The Apprentice - Are You That Hard?

Or am I soft?

I was watching the apprentice last night. At the end of it, Rory - who was a bit of a berk admittedly - was pretty much told he was a useless waste of space, a big failure, past bankcruptcy referred to.

I know he chose to go on the programme. But if I was told so publicly I was a fat zero I think all my confidence would be gone forever and the rest of my life would be in tatters.

Am I soft or am I missing something?

Rory was a twat. was glad he was fired.

IMO if you go on one of these programmes then you're setting yourself up for public humilliation. this isn't the first series, or the first programme of its type. people are well aware what they're letting themselves in for.

zippitippitoes · 05/04/2007 17:27

ifti was however incredibly lazy which he also admitted after all he may be missing his son but he was also there so might as well have participated before retiring home..

pointydog · 05/04/2007 17:29

Rory was a prat, you are right. But at the end of it I just felt I was looking at a ruined man and I didn't like it.

Ifti! He was an odd one. I thought that was a load of cobblers about missing his family.

You're soft pointy . People like Rory bounce back and go through life with all sorts of daft business ideas some of which might work, but most of which won't - very thick-skinned. He got another pasting on the post-show analysis on BBC2, and took it very well. I think Sir Alan was just being realistic about the other guy. He said he sympathised but business is business and all that.

CocoLoco · 05/04/2007 17:30

I thought they were really mean to Rory. Although he did manage the team spectacularly badly. He did look crushed by the experience, but I'm sure he'll bounce back

fannyannie · 05/04/2007 17:31

I think he was crushed because his "wonderful" idea was a pile of p* and he realised he should have listened to the rest of his team - they still had 2 1/2hrs when they got the call they could* have gone with the dog blanket.

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 05/04/2007 17:32

am afraid sir Alan was right - business is business and although there has to be some compassion he didn't lift a finger.

pointydog · 05/04/2007 17:32

I'm glad he'll bounce back.

I'm peed off at being soft. I'm going to toughen up.

rory is hoping to bring a zeppellin to the uk..not an airship which seems like another potential disaster

saadia · 05/04/2007 17:38

I also thought Ifti was making excuses - it was easier to say he was missing his family than saying that he had no ideas.

I did also feel sorry for Rory, but he seemed to have megalamaniac tendencies - the arrogance was breathtaking - telling them to take off jackets and ties was out of order.

And Tre, well he really gets on my nerves. That weird lip-biting when he though he might get fired was very strange.

Ifti used the missing family excuse to hide his inadequacies and idleness. He claimed that he would be a billionaire. Well excuse me, to achieve that, how much of his family does he think he will see? Also, I question his business credentials because he displayed the charisma, drive and tenacity of a dead ant. He is a business director but I would not be surprised if this was courtesy of his family, rather than down to his own efforts. Good riddance as far as I am concerned.

Rory was a control freak with no leadership skills. He could not inspire a dog to beg even if he was holding a juicy steak. Sir Alan spoke to him with more compassion than he deserved considering how he spoke and treated his team members.

Last year, I thought that Syed was a cantankerous toad but he is a pussycat compared to Tre. Tre is an obnoxious, arrogant, aggressive bully and there is no way that he will win this.

jalopy · 10/04/2007 11:36

Agree about Ifti's unconvincing excuse to bow out of the show. He lost his nerve.

Can you imagine being married to Tre? What a bully.

As an aside, does anyone else think that the quantum phycisist looks like Julie Burchill?

speedymama · 10/04/2007 11:39

Yes, she does. Did you see her grasps of maths in the first episode? Oh dear! To be fair to her though, she did forget to account for the frothing.

jalopy · 10/04/2007 11:42

Fancy not calculating the froth factor. She'll never live that one down.

themoon66 · 10/04/2007 12:22

I thought she was Julie Birchill when I saw her in the first episode.
