Ahhh mushi!! I remember him. He was a lovely boy. He did so well for himself.

MissEliza · 01/09/2017 15:52

I think the interviews with Rani and Mourad about their journey from Syria were important. It needs to be rammed home that this is happening to real people. Sadly they are actually the lucky ones. They're safe and well and in environment where people are caring for them.

randomer · 01/09/2017 15:54

Would teachers interrogate non refugees on why they had their pet put to sleep /why their mum had left the family home /why they had chips for tea every night.......

Randomer if it was something that would effect the child's well being and performance at school, they should.

purpleme12 · 01/09/2017 17:18

I agree with misseliza. I don't think they were interrogating either. And I think it does bring home that it happens to real people

MissEliza · 01/09/2017 17:48

There's probably an aspect of personal curiousity too. I appreciated the staff being aware of the negative reactions Muslim students may face as a result of the Manchester bomb. It seems like a very nurturing school

Spudlet · 01/09/2017 18:02

I agree with MissEliza. I think it's great that teachers are ready to have these conversations now. Nobody asked me after my parents split up, and nobody picked up on what a prize dick my dad was before that - I kind of think someone might now? I hope teachers are properly supported through (I know, fat chance most likelySad) as it must add to the pressure they're under.

randomer · 01/09/2017 18:29

I would never ask probing personal problems in front of other kids.

yikesanotherbooboo · 01/09/2017 20:04

Waffly I agree that little passage was depressing ; nice children trotting out their parents predjudices, that is why

The teachers have to bring difficult issues in to the open

MissEliza · 01/09/2017 23:58

Yikes I've heard my own dcs coming out with that crap about benefits, which they've obviously picked up from friends. It's scary how prevalent those attitudes are.

Yes, we do.

Balled my eyes out watching this. Heart warming.

randomer · 03/09/2017 15:58

In front of their peers?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/09/2017 22:47

I was a bit shocked that Rani had to sit next to his bully while he was told off!

Jack and Rani were amazing, and Jack's mum was lovely too.

The Head dealt with the van incident spot on.

Hepzibar · 07/09/2017 21:09

Someone's job to get someone's children up for school. How sad.

Whatslovegottodo · 07/09/2017 21:48

Last weeks was heart warming with Rani and his friendship with Jack,
This episode has me in tears.
All these complex issues and sad things facing our young people.
Sad

ASauvingnonADay · 07/09/2017 22:06

This had me in tears again too!

BackieJerkhart · 07/09/2017 22:46

Someone's job to get someone's children up for school. How sad.

That's what I thought too.

Kodie is very clearly depressed! I hope this is known to her Gp and being addressed. It didn't seem to be suggested during the programme.

expatinscotland · 07/09/2017 22:53

What do you do with a child like Mia, though? And the mum has to go to work.

expatinscotland · 07/09/2017 22:55

Mia's mum is about to become a 32-year-old grandmother.

purpleme12 · 07/09/2017 23:27

Yes I'm not sure what to do with someone like Mia either, although to be fair not sure what to do about all of them.

I couldn't believe there was a person getting them up and bringing them either! Why won't Mia go to school of it's got so bad the mum has had community service? Doesn't she care?

But you don't have to be depressed to self harm

BackieJerkhart · 07/09/2017 23:30

purpleme it wasnt the self harming that Indicated she was depressed.

BackieJerkhart · 07/09/2017 23:32

Wrt the getting them up out of bed to go to school, what do they do if the child refuses to get up or gets up and dawdles or stalls and there are two others sitting in the car being made late for school?

Stripyhoglets · 07/09/2017 23:53

Assuming you've never faced a child who won't go to school - or you'd know why someone has that job.

BackieJerkhart · 08/09/2017 00:08

Who Is that to stripy?
