Phil lied to him and if he will sell on the car lot land. So there is a lot going on to keep it going for a while. Carmel is supposed to be involved with Max ( well, she thinks its real) so i guess she will be dragged in on it all too and now Lauren is back working for Josh ( which is also completely unrealistic, but keeps things ticking over)

Walkerbean16 · 23/10/2017 14:47

Was it Gavin that left some flowers for Kathy outside the restaurant when Steven died? Or one of the WB lot?

The80sweregreat · 23/10/2017 15:02

Walker, it was WB who left the flowers.

mrswhiplington · 23/10/2017 15:08

If I had been Stacey I would have lobbed the cake that Carmel gave her straight back at her. I think she was very dignified, all things considered.Grin

Agree with everyone about Jane's "leaving party". Completely nonsensical. I have completely lost track of Max, Fi and Luke etc goings on. Become totally disinterested.

Only the appearance of Keanu cheers me up these days.Blush

The80sweregreat · 23/10/2017 15:19

Mrsw, join our KFC ( Keanu Fan Club) 😃

mrswhiplington · 23/10/2017 15:21

Consider me joined.Grin

Redcrayons · 23/10/2017 18:19

Where do I send my subs for the KFC?

The80sweregreat · 23/10/2017 18:25

red, i think we should have a mumsnet account and pay in a couple of pounds a month, then share it out for next christmas.
might run to a box of posh chocolates or some wine/ soft drinks!

Redcrayons · 23/10/2017 18:48

We'll hire him as an escort and he could come round to patiently listen to our tales of woe and do odd jobs round the house.

The80sweregreat · 23/10/2017 19:07

Ha ha! Much better idea. We can share him around.

nancy75 · 23/10/2017 20:16

Why don’t the muppets in the Vic hire their own surveyor? It’s not exactly rocket science to get a second opinion

nancy75 · 23/10/2017 20:17

Had Ian heard the phone message?
